View Full Version : GWX3.0 and Marhk's Ocean MADNESS v2?

I'm in the process of dl'ing GWX3.0 now. While I'm waiting I was reviewing some of my non-GWX mods to see if any glaring incompatibilities might jump out. After reading about (and seeing the screenshots of) the fantastic looking GWX3.0 improvement in water rendering, I'm wondering if Marhk's Ocean MADNESS v2 will interfere with it? I use the mod to lighten up the environment...I just can't figure a full moon in the sky and STILL not being able to see anything at night? It seemed to work well with GWX2.1 but with 3.0's obvious improvements to the environment (thanks OLC!) I'm checking first before I use Marhk's Ocean MADNESS v2.

I have a night fix that worked with the the last release...and im hoping once I get the key figured out it will work for this one...

Ill post more...

Excellent, Koondawg. Are you saying that Marhk's Ocean MADNESS v2 did not work with GWX2.1? Perhaps it was some monitor settings or nVidia control panel, on my part, which seemed to lighten the night slightly? I'm not looking to see targets on a dark, stormy and rainy night 6,000 meters away...it is what it is. Those quiet nights with clear skies are too dark for me, however.

I get the feeling, without knowing much, that the moon phase or (maybe even) cloud cover doesn't change the general "lightness/darkness" of the environment in SH3?

Anywho...will be looking for your update.

Thanks!

I also suffer from the GWX nights being WAAAY to dark...and its due to my crappy old DELL 2001FP LCD monitor, not GWX.

I did find that if you have a NVIDIA card, if you go into the NVIDIA control panel/color correction and up you Digital vibrance to around 30% or so...it DOES lighten it up a bit, without the whitewash effect of jacking with your contrast levels.

My digital vibrance is already at 100%

Use the gamma and brightness controls to adjust it to your likeness. That is what I had to do when I was using my old CRT.

Dont forget that now GWX includes a version of OLCs work which has darker nights than previously in GWX 2.1

Be advised, (specifically speaking of 16km visibility mods for SH3) using older environmental mods will bring back the old horizon demarcation quirk and the old wave polygons.

Marhk's Ocean MADNESS v2 mod was realy good for its time, but the evolution of environmental work for SH3 has gone far beyond it now.

(Good old Marhkimov. I remember when it was he and myself working on the Grey Wolves Supermod before there was ever anyone else on the team. My how time flies. Its been almost four years now. :D )

That's a bit depressing. I wish SH3 could model available night lighting depending on conditions (moon, cloud cover, etc.). I don't think I can stand it any darker than 2.1...unless conditions warrant it. S-I-G-H.

Maybe my new LCD, due Monday, will be better...one can only hope.

Not so, Prowler3. SH3 allows for only one light setting for night-time visibility. It is a limitation that we all must live with.

However, with OLC's work in GWX... try it before you judge it because the way the horizon is modelled, you will be able to make out the outline of ships in many cases, much better than in previously available environmental modifications.

Try it instead of guessing! ;)

Oh, I will certainly try it. I'm starting the whole "clean install" as we speak. I wouldn't dream of not giving this much hard work, on your team's part, a go. That would be criminal. I did guess that SH3 limitations were the culprit...that was more "wishful thinking" on my part.

Whatever I find, I will certainly live with it. The screenshots alone, at the release thread, were enough to convince me. Many of the ugly annoyances I was going to ask about eventually, appear to be gone...great work!

I've got the idea, from other comments around, that I may be pleasantly surprised when the old CRT gets shelved and the new ASUS 26" LCD gets plugged in...but that will be another thread. I've never owned anything but CRT's.

I'm fully "in", Kpt. Lehmann!

A brave new world awaits. :arrgh!:
