Hello all, here's one: I've been avoiding selecting the option to make diving to periscope my default action. I had a moment of weakness and did it. Now, oh my, I need to undo it. Where is this setting / flag or option for his fun option? :doh:
Flak Gunner: I'd love to fire him. About 1/2 the time he just sits there while one can reach out and touch the plane looking at us... (Even when set to short range engagement.) What's up with that? My blood pressure can't take it!! I want a sidearm so I can "fire" him! :damn:
Sys Crashes: I don't expect an answer - I'm just venting. I can't tell ya how many times in the crew screen (F7) I've gone to switch the crew from attack to cruise mode and clicking on the button kicks me out and kills the game. Gads, I spend half my game time these days saving, saving, saving, saving... sorry... started to regress.
Are there any fixes for accidentally hitting enter? 'Cause when I do, i get really mad and thump it a number of times till all the fish are in the sea and that's not productive. :D
Thanks gang.

While playing, hit 'Escape'. There is an option there to reset the default action.

F11 lets you shoot the gun yourself. Or get a guy with a decent Flak qualification and he'll be more accurate.
Sys Crashes: I don't expect an answer - I'm just venting. This is a known bug going back four years to the beginning of the game. The only solution is to do it yourself and not hit those buttons.

Use GWX. It's a much better experience and the torpedo 'Fire' function is redone so you have to hit Control+Enter to fire them, which renders accidental firing impossible.

1. When in a patol, hit <ESC>, then select Reset Options
2. Make sure that all the following are true:
On the <F7> Crew Screen, the green bar above the flak station is mostly full.
On your Watch Officer's Flak Guns menu, Fire at Will is selected, and Target Any Aircraft is selected. (or Target <the type of aircraft attacking you> is selected.)
The weather is not too bad to man guns. (If they have their oilskins on, they cannot shoot.)
You are not attempting to fire from a lower mounted AA gun while decks are awash.
3. I believe the various cruise mode buttons causing crashes is a stock bug. Don't use those buttons.
4. You can remap the torpedo firing command to another key, or you can disable the enter key. To disable the key, you need to edit the commands file. Do this only while in port. Assuming you are using the English menus, find the Ubisoft folder and open SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg\Commands_en.cfg with Notepad. Find the Entry:
[Cmd313]
Name=Fire_torpedo
Ctxt=1
Key0=0xD
and change the last of these lines to read
Key0=0x0

Thank you guys. Appreciate the path to sanity.
Too funny... I was so absorbed in other locations for options that I didn't catch the obvious!
Thanks for the tidbits!

About Flak Gunner who should be court martial, it is an old bug. According to "SilentHunterIII Community Manual":
Here are some methods players have reported to overcome the sleeping flak gunner bug:
Toggle between your flak station(s) and the bridge by pressing a key combination such as <F><F4><G><F4><T><F4>. The sleeping flak gunner(s) AI will wake up after this manual manning of the guns and your return to the bridge. Sometimes it's enough to man one gun and then switch back to the bridge to awaken all of the gunners. Sometimes you've to go through them all.
Man and fire the flak gun(s) at least for a couple of rounds and switch back to bridge. If you're in a real hurry, you may want to take down the planes yourself instead of dealing with this bug.
View the target aircraft through your binoculars and hit the SPACEBAR on your keyboard. This assigns the target to the flak gun crew.

OK, another question... because I just can't sleep until I know all these things!
When it says "Radio Message Received"... what exactly does that mean for me, or is this another "issue"?
And thanks for the tidbits gang. I tried using the binoculars to mark targets but that didn't work, but that's cool... jumping in and taking a shot definitely woke up the gunner... thanks all.

Press 'M' to view the radio messages. Most of them are for immersion only. Don't be surprised to see a message apparantly from your own sub! :woot:
