Waves seemed to be much smoother. I sailed out of La Spezia on a beautiful night, calm seas. Hope to get some strong winds and high waves later on, to check out how it looks.
Depends on taste of course, but I think its an improvement to an already wonderful mod, thanks OLC

Hope you like it guys.

I couldn't agree more! I'm not sure yet whether I actually prefer the smoother waves, but I know some people dislike the polygonal look of the OLCE2 water and "smoother waves" is the only way to fix that.
I definitely like the clouds at sunset better. :yep:

Thanks again OLC. I had installed the thomson`s water mod.
With all respect for him but i didn`t like the horizon.
With this tweaked file i am happy again. The sunrising etc is great.
Really WOW.
How do you install this , Thanx

Open JSGME and disable OLCE2.
Right-click on OLCE2 in JSGME and select "Explore" to open the folder. Inside the folder is a subfolder called "data" and in that folder is a file called scene.dat. Rename it to scene.243 (this is your backup) and then put the new scene.dat file in the same folder. Close windows explorer.
Select OLCE2 in JSGME and enable it. Done.

Weeee! Alright testing it now!
I'll definitely try this tweaked file.
No polygons effect is a strong reason for me not only to give it a try but use it, for sure.
Nice work.
Thank you.
"It's possible to tweak the environment settings so that the polygons are more "blended" (less noticable) even to the point where you never really see them at all, but that would come at the cost of other graphical "effects". It's also possible to tweak the wave heights/shapes in such as way as to lessen that polygon effect, but those sorts of changes come with their own potential problems."
I guess, in a way, you finally managed to balance "potential problems" and better graphics. (?)

Unfortunately no. Like I said, I'm not sure I like the smooth water. It has the problems I said it would have. The "smoothing" removes much of the 3D/reflective effect that I liked so much in the previous versions of the OLCE2 water. It makes the water look rather flat and lifeless in comparison, but it does greatly reduce the ploygonal look of the water in some conditions, and that problem does look very ugly. It's a trade-off.
I don't know why but after this scene.dat release i am happy there is a choice between these two OLCE2 environments. Even a doubtful one. :yep:

Maybe I'm just seeing things:o but the water seems to be more reflective with this tweaked file than it was before. I'm in CO 65 (the Med); it's overcast with 7m waves & I swear that I can make out the sky's reflection in the water better than I could before. Very cool.
One question though, I have a mod that adds a moon reflection to your 2.4.3 version. Would I be correct in assuming that it is not compatible with this new file?
Thanks...:)

if OLC is not willing to add moonreflexions, i'll do that in a few days for my own usage. let me know, if you want to have the mod.
Yes I would appreciate having the moon reflection back. Thanks.:)

Thanks for letting me use your files in my mix I would like to say just how good the whole thing looks running.
I like the way the reflections of the clouds on the water are all around the sub unlike when using Thomsen Water its only the showing on the side that the sun is and the other side is just plain.
Also when I engaged two swordfish aircraft and shot them down in flames you could see the reflection of the burning aircraft racing to the impact spot also.
I don’t know why but the files all go together so well Just lucky I guess .
And all the hard work was done By you and tweaked by Thomsen and mix together by me.
I have done two versions now one is darker water than the first I am not sure which one is best yet I hope you take a look at them both again many thanks.
Edit.. and the sun rise and sun set are outstanding....never noticed the reflections of the serchlights on the water before good job to you both

For those who may be interested I've uploaded a snapshot of the first page of this thread and the associated photos. This was OLC's final tweak for his masterpiece environmental mod. You can download it here http://files.filefront.com/OLCE+TweakSnapShot+Dec087z/;12978104;/fileinfo.html
You can also down load the environmental scene.dat he created http://files.filefront.com/OLCE2+New+Scene+File7z/;12978038;/fileinfo.html
and the moon reflection mod for it http://files.filefront.com/Moonreflect+OLCE+243+Dez08rar/;12978034;/fileinfo.html that was done by h.sie
(and is still available at http://files.filefront.com/Moonreflect+OLCE+243+Dez08rar/;12655883;/fileinfo.html )
Thank you OLC for a timeless work of art :sunny:
cheers

i appreciate your work, olc. but you can work as long as you want on a tweak of the enviroment. it will never reach the state of a sh4 engine! sorry.
:o
I believe OLC's goal wasn't reaching it, but simply doing the best looking environment possible taking in consideration that it will never look as good as SH4's environment.
And oh, what a great improvement this mod is. :yep:

I couldn't agree more, Alex.
By the way if i recall correctly OLC has never bothered playing SH4.
He modded the game he likes most.
