Those ships are on the net from years! Something of new, please!

I have to agree with the sentiments posted earler in the 'Trento" thread by BBW - if you are going to release ships like this, you should actually work on them yourself instead of just releasing X1's poor quality clones.

Essentially, there are two problems with the series of ships you are releasing. First, they are models which have been built by another party; they apparently had permission from Ubisoft, and thus have a legal right to prevent copying of their work by unauthorized third parties (in this case, you). Even if it were not infringement of copyright law, it is considered unethical to copy someone else's work without permission; it is all the more worse that you now claim this work as your own (even if the original author [i.e. X1] is unpopular, this does not legitimize your own actions).

The second problem is that this ships look absolutely nothing like the warships which they supposedly represent. Kitbashing ships is OK, as long as the resulting model looks substantially like the RL ship which it intended to represent ingame. Simple clones are below the quality which I believe the Subsim community has come to expect, and these X1 ships are little more than clones. The "Canarias" you released was merely a Hipper class CA with three funnels; it bore absolutely no resemblence to the actual "Canarias" and neither X1 (originally) nor you (now) made any effort to rebuild the hull, superstructure, or any other part of the vessel so that it would actually resemble something different (I believe X1 intended this miserable clone to represent a County class CA). BBW has already pointed out the nearly complete lack of changes to the "Trento" (i.e. another simple Hipper clone), so I won't touch on that one any more.

I will complete the above discussion by noting that this model is far less accurate than you attempt to portray it. The funnels may appear OK at first glance, but when one looks closer, the first funnel (although it has the correct cap) has a straight main shaft; the second funnel is too wide and should be located after the aft mast. The rest of the ship is just a Dido class clone, with absolutely no changes at all; for example the superstructure is too long (actually, it is completely incorrect altogether, since it is just a Dido class superstructure poly for poly), and the bow isn't straight. The aft mast is completely wrong, the forward tripod is too small, all of the after superstructure is shaped incorrectly, etc, etc, etc.... Essentially, this is just X1's old Dido clone with new funnels replacing the Dido's - and those 'new' funnels are STILL the wrong ones for an Alberico da Barbiano class CL.:nope:

Bottom line; I'm not trying to unnecessarily put down someone's work; especially that of a new and inexperienced player. But I believe that what you are doing is unethical and likely illegal, and that you should stop (even if your victim is just X1). And at any rate, the junk you are stealing is not at all worth the effort anyway. Sorry.

:hmm: I wonder if the moderators should investigate this further - surely the distribution of commercial mods, even if they are X1's, is not something that Subsim would like to be seen to condone?

It's also now quite easy to do kitbashes with S3D. You could add a funnel from another model with ease, for example (literally copy and paste in 3d). That CL could get the crane in front of the 2d funnel easily.

All that without the least real 3d modeling skill.

2 minutes work in S3D on that model as a kit-bash:

A little closer for 60 seconds work, no?

Imagine spending 30 minutes!

no edit again.

obviously I didn't mess with the rigging, or even look too hard for a funnel, and reused the same mast. (Maya's funnel, click, copy, paste). Ditto with Kuma's aircraft cat. There are better masts, even some with cranes, I lacked the will (i've literally now spent more time typing about it than doing it).

Kitbashes, while not ideal compared to actually making the "real thing," are amazingly easy with S3D. Soon the zon will be as well. You can do the sim file stuff as well (arcs of fire for guns, etc). I've already bashed 3 Kaibokan, a decent Matsu DE, altered the Stewart DD to look like it did when captured by the IJN, and have numerous others not quite ready for prime time.

Anyone with a hankering for kitbashing ships like that should really give S3D a go. Adding parts from other ships can get texture intensive, that's the only downside. Doesn't SH3 not have the occlusion map? If that is the case the single major kitbash headache for SH4 is not a problem, too.

Jeez, I thought there was something about those M-classes that looked a bit too much like V&Ws.

If these are X1's ships being released by you as your work, you are doing almost exactly what we got so mad at X1 for. Do you wish to be lumped together with X1 as pirates?:nope:

All right, this mod apparently comes from copyrighted material used with no permission, and that is against subsim rules. Even if the copyright author is the infamous X1, we here at subsim behave according to certain rules and have a pride in making them be respected for all and everyone.

I'm closing this thread and will make some private messaging on the matter.

Thanks
