Well, it seems my GWX install has imploded on itself or something. To start off, my list of mods. (In order, as best as I can remember... I just unloaded all of the addons for GWX)

GWX 3.0 +
GWX - Captain America's Officer Icons
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Lite Harbor Traffic
GWX - Main movie - 'Das Boot'
GWX - No Medals on Crew
GWX 3 St Naz and Schluese and other units
GWX - Grey Tails & Colored Warship
[And from here the order may or may not be correct]
Lifeboats & Debris (v4)
Submarine Icons (My own creation, just changes the GWX compass-submarine-icon-thing when you zoom in back to the default sub marker)
Thomsen's Sound Pack v3.2
No RING RING Mod by Melendir (Because I hate ringing noises)
Community Units
Torpedo Fixes (Basically adjusts the wakes for steam and electrics)
LRT v2.02 Final with SRM
Sergbuto's Camera Mod
and CapZap's blue menu screens

Now then. Basically, today SH3 started the whole CTD-while-loading-patrol business again, and I'm not really sure why. After ending a patrol and exiting the game I decided to swap the camera mod and LRT around. (LRT canceled out the camera mod, and I like to sit in the captain's bed and sway) That's when the CTD buggery started up, although previously it also would happen if I had the Waterstreams/Exhaust kombimod 1.0 enabled.

So after playing around with the mod order to no avail, I decided to just dump all the addons and see if barebones GWX would work. Now SH3 just crashes while loading the main menu, so I have no idea if that's fixed the patrol CTD issue.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas, or if I've just somehow screwed up GWX so badly that only a complete reinstall will fix this. Hopefully that all makes some sense and I haven't just confused you all as well.

At the moment I'm running another install of SH3/GWX, maybe I can compare a clean install to my current one.

Or I might just skip that and copy my career over. :hmm:

White Penguin.

The problem does not reside with the GWX mod... but with your installation and the mod-soup instead. Too many conflicting files there.

1) Go back to bare-bones GWX.

2) Delete the "SH3" folder in "My Documents"

3) Try to run a career again.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to uninstall SH3 altogether USING THE GAME DISK to ensure that all traces of SH3 are whiped out, manuall delete all remaining GWX files from your PC in the Ubisoft directory... and rebuild your installation from scratch.

1) Went back to barebones... Crash to desktop everytime it loads up the game...

2) ... So I renamed the game folder in My Documents (Wanted to save my career if possible) ...

3) ... And still nothing. Kinda hard to run a career when you can't even get the main menu.

I guess it's time to swap over to my new install and get rid of the old one. I tested the clean install with the included 'GWX-approved' mods I used and Rubini's grey tails mod enabled, no problems. I guess I'll have to cut back on the [cool] junk I throw into my install.

Anyways, thanks for the help. Hopefully I can keep this particular install afloat longer than the others...

Hate stating/repeating the obvious but a clean install is probably your best way forward http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

Yep, did that last night. Hopefully all goes well with the new install.

@ BBW: XP, didn't even think about checking the error mesages... Well, if they pop up again, I'll try to remember that. :hmm:

So I copied my career files over to my new install, and when I went to load the latest save (In port, for what it's worth) I noticed that the Type XXI was listed as my submarine... This in November 1939, when the IXB is big news. Unsurprisingly, it crashed while loading the patrol. I'm going to delete the folder in My Documents and see if a new career will work out.

So guess who came to visit! That's right, Dr. Watson, Postmortem debugger!

My current career has been going fine, up until Patrol #7. CTD while loading patrol, with the same error as before. (See above post for info) Nothing changed since last patrol, no new mods or files, etc. :hmm: Tried starting the patrol several times, same thing. I wonder if my computer dislikes me.

Sorry
Whats the date of your crash ?

In-game or in real life? :hmm: Reality-wise, the game started this up last night. Game date is November 12th.

Patrol 7 in Nov 39

Dont think its a game issue as beyond that date myself now
Will do a search see what it brings up

I prefer to keep loitering to a minimum  (Also have days in port randomized)

After reinstalling GWX I decided to cut back on the number of mods I run. These seem to work more or less, until now, of course.

I'm going to try starting a new career in a bit to see if it's a save issue or suchnot.

Hmmmm still a few in there I would remove
Then run a career

Waterstream\lifeboats and debris\community units\lrt
Any one of those could be your problem

Weiss Pinguin
01-18-09, 02:07 PM
Tried a new career, no go. Think I'll try removing Waterstreams/Exhaust first, as that caused problems on my last install. Do you think replacing LRT 2.02 with 2.03 would do anything?

bigboywooly
01-18-09, 02:37 PM
TBH not looked at either of them so I cant say whats been changed
Post in the release thread
May get an answer there

Crap when it gets like this

Well, I googled msvcr71.dll, and found several download links. Extracted the new file to my SH3 folder, and started a new career with the 1st Flotilla, 1939. Seems to have fixed my problem.

Unfortunately, when I went to delete my test career I accidentally deleted Fritz Kruger instead... :o

There can be many reason for game crash. Some of these:

Missing files, colisions beetwen units [the same date or name in the same time in game for two units - bad campaigns files set]. Maybe You have all units files in the Roster, but don't You have one file from Sea, or Air for example. Maybe some units are not compatible with your Library files. [This you can check by opening the museum succesfully and watching all units]. Maybe Id for two units, are the same [Dat., Sim.] - colision. Bad save file. For example when You starting from Milk Cow, or other base SH3 Commander always set day to 1 automaticaly. More set then - more probablity of a game crush when You are in mid patrol - most peoples knows this, but always good to remember. XXI in 39? Do you use this boat from 1939?
Then maybe bad set for this Boat?SH3 game never crushes without a reason.
Maybe Your problem is there, where You don't even expect it.:yep:
