Does anyone know of a way (or maybe already done this) to bring back the stock SH3 nights? GWX3.0 is just way to dark when combined with my old Dell 2001fp LCD monitor.

Before the flames start let me say that not everyone suffers from the dark in GWX the same. My buddy has a newer dell monitor and night looks fine...dark but at least you can see your bridge crew, and outlines of ships at 1,000m.

With my crappy monitor I cant even see my watch officer. It really is like having my monitor turned off...total black. And this is with my room dark (even at night) and the TV in my room providing the only light (and the TV is no where near my monitor screen, in fact it is about 7 feet behind my monitors back). I have to jack my digital vibrance to 30% and Gamma to 70% on Nvidia control panel to see the bow of my sub. But then have to ALT-TAB out during the day to turn it back down or everything is washed out. And this has caused me to loose ships that I have sunk when SH3 crashes coming back in. Very annoying.

I know realistically at night in the middle of the ocean its dark. And if it is raining/foggy you shouldnt be able to see. But even in a calm night with no clouds and full moon, its literally pitch black.

I think there is already some mod that makes those nights clearer. Do a search here :hmm:

Have you tried OLCE? His environment mod is what the GWX team based their work upon, but it might be aslightly different. I know the values used are not the same, so it could be worth giving a try.

Also You must know how editing some files like a Scene dat, Sky Colors dat, EnvColors:Atl, Med, Arc dat :yep: [Atl- water for atlantic ocean, Arc for Arctic waters and Med for... Morza Srodziemnego:rotfl:
Also You will find textures in this files. You can rechange textures between files from stock game and GWX. Also via S3D You must set correct parameters or simply search for mod where someone do this earlier if You don't know S3D very well.

I'm fairly certain that its the 16km atmosphere that makes it darker.

disable the gwx-16 km atmosphere (if you have it running)

find the STOCK skycolors_atl , skycolors_med, skycolors_arct (there are inside data/env/). copy them and then paste them into the gwx3 same place (data/env/)
don't forget to back -up the gwx files that you will replace first !
bye

That's right makman94. This is the simply way to bring back this colors, but operation describe by You will change also a day colors to the default settings from the stock game:yep:. And when we rechange all files then we possibly have missing something from newer ones.

Buy a new monitor. Don't blame GWX if you're having worn-out hardware.

Damn...didnt realise GWX changed the day also....humm. Might be worth it to deal with the dark nights just for the improved day.

And as Contact said... I need a new monitor anyway. The wife just said she wants a LCD for her office, so I said "I will give you my 20" if I can buy a new one"  Bribery gets you everything.

Try asking a GWX team. Big Boy Wooly for example. He's kinda their answer man. I've gotten tons of help from him and many other GWX members.:yep:

About the new monitor. You got that advice from an 11yo who probably plays on his parents computer. :p :rotfl:

SHHHHH!!! the wife doesnt have to know that. All she knows is GWX 3.0 has kept me out of her hair since 12/24/08 :rotfl: I keep telling her I need the new monitor because I cant really play my sub sim game... and if I cant play, I will just have to hang around her all day :rotfl:

Thank's

Optimus Prime.... you wouldnt have happened to be a part of a Freelancer clan called the Mercenary Navy would you? If yes...I used to be {MN}Commodore Winkie.... faamecanic is my alter ego :)

Back OT ... Understand that at night especially in rain/fog or no moon you shouldnt be able to see the hand in front of your face. Afterall there is NO LIGHT. BUT how fun would that be. Sometimes we simmers go overboard in trying to make something so realistic that we then make a game unplayable or take away the fun factor.

Example: I have a cave exploring sim. THe premise is you go down in a cave and get lost, after 2 hours your lateren batteries die. Its pitch black (simulated by turning off your monitor)... you have to find your way out. How many would like to play ??

I guess playing the game with the monitor turned off is not everyone's idea of fun. :D

As far as SH3 is concerned, I have an old CRT monitor and can't see anything at night. It's nothing new, it was the same when I was playing stock game.

Fortunately the monitor has a button that boosts brightness ("movie mode" :D), and that works fine for me.

I just deal with the dark by either jacking up my gamma (which has problems stated above with Alt-Tab'ing) or thank goodness for the "Lock" feature on the P-scope.

Oh well...the only negative I have with GWX is the darkness...so its not a big deal, I can live with it given 1) its the best damn mod (hell best damn sub sim) out there 2) I paid $0 (very grateful to the GWX team so please dont take my posts about this wrong).

Problem is I go up to the bridge and cant even see the Watch officer's outline against the sky... it is literally like IM in a cave.

If you read the whole thread (and you may have) you will see that I said with my buddy's monitor I can see the tip of my sub at night (and not much else). That is realisitic IMHO. But on my monitor it looks like I had a graphic card failure and my monitor shut off...its BLACK. Wish I could post a screen shot (tried that) but then it would be subject to whatever setting the viewer is using on thier own monitor....

Starlion...no problem bud

Kipp.... this is something I have been struggling with since GWX first came out. Its just my old monitor and the way it deals with darkness. So I doubt the GWX 2.1 env would help any. but thanks for the attempt.

I'll just have to jack my gamma up when I play SH3 and deal with the "Bermuda" sun brightness even though Im patrolling up near Narvik :yep:

The dark nights have given me a new tactic. I come in from
the stern on the surface and line up my bow in the middle of
their stern and at about 800 m I glance at the AOB and see
178 - 182 and pop lose with two torp. I am 4 for 4 using this
method.
