View Full Version : MOD Switcher?
Hi All,
At The Risk of asking something silly, being not a Modder myself and therefor not familiair with the structure of SH4, but....
I'm also a big fan of WW2 flight sims (IL-2) and while i was reading the forum here it sruck me that there were a lot of MODS that either goes for V1.4 or V1.5. Now at the Modding site of All Aircraft Arcade (AAA) they developed a MOD to handle just such a problem namely a MOD switcher. It allows you to switch between different versions of the game. I was wondring if that was possible with SH4 too??:hmm:

JSGME is the solution: http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products-jsgme.html
Works with practically any game.
i knew it wasn't the smartest thing to bring up:oops: but your right of course

Nothing wrong with bringing it up if you didn't know the answer, although for future occasions the search function migh be a faster way to get a solution if there is one
Having re-read your question I now see that you actually asked how to switch between different GAME versions, and to that there's no easy solution in SH4. You could do that too with JSGME, but you'd have to create your own mod that switches the files that are different between the two versions. With the latest versions of IL2 that's easy because only two files need to be swapped, but with SH4 you'd be talking about tens or hundreds of them.
There's little need for version switching mod-wise, because the most up-to-date mods will be for 1.5. Unlike in IL2 it is not a beta patch but a finalized product, and it's unlikely that any new patches are released in the near future.

You could use MultiSH4 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=108215 to have installs of the same version on your HD... Ie; I have the stock SH4 v1.5 in one directory and SH4 v1.5 with Real Fleet Boat in another for testing. Works slick...
