Can you implement a new section in the RecManual for examples for the tankers?
Same like the "Merchants" section but only for the tankers, or heavy freighters, or liners.....
Within time, for me there are too much ships in the merchants section and it takes a lot of time to find the one you are looking for.
So, it would be nice to seperate things and have section for merchants, for tankers, and so on.
Thanks for help
take a look into my printable ID manual (see my filefront page). there ships are sorted by category, e.g. freighters, tankers, destroyers etc. i use that instead of the ingame one because the ingame ID manual bacame unhandy due to the great number of ships

Searched the menu_1024_768 again, also the cfg.'s of ships in data\roster and data\Sea but I can't find any link between the ships and the recognition manual.
But there has to be a entry that makes a Albanian Ship coming up in the Albanian section of the recogmanual...

.sil is the file that shows the ID Manual page for the ship in the Sea folder. To make them nation-specific requires making clones of the ships, with a new folder, name and file-set for each nation. I was getting help to do it for my ship-names mod, but was reliably informed that it would make the long loading times that much worse.
SH4 makes it a whole lot better, so look for additions for that game in the future.

New countries are addable but not seen a way to split the Handelschiffe section into different types

Hmmmm
ok
A new country needs a named folder in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Roster
They also need an entry in the defside cfg - also in the roster folder - which governs dates neutral etc
The also need a cover - C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\Gui\RecMan ual
And finally a new entry added to the flag.dat and flagS.dat - C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Library
The last one will need new nodes adding for flag attatchment either with hexediting or S3D if does it
Oh and any new shipping for that country will need to be scripted on the SCR and RND - C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Campaigns\Campa ign
New bases\defences added to the LND - C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Campaigns\Campa ign
And new ports added to the Locations.cfg - C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Terrain

Ok, thats a lot of good info.
But the section "merchants" is not a nation and there is no folder f.e. in data\roster.
I just need another "merchant" section named "tankers".
But for that i must know which entry brings up a ship in a specific section

No the merchants isnt a country but SH3 picks all types 100\101\102\103 and 104 to go into that section
As not come across that referenced in a text file is more that likely in either the exe or a dll file

Okay, so what you do is create a nation called "AA_MyShips". As it starts with "AA_" it will be before Albania, and therefore the default first book.
You then clone the ships you want and put them into the Roster and Sea files. However, don't give them "merchant" status, but "pretend" they are warships.
You create an arbitrary flag (e.g. a Tanker silhouette).
You ensure that in the book cover is called "Ships", rather than "AA_MyShips"
Then, when you start the game, you'd get a new "default recognition manual" and it would come up first.
In principle you could create several of your own volumes this way. A lot of work, but still possible.
Ummmm game would take for ever to load with all those sea units
You would still have all the IDs in the original section anyway and as you wouldnt ever see your new cloned ships without rewriting the campaign what would be the point ??

Possibly so but those units would still need to be loaded on start up and if never seen ingame - ouch - extra loading time and memory used for no gain other than being quicker to find in the rec manual
I know what you mean re the rec manual layout but some things just cant be altered and some workarounds mean more trouble than is worth
But its something you could try
