I just started my first Med career and I noticed that in 1942 there are many German surface ships around, including some Z-class destroyers (e. g. one docked in the Livorno harbour). They are even more than Italian surface combatants.
This is completely anti-historical: obviously no KM surface ships could sneak through Gibraltar, so the Germans had to count exclusively on vessels captured in the Mediterranean. Moreover, the presence of German warships had an increase after the surrender of Italy in 1943: before that, from the Axis point of view, the Med was almost an entirely Italian affair.
Even after Italian surrender, the KM had in the Med mostly small vessels -- the size of a destroyer being the exception.
If anyone is interested, I could try to sort out a complete list of the ships that served under German flag in the Med.
