View Full Version : Taking control of dive angle?

I've used lots of sub simulations over the last 15 years and some allow manual control of dive angle, some don't (SH3?). Has anyone ever done a mod which would allow you to set your dive planes in SH3? You can manually set your speed, you can manually set your rudder position...but you cant set dive angle. Would be sweet to really drive the boat.

well, the whole point of SH3 is to put into the captains (i should say Kaleuns) chair and put you smack dab into WWII...
if there was a way to make settable dive planes, you might end up driving your Boat into the bottom at 1024x time compression. not fun
the only way to make the PLanes human controlled is to dive into what cant be dove into...we need the SDK to make the planes act like you want them to...maybe when they release a new engine they will release the Sh3-4 engine...
sorry for the negative answer...but facts are facts

Would be fun if there was an option to work your way from an ordinary sailor to the u-boat captain in the campaign
But thats already another sim-game :)

prowler3; It would seem in a game where you can set planes to normal dive would allow for even a slight rise on the planes as well. But from what I gather it's just not possible to do, or mod due to the game engine - code limitation.
I'm guessing such limitations affect balast control possibilites as well.
Speaking for myself but I don't think I'm alone here, the negative buoyancy under 160m is annoying without a counter balance or control for lack of better description. And so silent speed (50 rpms - 1 knot) isn't a steady option. Now add any damage at all to the picture and, well you know the story.

I always thought it was kind of funny that there was a dive command but no ascend. :p

And that's exactly why I was asking...kind of like a "trim" setting in FS9. At Silent Running you couls, possibly, maintain depth by increasing dive plane up angle. Oh well.
