In the past few weeks I've read posts about SubSim members having difficulties with the full GWX3.0.exe on BtS-Mods.com and the MD5 being invalid.

After 590GB transferred in January alone I'm wondering if the issue is just with a few users or is there just not a whole lot of people reporting trouble with that file?

Just curious that's all. :-?

Can't answer to that, but...Jacksonville? Are we talking Mayport? If so that was my homeport on the old DD938. I always find it amazing when our little sections of life come into contact. I can't remember the name of the little sub shop, just off base, but is it still there? Delivered hot subs to the piers.

OK...that was completely OT but...SWC appears to be in my old stomping grounds.

Hi Russ

Was just as curious myself so I d/l from your server only to find the file was 100% a ok. (checked the MD5 hash).

I must admit it was my second attempt because on my first your server went down before my d/l had reached 50MB LOL

The only explanation I can think of is:

I d/l in one complete operation (start to finish).

It may be possible that some who use a download manager and grab the file in a few separate stages may be experiencing a loss of a few 'packets'.

If this is in fact the case then the fault lies with the downloasd manager and not the bts server.

Yesterday I tried to load the file for the ninth time [in hope this was corrected in the meantime] and got again the same wrong hash sum: ee96ed51e0082bd920e27e416c0aff30 --> Installation impossible.

Don't know what's going on... http://img116.exs.cx/img116/934/z0tdntknw.gif

Cheers,

P.s.: loaded in many different ways: different PCs/connections, diff. Browsers, with/without diff. DL managers...always the same result.

Well if everything goes according to plan the next carrier I go out to sea on will be either the Bush or some other CVN in Mayport, it's about a 45 minute drive north from where I'm at now (Middleburg) and I'm stationed on NAS Jacksonville - haven't been on NS Mayport yet but I hear they've got some decent fishing out by the jetties

Thanks for checking Jim, I was getting curious about all the stuff I was reading time and time again!

No prob Russ....the file on your server is fine as far as I'm concerned.

It's just a pity some folk are experiencing difficulties.

many thanks for this kind offer but it's not really that important...
Got already the splitted installer.

It is only for archiving purposes - to complete the picture, if you know what I mean... ;)

The weird thing is that many people are able to load it correctly but other are not; and they get always the same wrong md5 sum...

Thanks,

Just wanted to confirm that assessment. That's where I got mine, as I wanted the single download version. I loaded it onto my flash drive at the local library, then transfered it to my computer. Loaded right up, and I've been running it ever since with no problems, and with a bunch of third-party mods.:sunny:

I have down loaded 10 times.
Everyone of those not only check with the MD5,
but install fine and pass
file verification tests compaired to the original
files.

Unkonown to anyone but me,
there are keys coded into this file that allow me
to insure beyond a shadow of a doubt
if it is a good file.

Each and every test has passed ALL my specs.

I have contacted some people I know and can say this.
Some Service Providers get 'Upset'
with large down Loads.
And drop Packets by design.

The very fact that several people report the same 'wrong'
MD5 makes me wonder.

Who are your providers, time of download start,
State or Nation, Etc,..........

As has been said about me...better late than never. Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but just getting to the GWX 3.0 party. This thread was the only one I could find that addressed this in detail. Might save someone the headache I went through.

Had the same problem with the inconsistent MD5 checksums on the full GWX3.0.exe from the BtS-Mods.com site and found something interesting. I was getting the same incorrect checksum for it as others on the boards here even after downloading twice: ee96ed51e0082bd920e27e416c0aff30

So decided to try some other MD5 utilities to re-verify before giving up and downloading the separate bins. WinMD5Free 1.20 and MD5 Checker 2.31 both gave the incorrect checksum above.

BUT, when I tried with the Jonesoft MD5Mate (version 1.2.0) that the GWX team has previously recommended for their files, it came up with the correct checksum: d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e

Very odd. No idea how this can be. I'll leave it to guys smarter than I to solve. In any event, the full installer did install everything correctly despite the erroneous checksums from the other two MD5 utilities and is up and running. Thanks for the great site and the full installer.

I am one of the people who keeps getting the wrong MD5 with the JScones MD5mate.

I haven't tried the others.
I would like the file for archive.

Just a quick thing to throw out to people having the problem.

I had a nearly identical problem some time ago with downloading patches to World of Warcraft with everything coming up either corrupted or unable to be installed due to these kinds of issues.Any very large file caused problems.

The whole problem turned out to be one of my memory sticks was failing and causing problems with properly transfering the information as it went through.

Nothing pointed me to check the memory as the rest of the computer ran fine be it gaming or otherwise.

This may not be the case here but never hurts to do a memory diagnostic to make sure everything is as it should be.It only takes a little problem as I found to cause a big headache.

This is a good post. I can assure everyone that the full GWX.exe MD5 hash is NOT "d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e". This is the MD5 hash of an empty file!

If MD5Mate originally gave this hash then it's possible that it's not handling large files correctly (although it's been designed to work with files up to 4GB). Anyway, I'll d/l GWX.exe file and run some tests.

JScones

OK, just d/l the file, although it took a GOOD 20 minutes to go from "finished" to "really finished". Not sure why, but after I waited and waited, it completed. I'll come back to this later.

Anyway, the CORRECT MD5 hash is "ee96ed51e0082bd920e27e416c0aff30", exactly as MD5Mate shows below...

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/7351/md5mate.jpg (http://img15.imageshack.us/my.php?image=md5mate.jpg)

From looking at the hash provided by the GWX team, it appears that the GWX team simply provided an incorrect MD5 hash.

Now, going back to my first paragraph, if people are not waiting for the d/l to *completely* finish, then they will end up with a corrupt file. The d/l is not finished when the browser tells you it is; there are still many minutes before the file is completely and correctly written to disk. In this case, at least for me, it took a good 20 minutes for the file to be completely written. Performing an MD5 hash check before this time will ALWAYS result in the d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e hash.

Very weird.
I dled the file more than 10 times [in different ways, diff. browsers, diff. PCs, even unattended, so there was enough time for writing to HD], got always ee96ed51e0082bd920e27e416c0aff30. But when I tried to install it appears an error message of corrupted files. Memory is Ok [checked by 'memtest86']. :hmmm:

P.s.: the splitted installer works correctly for me...

Thanks, JScones. I'm now confident that the mystery of the different hash values for GWX 3.0 full is solved. Thank you for taking the time to verify.

But still I'm stumped. Still getting the incorrect d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e hash when checking with MD5mate, but the correct hash ee96ed51e0082bd920e27e416c0aff30 when checking with the the other 2 MD5 utilities. The fact that my download of GWX installed and appears to work fine leads me to believe that my download was good.

Additionally, MD5mate seems to act differently on this particular file (GWX 3.0 full). It gives its result almost instantaneously...far more quickly on this huge file than it does on smaller files. Uninstalled MD5mate, re-installed it and still got the same incorrect hash on my GWX 3.0 full.

On a hunch, had MD5mate check the only other honking huge file I have on disk, a 1.90 GB America's Army.exe. Sure enough, got the same d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e while the other two MD5 utilities gave it identical hashes of 11b7419f1bc44a48ca5eb99af69ae28e...

Any ideas? Running XP, 2 GB memory, plenty of hard disk space. Nothing exotic.

As far as GWX.exe is concerned, i get the same hash as you crawlmjk every single time i use MD5 i.e. the wrong one despite the fact that i downloaded the file quite properly and without interruption. I had no problems with the installation and/or with any corrupted files. Recently i made another installation of SH3+GWX3 using the .exe file. I run into no problems at all.
Like you i have NO idea why this is happening.

Cheers!
