Since when were submarines of WWII clean as a whistle ? no telltale smoke left when they operate (in game) on the surface ?
see RL pictures here above..
can someone mod this ? for the U-boot add on, german side ?
I was told that TMO fixed this but all I need is someone to tell me how to add it to any sub so I can fix my IJN subs...

Hang on with that smoke! It wasn't normal, from the photo books I've been working on the captions state this is an anomaly and subs blowing smoke were on their way to get repairs.

OK but I need evidence of that : a bibliography would help ;)
so they didn't smoke... ? I guess it would make sense in a way, but even warships smoked ?

ruben you got pm / what time is it your time ?

Flank speed on new subs on speed trials smoked a bit, otherwise generating smoke was a cause for concern and repair.

In FOTRS all subs got smoke but the smoke on FOTRS-Subs is very small.
Should i use the same settings on your subs ?

Not sure if this applies to all engines, but I do know that on aircraft, and automobile engine, as well as Diesel locomotives, when running above a specific percentage of power (usually above 75%) engines run in a full rich state. The extra fuel is not there for combustion, but in fact for cooling of the piston crown, and cylinder. This results in unburned fuel going through the exhaust system, which due to the heat of the system, incompletely burns on its way out, causing on some systems a black sooty stream. A sub going at full or flank would smoke like a son of a gun. Just watch a diesle train when it starts out. A plume of black smoke will exit the pipe. If the engine continued running at that starting rpm the black smoke would continue.
In Run silent run deep there is a description of the smoke pouring out of the four exhaust outlets as the boat moved forward at flank speed. (this is the novel mind you, not the movie).
When moving at flank or full, the sub was kicking up such a rukas behind it, stealth was no longer an issue so the smoke was really no matter.

yeah, most engines shouldnt have any smoke at all, because of the fuel levels. but still, there should be some evidence of someting leaving the exhaust ports

As the game tells us, the surface engines are diesel engines. In our 30-year-old diesel tracor there's almost no smoke at all. When starting a cold engine it gives a little puff of black smoke, but when it runs smoothly and warmer it lets out a very thin puff of blueish gray smoke. If you've watched tractor pulling you see a thick layer of smoke, which they call the "power-smoke". This applies only when RPMs are high enough. In subs this could apply in flank speeds, unless the exhaust is underwater, as diesel engines don't need air to keep running.

Exhaust diesel smoke coming out by AOTD Mad Max
spray effect when the exhaust gets submerged :

exhaust smoke (look above the gun) :

On the kaidai :

Now that's a diesel running ! thanks to AOTD Madmax.
See, it's a thin black smoke, I think it looks pretty realistic don't you ? at least now the ships seem alive.
