My father has SHIV and is enjoying it. He is currently using 1.4 stock in 'Easy' mode. I was about to 'upgrade' him to TMO 1.4 but wasn't sure if he could still use 'Easy' mode. He much prefers auto-targetting etc so I don't want him to lose that but I think he'd appreciate the touch of realism that TMO brings.

So.....my question.....can I install TMO but still keep on the easy settings etc? (I'd check my own system but I'm not at home and have been on hard settings for so long I can't remember.).

Thanks and all the best for the holidays.

Oh, yeah, there's no problem with the easy settings. The problem is what easy means. It only means that you get the unlimited fuel, auto targeting, unlimited batteries, and all the gameplay options. It doesn't have a thing to do with the plotting changes or enemy AI changes that TMO make. They will be just as difficult, no matter what settings you choose.

The worst part for the inexperienced player would be the extreme enemy AI which WILL result in him thinking the game is unbeatable. After all, you can't learn anything if you're killed early in every encounter with an enemy warship.

Also, as far as the enemy is concerned, the words TMO and realistic don't belong in the same sentence. TMO is decidedly NOT realistic. Enemy escorts can and will make accurate depth charge runs on you without pinging you and when you are below the thermal "barrier." If you are not quite skilled in evasion tactics, you will only receive frustration, not fun.

As a caveat to what RR said, the TMO readme tells how to scale down the Jap abilites back to the easy level. Easy fix to do.

Yes, I should have mentioned that. If you're up to that adjustment, he will like TMO much better than stock.
