A very good idea indeed. I'll be sure to watch this thread from now on. Come on spill the secrets :woot:
By the way. For anyone interested in downloading and saving the videos above, I've found that keepvid.com (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/keepvid.com) is a great site for capturing youtube video. I find it nice to have the vids saved on disk as sometimes they will disappear from youtube after a copyright complaint arises or such. Wish I had saved that old Future Weapons on the Virginia class submarine before it disappeared...:damn:

Not long to go now before judging in the machinima fest. Where's the modern boats? Only got WWII U-boat entries so far and I'm sure there are some great modern boat movie makers out there looking for a chance to show of their wares. Entries close 5pm AEST March 1

I'm expecting to finalise the winners in about a week depending on how many reruns I need to sort out the judging. Prizes will be sent out to the winners after they have been announced. I'm also working on a certificate and sig for the winners.
Last call before judging starts!:woot:
Judging has commenced in the Machinima Festival (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=146850)and the Peoples Choice award poll is now open for voting. Voting closes on 10 March so check out the videos here: http://youtube.com/subsimmachfest and make your choice.
Vote and see who is leading the race for the most popular video.

I think I'm going to consolidate my post into my first post to prevent clutter.
LOBLO,
Not wanting to be picky - the Film entitled "Trafalgar Class Documentary in Nato War Exercises (runtime 60minutes)" v. good by the way.
The submarine isn't a trafalgar Class, it is HMS Warspite (from the first all UK built Nuke class as HMS Dreadnought has a US reactor) which was a Valiant Class submarine - the Valiant/Churchill class was the precursor to the Swiftsure and Trafalgar classes
Kaleun
Thanks for the heads up
added a couple of vids. One is a French language documentary of the Le Triomphant and the other is a 10 minute vid of a Ohio class Trident Missile launch.

The french documentary one was very interesting. 2 things caught my attention
the crew was authorized to drink wine during meals :woot:
the chief medical officer is required before going out to sea to be operated of the apendicitis (of course a 1 time operation). The reason being that in the past, one medical officer had apendicitis during an operational cruise, and had to be evacuated because he could not operate on himself. This required for a second ssbn to be put to sea to continue the "dissuation" since the first sub was going to surface.
Do other navies have a similar requirement for the medical officer ? :hmmm:
Do other navies have a similar requirement for the medical officer ? :hmmm:
Not that I've heard of, but you could probably ask the RL Submariner's in the RL Submariner's thread.
btw. I'm looking for any pictures/videos of the HMS Astute control room layout looks like if anyone has run across anything.
Added Futures Weapons Coverage of the USS Texas (Virginia Class Submarine) (runtime 15 minutes).
One commentary about the documentary above. What's with the Virginia's control room? There had to have been 30 people in there. Is that how most SSNs operate during battlestations: 20-30 people crammed into the control room with a little chaos thrown in as well?
Few minutes article about the Israeli Dolphine Sub.
Its in hebrew but it doesn't matter since its not informative in any way, no numbers or abilities are mentioned, its kind of "moral-boost" article.

They really need to make a movie about this:

Part 5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJhMK...eature=related
Done right, I think this would be the best sub movie evah!:yeah:
Looking for the english version of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4GBLb7oqcQ it looks similar to a previous National Geographics video however the personelle and scenes are distinct and appears to be a seperate video from other NG versions. Does anyone has an english version?
New Video added to the 1st post. This one an old Discovery Channel documentary "Extreme Machines" of the US SSBN, SSN force, as well as special operations and the HMS Churchil Falkland's war attack. Pretty good video. Runtime approximately 50minutes.
I've also included the full series of the an alteranative National Geographic of the Virginia Class Submarine. I think its Hebrew. Runtime 50minutes.
btw does anyone have any video of an actual running steam turbine? A civillian one would do. I'm just curious on how noisey, non-submarine steam turbines are and how they compare to gas turbines.

What is SubsimMachFest? It is our very own short film festival! Welcome to the second Annual Subsim Machinima Short Video Festival. Contenders for the awards will be posted on http://au.youtube.com/user/SubsimMachFest I'm looking for the best 7 minute machinima videos containing a submarine that you can create.
Being Subsim we need a theme for our vid fest and of course it is submarines. It doesn't matter if you don't use a sub sim to make your vid but in the 7 minutes you have to include at least one submarine whether it is simulated or otherwise.
So all you budding machinima makers, crank up your skills for a chance to win one of the following awards:
Best of the Fest
Best Comedy
Best Drama
Best Director
Best Cinematography
Peoples choice
The rules for entries are simple:
All entries must be received by 5pm AEST (Sydney, Australia) on 30 April 2010. Any entries received after this time will not be considered.
All entries must be less than 7 mins long and must contain a submarine, simulated or otherwise. Other than that I don’t care what games or tools you used to create your entry.
All entries should have ending credits which include the following text or voiceover: "Dive into the Web's #1 Submarine and Naval Resource: SUBSIM.com"
Entries can be mailed on digital media or made available to me to download. To notify me of your entry by PM or e-mail. PM me to obtain my e-mail address.
Individuals may submit as many entries as they wish
All entries being considered for an award will be posted by me on the SubsimMachFest (http://au.youtube.com/user/SubsimMachFest) youtube channel.
All entries must be your own work although using material from other sources is allowed as long as it is properly credited. I have no interest in holding the rights to the videos other than the right to post them on the SubsimMachFest site.
All content must comply with the posting rules for Subsim, so no porn, racial or political vilification or abuse of any sort will be considered valid.
This is my film festival and I am the judge so if you have any complaints about my judging talk to the hand cos it’s mine and the entries have to please me. :O:
As the judge I cannot enter the competition in any way shape or form.
Post here (http://subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=165411)if you are interested in taking part or know someone who would be. Any questions post ‘em here (http://subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=165411)also.

on part 2 of episode 2 and its been very technical for a regular TV documentary. It shows engagements between the British SSN and NATO convoys during a wargame. Incl. simulated harpoon attacks and evading an ASW helicopter.
EDIT: Oops I see LoBlo beat me to it and has it listed as a documentary on a Churchill class sub.

New video found. This one is a 50 minute video about the construction of the Seawolf submarine. Its kindof dated, but gives some nice glimpses of the SW control center. Lots of room when compared to the VA class.
