View Full Version : disc protection issues
vista 32 by default stops a program from using more than 2 gb ram, so I went into the sh3.exe file with cff explorer and modified it to accept more than that. It works great for all my other stuff like FSX and IL2. But now, the stupid protection program for sh3 keeps saying my .exe file is corrupted, and I should reinstall the program. Can I bypass this at all?
Is there any way I can use this tweak?

I don't know if it's legal to upload a .exe file and give you the link here in the forum. :hmm:
would it be ok over email?
All I need is a file with the "app can handle >2 gb adresset" enabled. You know how do do this and not make the sh3 disc checker angry?
Some newer versions of SHIII didn't come with copyprotection. See http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=137422&highlight=protection

If you want I can email you with a version that doens't ask for the cd to be on the drive. Made it myself.

That's not quite true.
The first link I posted, one year ago, before reading the rules, was a link to the main page of mininova. A torrent portal.
I didn't even posted a direct link to a download, just to the main page.
A moderator came, pissed all over me and gave me a warning.
It was scary... :arrgh!:

The copy protection stuff is a non-issue. The price for a 2005 game is ........:rotfl:

You might be able to if its this issue.
>start>settings>controlpanel>system>advanced system settings>Performance>
Data Execution Prevention,
Click on {Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:}
ADD
"search for the installed Silent Hunter III EXE file and add it."
Do this for all games install.
DEP check you memory of programs running. Its looking for virus and will shut it down. Sometime games can cause a shutdown or crash.

if this is a tabboo subject, I'll slowly and quietly back away as best I can.
And I'll try what wolfehunter suggested.
thanks for the help
Careful, gentlemen, you know subsim rules already :stare:
Any discussion related to helping this guy tweak Vista to make the game run properly is wellcomed,
Any discussion about procedures/tools/cracks to hack the game.exe or provide hacked ones will be terminated with a booooom!
I'll let the thread open for anyone who wants to talk about configuring Vista, but remember where the red line is, and leav any other discussion for private messaging.
Thanks
