Hey all.. hoping you can shed some light on homing torpedoes. I saw these new things available and thought 'ah neat, I'll take a couple and try these out'. So I'm out on patrol and see 2 destroyers on the radar.. great stuff.. I line up and fire a couple of these things off.. one hits the lead destroyer and the other starts gunning it. My 'homing' torpedo goes on its merry way behind him.. not once changing course.. not even a little. Am I missing something with these things?
Much appreciated

Welcome to Subsim! These cuties are cute but they have a top speed of 12 knots. A destroyer that sees one is gone. The torpedo will never catch up. I also notice that if the torpedo's path takes it in front of the target, you have to be a lot closer than if the torpedo is shot behind the target. But then if the target is going faster than 12 knots... It's always a dilemma. Such is the fun of cuties.

1. Cuties are short range - they don't range far from home before dying. They can go for a good two or three minutes though.
2. Not very sensitive. You'll have to pretty much line up the Cuties like a standard torpedo, otherwise it won't lock on. Really, I just use them like that, the homing feature is kind of like insurance against evasive maneuvers.
They're difficult but fun to use, always a pleasure to see that stubby little thing flying along underwater
