View Full Version : Old BF version and Steam - can we jive?

I have the old Battlefront version of DW, patched up to version 1.04. My buddy has purchased and downloaded the game on Steam, and although I keep reading that steam will auto-update the version, his game is saying he is running version 000.

When we try and play multiplayer, we get the predictable error saying that we are not on the same version.

Is there a fix for this, or will I need to buy the steam version so that we can play the game together?

Please help, and thanks for your advice!

I am the friend. To be specific, the new steam download which I assume includes the 1.04 patch is giving me a Version number of 000 and a Build Ver of 0000... Is there a problem at Steam, or is this a SCS problem?

I bought DW via Steam , it comes with 1.04 and build 0378.
Remember Steam keeps your game up to date ( you have to check enable update in options in order to do this)
And also no problem at all when playing MP games.

I'm afraid this may be a new problem at Steam since their servers went down a few months ago, some kind of new issue because I have a fresh download of DW via Steam. Again, uninstalled and reinstalled and same issue. Ver 000 Build 0000.

Perhaps after their server outage they put a bad ver up for download?

Can anyone else verify a new download from STEAM for me and see if they can validate this problem?

--p.s. My STEAM has DW selected as "Always Keep This Program Up to Date." Under the Updates selection.

I've just had to reinstall dw off steam today, after a system format.

It seems steam has gone a little wonky as the version and build number is 0000. Now this doesn't mean that it's not 1.04, perhaps it's just a typo somewhere.

Can someone provide me with an easy to reproduce bug from previous versions so I can test if it's 1.04, or some change which is unique to the latest version.

You should question this to Steam support, cause has nothing to do with DW.

Unfortunately, STEAM says the support goes to StrategyFirst, who has yet to reply to my ticket or email. Maybe they're gone for the holidays?

Regardless, without a correct ver number, it is incompatible for multiplay between STEAM and NON-STEAM games at this time.

Thanks, glad to see someone else reproduce this.

I just bought Dangerous Waters on STEAM, but the STEAM version gives a version 000 build 0000 and I have automatically update selected. This makes it incompatible with the CD version so I can't play multiplayer!

Please help! I did this off a clean install of windows and other folks are having the same issue!

I told them this was not the intended version since it doesn't offer full compatibility between the DVD and STEAM versions. I'm not getting my hopes up. Someone from SCS or Strategy First needs to get after STEAM to check why the wrong ver is downloading.

I've just sent strategy first an email, let's hope they pull their thumbs out soon.

Hi,

I also have a Steam DW copy, and was unsure as to the version of my game (thats how I stumbled upon this thread).
According to the 1.04 patch readme file:

-------
FIXES:
-------
- Added variable in "dangerouswaters.ini" which controls the likelihood of torpedos exploding on countermeasures (e.g. ".PercentTorpsExplodeOnCM 0" up to ".PercentTorpsExplodeOnCM 100"). In multi-player matches, the host's .INI setting will be used by all players. By default the value is set to ".PercentTorpsExplodeOnCM 50".

If you open your dangerouswater.ini (found on, e.g.: c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\dangerous waters) you´ll find that line. Mine is set to 10.
So I believe we have nothing to worry about.

Gustav

Please find me on STEAM or MSN if you're looking for a game. If you add me in MSN put it up front you want to play DW or I'll spammo ya'.

Good, looks as if it's just a problem with the numbering, would like to test it however.
