View Full Version : Uploading my 2 years SH3 "archives" ? Anybody interrested ?

Seid gegrusst (U-)Genossen !! :p

Time for a small payback after 2 years of collecting and archiving all sorts of docs and sites ? May be, you tell me... It's mostly yours anyway...;)
I just finished sifting through all the 403 pages of the SH3 Forum,
plus a good many of the most recent on the SH3 Workshop.
In the process I have bookmarked a few among the 16.081 + threads that seemed the most important or relevant in regards to the technicity of the game. http://www.parentsworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/death.gif
Now, my C:...\Favorites\Submarines & SH3 ( i.e. My Archives after 2 years ) has risen to 4.46 GB in 626 Folders and 4593 files... http://www.parentsworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/hide.gifhttp://www.parentsworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/scratching.gif :rotfl:
The most voluminous part are pdf - xls - txt - jpg - wav - mis - wmv - html files, the web sites accounting for little.
I have already truncated and stored them for myself ( just in case ) into the following main zips : ( Sub Folders not listed for the sake of room on this page )

1-BOOKS & ARTICLES 444,730 KB
2-CALCULATORS 5,166

( 3,34 GB ) 3,343,932 KB

Now, 3 questions :

1 ) If you're afraid of the size, there are 17 Zip files for you to DL it more easily, but you can always, of course throw overboard what you don't need or already have after DL. I think it's better that you download them all at the end because in a way they are all connected and cross-referenced.
So, I'm asking you lound and clear :

IS ANYBODY INTERRESTED ?

2) I f a f f i r m a t i v e , can somebody explain to me how to upload them to
Filefront, cause it's the first time I'm doing this ?.....and don't have a b****y clue.
The links would be on this same thread. This thread might get a bit old in the meantime cause I still have a few things to polish off.

3) would the size of a few files be a problem with Filefront ?

4) Any legal issue that you can see...? ( Material is coming from you all and everywhere else ).
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks. Bump to all. http://www.parentsworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/dots.gif Servus und fette Beute. JMV

Absolutely interested!!! Especially in any pictures. There is never enough reference pictures. Filefront is very self explanatory and I believe that in their FAQ they actually state the files/sizes limitations.
If you have any specific problems with Filefront hit me up on PM I'll be glad to help.

I'm always interested in undiscovered or new SH3 files and documents! :yep:

Just keep in mind that FileFront limits your file sizes to 1GB and you must be able to upload the file in 10 hours or less. You may have to use a smaller size file to meet that 10-hour limit.

Looking forward to rummaging through your gift and seeing what gems I find amidst this treasure trove.

If you can keep individual files under 100mb then this free file sharing site is incredibly handy and very fast for uploads and downloads.
Check it out at http://drop.io/ (http://drop.io/) :yep:. You can have an almost unlimited number of 100mb drops. They will keep the files for up to one year.

If you like the service they have other options you can pay for.

@Firewall

Gotcha mate. Thanks for support.:p

@graf paper

Do you mean 1 GB in total or 1 GB per Zip file ? If per Zip file, then I will cut the
16-VIDEOS - PICTURES & PHOTOS 1,634,180 KB (which is the biggest) in 2.
10 hours should be no problem as the biggest is number 16 ( above ), or will split it further.
Should be OK for Xmas gift to you all...:sunny:

@UberTorpedo
Thanks, will have a look, but if it's ok with Filefront I would rather do it there, because it's where most of us upload. Is really 100 Mb the upward limit ? What I need to know is the max. upload size with Filefront PER Zip file.

@Medusa
Roger. Thanks for your support.:p

@bbw
You're saying 1 GB per "customer" not per Zip file ? Yes ??

Downloading as a torrent file is an alternative method, file size wouldn't be such a problem + the file would be auto-checked for errors.

could... Only thing I know, in my case you've got to be pretty
tidy.

@badwolf :)
OK thank you for that.

@Now for everybody,
You have the sizes if the different folders in my first post.
For Filefront :

1) Is it ok like this for a total of 3,34 GB per "customer",
( i.e. what is the absolute upward limit per person ?) or/and

2) Do I have to split them further, especially number 16, which
is the biggest one ? ( i.e. what is the upward limit per file ? )
I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT UPLOADING, SO I PROBABLY
LOOK A BIT "THICK" FOR SOME OF YOU. Please be
patient.:damn:

@medusaOk, thanks for that. Now I start to understand. See also my answer to Myxale just below.@myxaleYes, thanks,I just gather that, as number 16 is 1,634,180 KB, I will probably have to split it so it's under 1 GBHowever in my book dare I say ( in my folders ) Sounds are categorized in a different folder. Itself split in 2 :1) About sounds in general and sound DL ( the importance of sounds for the purpose and interest of war waging for example - mainly web sites )2) Music : web sites and Subsim relevant threads.3) Only ONE pure music You tube right now "Craig Armstrong - Escape (Full Version)". JMV, use CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to delete your cookies and some other stuff that may cause problems. Also make sure that your system is free of viruses and other malware..

Restoring to a point before you started experiencing problems is also a good idea.

What do you use to browse i.e. Internet explorer, firefox etc. Possibility the settings ("Options" in browser) have been altered for "Your security settings do not allow websites to use active X..."
Also check if using your own firewall that the XPWin firewall is switched off, running 2 firewalls creates complications.

