View Full Version : Deck Cargo Mod-Need WWII Vehicles

Hi guys. Over the weekend I committed to adding some changes in the deck cargo for the Merchant Fleet Mod, as well as the new ships themselves. I successfully created a new unit and assigned it to a cargo ship. Although I am still learning, the possibilities for diverse cargoes to ogle (and blow sky-high) could be pretty substantial. Below I have posted some ship models (and a shot of an Empire Freighter with a new cabover truck unit I whipped up).

I am still new at modeling vehicles, so any 3d models of WWII equipment would be greatly appreciated. PDF files and screenshots of WWII military transport, armor, and trains would also be most welcome. Anything you could provide would be welcome. In particular, I would like the types of equipment that would have been manufactured under lend-lease in the USA or Canada for export to GB, Russia, and other Allied countries:

-Tanks
-Aircraft
-Locomotives
-Railroad Cars
-Trucks
-Armored Vehicles
-Artillery

I promise to credit anyone whose work is included.

Thanks.

I think you could use models from other WWII games - Blitzkrieg for example. They are simple, there are plenty free mods with new ones and they can be easily converted into obj format.

Well Sh3 already has airplane models.

Im sure you could get some train models.

don't know too much about the car models though.:hmm:

Thank you very much for your responses. I have looked at several of your links - they are extremely helpful.

I spent some time making variants of my cabover truck (ambulance, radio HQ, bare chassis, semitrailer, tanker, and so on). WIP screenies are below. I discovered that the default SH3 tanks & trucks are way too large - I think I will also rework them too.

Other than the bedford, which still had a sort of rounded front and a hood in ww2 (bedford QLD, etc), what other cabover trucks were there during the war?

Not trying to rain on the parade, but those look like modern trucks to me.

C60 was sort of flat nosed, but had a hood none the less.

I've not checked the links already posted IABL but if it hasn't already been posted, this link will take you to thousands of photos of WWII military vehicles:

The Brits had several nice-looking cabover varieties, and GMC made some as well, according to one of the links above. I think that CFS3 has a nice model of a British cab-over tanker as an air base object, but I'd rather not use it.

Yeah, I remember reading about a GM truck that was confusing for the mechanics cause it was the first cabover they'd seen (think this was after d-day).

Cool! I'm used to the beddy, hadn't see the others :)

Sweet
Nice looking trucks
Trains were carried a lot across the Atlantic and elsewhere and would be a good addition
Deck candy is always better with more options
BUT
You do know deck cargo is set in the RND\SCR on units already scripted

Isnt randomised - if no cargo is chosen game defaults to Freight Container
So existing campaign RND\SCRs have to be gone through to replace old deck cargo with new ones
Tiresome job

Sure you knew that anyway

Of course always handy to have for new scripting or reworking of existing filesets

Yes; I was going to go through the GWX convoys and add different deck cargoes to the ships (and maybe release it with permission from you guys).

Thanks, Jim & Mikhayl.

BTW, I replaced the http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d54/iambecomelife/Untitled-12-4.jpgtruck cab with a more "retro" looking one..

I'm tater there, too. I lone wolf it (allied) since none of the rest of my squad plays anymore (including an ex-Rat), but I've been around since, well, since before the game was released, I was a closed-beta tester.
