any helps on how to make ships in SH3/GWX roll over/capsize more often? to me roll over/capsize ships are more entertaining than all other sinkings.

I've never had a ship not roll over and capsize in GWX. Are you overkilling the ships with 3-4 torpedoes?

really? mine usually go stern/bow first or break in two...
I've only seen a big ship capsize once... A large merchant, i fired 2 torpedoes at her and she listed badly, after finishing her off with deck gun shots she was listing nearly 90 degrees to starboard, then she just turned upside down and went down showing her propellers. It was pretty cool :arrgh!:

I asked this same question a while back. I've never seen a capsize either not even from stock install.
Best regards.

now that i think about it.. could it be that i usually fire mags under the keel of my targets. keeping them "balanced" as they fill with water.
is that modeled? :hmm:

I usually go for bigger cargo ships (Deathly afraid of convoy escorts). Maybe its because they're so top-heavy they capsize a lot. I think bow or stern shots cause boats to tip over, and middle hull shots cause them to capsize and flip over.
Water is various areas of the hull is modeled, thats why bow shots make ships sink so much faster.

i know it is "longitudinally" but i meant if it is "sideways".
i mean... if there is a real difference between a mag under the keel or a contact pistol 1m under the surface at the starboard side.

As far as I know, there is some difference. Under-keel shots tend to break a ship in half, but when it doesn't the ship will either go under starboard or port (depending on where you hit it). A 1m shot on starboard will always cause the ship to capsize in that direction and vice versa for port.

I've only seen one or two capsizes personally, and those were a long while back. Then again, I usually go for the bow or under the smokestacks, and always under the keel. I have seen my targets list to one side, but not a lot of capsizes.

I've never seen one capsize in 3+ years of play.
Many go over 90 degrees to port or starboard & then go down but have never seen one turn turtle completely.
Would be cool to see that. Is it something that is moddable?

Battleships tend to capsize, as do all top-heavy ships.

look, all i'm asking how to mod ships to roll over/capsized more often than all other sinkings or any help on maybe the zones.cfg file can make the ships roll over/capsized, I have GWX 2.1, but downloading 3.

Here's something that ought to work:
Download S3ditor (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=119571) and open the .sim file of the ship you want to edit. Then, click on the Unit_Ship entry and raise the GC height. Keep in mind that this may dramatically alter how the ship(s) handle in bad weather...

Well, until an actual modder comes along, we kinda drift off into our own discussions..
So! Who here likes cheese?

Lil' Subsim, if you get around to doing this it would be nice to hear how it turns out. I am thinking about changing the ships in the Merchant Fleet Mod to allow for more capsizes, and I would like to find out whether or not any weird behavior ensues.

Changeing the CG will cause problems.
That I can attest to.
You can add a flood zone to the sides of units that help roll
them over.
But they must be placed and sized very carefully.
A flood zone will take on water EVERYtime a wave passes through it!
So it must be high enuff to survive bad weather,
but low enuff to take on water with the proper hit.
A VERY Wise person once told me,
"If no one notices the damage model? You've done a good job.
It comes down to a matter of feel. Does it feel and look good."
I follow that advise and do extensive testing now.
If I can do one quarter of as good of damage model as Him?
I feel lucky.

so far only tried the large merchant or nkgn, but i noticed there is a limit to how much you put in the gc height, like first time i did it, set up to 9.5, it roll over without taking any damage or nothing, so i had to play with it around to get where i wanted.

Been playing forever - never, ever seen a rollover and I've torpedo'd them every which way you can.
Had one I thought would go but it hit about 90 degrees and then went down.
Seem to recall in previous posts long ago capsizing wasn't an option.
Anyone noticed this though.............
Hit and got points for sinking a composite merchant I think it was, ship started to go down but left a 'part ship' floating there. Happened several times.
Had a rudimentary (big triagles) bow, small midsection, back end and that was it - sometimes a derrick or part superstructure, no props and was unsinkable.
I had some screenies but in my haste to install GWX3 deleted them, not seen any in 3 yet...............

Yeah, there was a thread on that, way back. Not sure if it was a glitch or programmed in as a possibility.

its more entertaining than other sinkings, anyway, been testing around with the gc_height, theres always a limit to how much you put like in a large tanker or NOTMS, if you put to lets say 18, it will roll over for no reason, but a number like 10, it doesnt roll over automatically, but the ship can be on the tilting side in bad weather, but can roll over after a torpedo hit or two on some ships, others require more, so far, only tested the tankers, in the game, most of them roll over, but the whale factory ship have been giving me a hard time.
