View Full Version : Problem with a campaign mission - is there a guide/walkthrough?

All right, so I'm playing a "pro-US/rebel" campaign and I've now reached the mission where an Indian carrier group needs to be escorted.

Tried the FFG version first, but I truly hate the frigate and its crappy ASW performance. As predicted, I failed. I usually have better luck with the helo, so I tried that instead. Sure enough, I managed to survive and with the subs sunk, I just waited for the carrier group to sail through the search area and expected the mission to end when they were safely through. But no...

I've enabled show truth to verify that there really are no threats left.
It's as if the mission is broken in some way.

Running DW 1.04 with the LWAMI 3.09 mod installed.

Well frigate is better then helo in this missions. Because frigate=2*helo.
Frigate is good ASW platform even without the helos, but it is the most demanding one (IMHO). Especially it has low stealth (compared to the sub). But at 3kts it is pretty silent too, and its TA works like charm, and onboard buoys are usefull too.
But sure its strength lies in the helos.

IIRC I did play it with LW 3.08 and it worked ok. Mission ends when group reaches the circle.

In this mission, the frigate only has one helo available. And the helo is only useful as a buoy dropper. I wish I could link its dipping sonar to a screen on the frigate. THAT would make it awesome!

Ok, then something is definitely broken. They're now 50 nm past the southern edge of the circle.

I let it run on 16x time for a few hours yesterday, and at the end of that, one of the Godavari and the Kashin had collided and sunk, after the entire carrier group had started going around in circles, presumably at the end of a programmed track.

The only thing that seems to be wrong is that an Indian Helix remains in the circle. I'm going to try to lure him out using a fake manual contact, promoted to link, far outside the circle.

I forget if this mission is the one that has a couple of Kilos hiding. If it was I just steamed ahead of the Cargo ships and pinged the crap out of them and fired snapshots. Not a mission where being quiet was advantageous.

In this mission, there are a few Chinese subs, a combination of 877EKM and Han, with some randomness thrown in (I've seen two and three subs at a time). And they're not hiding, because I know pretty well where they are (thanks to the links) right from the start. I just improve on the solutions using MAD and dipping sonar, with a couple of sonobuoys thrown in. But they start out as neutral, so I can't kill them until they shoot at me (which they do).

Problem is that when the 2-3 subs are sunk (eliminating all the threats), the mission doesn't end, not even when the carrier group has passed through the circle and out the other side.

Maybe I'll have to give the frigate a go again. :(

No luck with the frigate either. All subs killed, got a radio message saying that intel reports only three subs (killed three) in the area. I steam on through the search circle and the carrier group follows.

One Godavari frigate went off to the side, before it entered the circle, for some reason, but the rest of the ships are through by a fair margin. Yet the mission is still "incomplete".

Again, I've used "show truth" to make sure there aren't any nasty little things hiding...

Is there a way to edit a "captain's log" file to get me past this mission?

Not any way I know of. It does not only contain which you missions have succeeded, but also what ships are sunk for the rest of the campaign.

Ok, problem solved.

The mission wasn't broken, just poorly designed, or the mod messed it up somehow. Not sure which.

I turned on "show truth" from the start, blasted the subs to pieces right away, and steamed on through. That way, the carrier group never got split up nor launched any helos, so all units neatly stayed together until they reached the goal circle to the south. Mission completed!

Actually, the "TNT campaign unlocker" is still out there. (It's a user log from a completed campaign) I don't know how useful it is, though.
