This mod will allow the crew to work the deck and flack guns regardless of how inclement the weather conditions are.

Be advised.....the bridge crew will no longer wear their oilskins in stormy weather.

Jim...does this use the same basic cfg change as the one for previous versions? If so, something everyone might want to keep in mind...NEVER move the gun when it is underwater! This will move your aim point off a little, every time you do it, until you are way off with the gun's sight. Once you have whacked the gun's sight, it will remain whacked for the rest of your patrol.

Thanks for the mod Jim. Would be totaly perfect if it could allow to use deck/flak guns in rainy weather but in calm or medium calm seas only. Since now I see it like fighting the nature no matter what, and of course it will make us go away from realism a bit..
Despite of that it is usefull mod for players with lower realism settings :up:

Since now I see it like fighting the nature no matter what, and of course it will make us go away from realism a bit.. Not necessarily. Just because you can use DG in heavy seas, doesn't mean you have to. :D You are given a choice. Besides, you'll hardly hit anything with that 15m/s wind. :D

I guess you're right too meduza, but still there should be a "man overboard mod" for this mod. Like use it for your own risk and concious about bringing your men safely home :)

To answer the previous 4 posters:

DO NOT/TRY NOT to move the gun whilst inder the waves/water (the guns won't fire anyway so it's absolutely pointless).

Those with lower realism settings may decide upon using it.

Precisely....people now have a choice.

A "man overboard mod" is a great idea.

You might want to check your storm conditions settings.

Any way to make that the crew will receive damage while they stay on the deck in rough seas ??. :hmm:

Nice mod.

BTW, some time ago I found some info that tells you how to edit these conditions for single boats and not all. (guns and ammo too)
I've only used this for changes in gun use because sometimes I felt that my crew could have easily manned the gun but the game wouldn't let them. I'm just not wasting an eel on a lonely enemy fishingboat :)

Always backup your original .cfg files before editing them!

Just for your information.

Try Data/CFG.....basic CFG folder for ammo changes and ammo slots and Data/Submaries/NSS-whatever sub type/CFG......StormConditions setting for deck gun use.

For example:

VIIc, just deck gun use changes:

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=13;meters 12.5
SnorkelDepth=12;meters 12.5
CrashDepth=100;meters
MaxDepth=500;meters
SurfaceDepth=8;meters
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=20;meters
StormConditions=300,50;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

Thx Jim :up: This was one of the first things I changed.

I'm reading U-BOAT ACE The Wolfgang Luth story for about the 6th time.

I will post the page and paragraph about him useing the DG in bad weather. But it was done.:yep:

For anyone to say it's not realistic I say, learn to read. :rotfl:

Where are our bookworm historians when you need them ? :p :rotfl:

Okay, I'll bite. Exactly how bad was the weather? What were the results? How many shells fired? How many on target. How often did it happen. How often did it succeed? How often did it fail?

I've been in bad weather at sea, and I mean weather that I thought was going to sink our destroyer. It's not a picnic, and bad weather gunning usually means no hits, and crewmen lost overboard.

As the statisticians like to say, "Once is not a trend." And one account does not make for a good policy.

I might give this one a try. Seems that that the threshold is unrealistically low allowing the guns to be manned. There were a few times when the seas were a bit choppy, but I thought shooting would still be possible.

True enough...

You pretty much need a cattle prod to get the gunners on deck if there's much more than a cloud in the sky... :O:

The problem is that the game limits the wind to a maximum of 15 m/s, which is about 33 knots, which means 10-foot (3m) waves, which while pretty nasty is not a full-blown storm.

The cutoff of the the guns in stock is 7 m/s, which is a wave height of 1m (3.3 feet), which might cause trouble but is not going to cause the gun crew to abandon their positions. The problem is that foul-weather gear is also tied to gun use, so if you allow gun use at maximum weather conditions they will never put on their oilskins. I keep mine set at 11 m/s and use Commander to set the wave height to 'Seasonal'. That way it might say 7 m/s and look absolutely calm, or in winter it might say 7 m/s and I'll see water washing over the deck. Any time I see that I don't use the deck gun. Simple and effective, and (to my mind anyway) realistic.
