Hey all...I just got this game today and it is outstanding...One quick problem I seem to be having is, For the puposes of promotions it still says I need to complete a patrol. Despite having done 4 patrols yesterday and ending them everyway I could think of I get no promotions for me or my crew. I get the renown, the medal to give out and in the logs it lists 4 patrols but no promotions. Please help my green crew get better. :damn:

You can't promote a crew member until he has completed at least one patrol on your boat. Same with awarding medals and qualifications.

Sounds to me like you're trying to promote somebody you only just got from the barracks.

Unfortunately thats not it...I've have had every member of my crew since my first patrol. Now after my 5th patrol with over 102k tons sunk, no neutrals sunk, not a single crew member killed, with realism at 88%, and over 4k renown raked up in the bank I have still yet to receive a single promotion to pass out to the boys. Tons of medals and qualifications but nada on the promotions. Just wondering if I am doing anything wrong with the way I end a patrol. I get close to my base and esc. out and dock at base...Correct or not? Thanx all for any help

I think promotions are doled out only when at least one crew member has enough experience to warrant one, and that doesn't happen every patrol.
I've certainly gone for a few patrols at a time without getting any promotions for my crew.

yes, experience is a factor.

When you complete a patrol you will only be given X amount of rewards and promotions. (usually only a few)

despite the fact that you have 40 crewmen you might only get 1 knights cross to give out or you might only get 2 or 3 promotions to give out.

while it is true that completing at least one patrol is a requirement for promotion or awards.... experience is another requirement.

each rank comes with so many experience points... basic seaman i think maxes out at 50 experience points, but each seaman starts with say... 12 experience points.

the more patrols he completes the more experience points he gets.... so if he is a brand new rookie, it might take 3 or 4 or 5 patrols for him to qualify for the promotion despite the fact that 1 patrol is the minimum.

when you click on a crew member it will give you his stats.

Morale, resilience and experience points

Its one thing i never liked about stock SH3... no matter how many patrols you complete, or no matter how many experience points your crewmen have there were never enough medals or promotions to go around.

you might have a good patrol and come back to port and there are only like 5 war badges for example.... yet everyone qualifies for them.

if you download SH3 Commander and use it to run SH3, you can manage your crew from the SH3 commander program and award them medals and promotions pretty much whenever and in whatever quantities you wish.

if you find the promotions and awards in SH3 a bit unrealistic.... perhaps SH3 Commander is your solution.

as far as not getting promotions at all... every rank has a maximum... perhaps all of your crew is already maxed though i doubt this is the case.

you will only be given promotions when at least one crew member meets the criteria by having (1) at least one patrol under his belt and (2) enough exp points to get it

if none of your crew has enough exp points... you dont get the promotion available to you yet

I am not sure if mods alter the rate of giving out of promotions. Apparently Simon is not using any major mod packs

You also have to go into the assigned patrol grid and STAY in that grid for 24 hrs. use F8 to check your mission status that it says "Reached Assigned Patrol Grid - Complete" and something like "finished Patrol grid xx - Complete" before you move out.