Are you using a proxy site first before coming to subsim ?

JMV
11-18-08, 05:04 PM
All that happened after changing something in the internet settings (by mistake obviously while trying to put a site on the restricted sites list). Since that, I've been on the web and checked about everything related to security settings. Unless I'm missing something ...? Proxy, don't know exactly what's it for but I don't believe I changed anything related to that. Other clue : I have an icon showing below the page with a kind of "no Parking" like icon with "Restricted Sites" written. Don't know if it's normal, but as far as I can remember there should be the "planet Earth" icon (for Internet).Sorry guys about all that, obviously not SH3 related. My thread is taking a wild slide into the ditch, from the initial purpose. JMV

On the Web, they say :Click "Service" \ "Internet Options"; Click "Connections"; If you use Dial-Up connection, choose your connection and click "Settings" button.if you use LAN connection, click "LAN Settings" button in the "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" group box; Enable "use a proxy server"; In fields "Address" and "port", type proxy name and proxy port; Question is :1) Must it be enabled ?2) If Yes, what is the proxy name ? Port is already written "80".JMV

11-18-08, 06:41 PM
I doubt that you have any proxy settings for your home broadband. Usually proxy settings are used if you are at work and the IT administrators want to limit or stop people going to certain websites. Try deleting your temporary internet files and cookies from the general tab in internet options. Check to see if the security settings for the internet are on medium high under the security tab. Under the privacy tab on internet options make the setting medium. If those settings dont work you can go to the advanced tab on internet options and click on the button called reset. As it says it should reset any changes that have accidentally been made to internet explorer.

Oh miracle !!
I changed my browser to firefox, and everything seems to be working back the right way now:up:. Smilies are woorking. Bold and colours back again. Automated redirecting also. Don't know why, but I'm not to keen on digging into it for now, as I've been into a ditch about the main subject of this thread since Post#19.Thousand thanks for the advice, I was really :damn::damn::damn: for a good 5-6 hours.

Now, as I said before, in Post#42 :
The only good news is I downloaded 7z, and managed to recompress my files at a better rate : (2.70 GB) 2,695,423 KB compare with original size on Post#1( 3,34 GB ) 3,343,932 KB.

Now I'm gonna try registering and logging in to Filefront, which for some reason I was unable to do. But my biggest 7z file is 1.17GB. Do you think it's ok for filefront ? I guess it's too big, and I can't really split the file.

Then, as suggested before, may be I should try Torrents. Only that I don't understand the concept : Is it something that you would have to download as in Filefront, or is it something I will have to e-mail for everyone of you that would be interrested with my initial proposal ??

OK, will start studdying torrent, just if one can answer me on the above question.

Thanks for your help all again, though that you might not be out of the wood with me, just YET. :rotfl: JMV

Glad you got it working.

Here's some help on torrents.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=135333&highlight=torrent

You'll need a torrent client, I strongly suggest uTorrent (beginner friendly). Install it and then set up the ports. It's not as complicated as seems and I'm sure there's plenty of guys who'll help you.

Then you make your torrent (link below)
http://torrentfreak.com/how-to-create-a-torrent/

Make sure your internet security is up to date.

JMV
11-18-08, 10:07 PM
Thank you for the advise. :p Will dig into that as well as the site UberTorpedo mentionned
in Post #8.
But still, as asked in my previous post, Is it like a file that you guys would have to download as in Filefront, or is it something I will have to e-mail for everyone of you that would be interrested with my initial proposal ?? I don't get the concept, and it's always difficult to understand on specialized sites. ( Am a bit slow on those things, and that's the first time ever for me. May be I get less noob one day ). Can somebody explain to me very shortly ? Thanks JMV

badwolf
11-18-08, 11:19 PM
We'll say your project is in a folder called "SH3Archives" and when compressed it becomes "SH3Archives.zip".

In the torrent client you make a "new torrent" called "SH3Archives.zip.torrent" (It will be about 50Kbs in size).
You make "SH3Archives.zip.torrent" available to everyone on a site.

You run your Torrent Client (uTorrent) and seed the torrent (Upload SH3Archives.zip). The file SH3Archives.zip will be uploaded in small chunks to other people's computers who will then share amongst themselves. As people download at different rates some will get the complete file before others and so also become seeds (uploading to others). When enough seeds say 5, then you can stop, they will take over uploading.

Hope this brief explanation helps.

Thank you for your help badwolf,
I'm gonna give it a try, but there's a good 95% chance that I will quickly put all those files down the drain, :dead: or give all those b****y 7z files I made through e-mail or what not to somebody that is fluent with all those things, and who could be interested, and he can "Torrent" it for you all if he thinks that can serve our community. I could even send the CD via mail, serious !! ( why not )
Queue up right here.!

Not really that I backing up trying to be selfish though...

Ok, that's the final breakdown after having them converted into 7z. I'm thinking about making it more detailed.

I've found there's a limit to how much you can Email in one go, I suppose ISP's vary. Will check-in to give you any assistance necessary and if you do seed a torrent will assist with the seeding as I have a reasonably fast connection. We'll sort that out when your ready, as there's a way to make it easier for you to upload.
As I said using torrents is not difficult, but will help with any problems if needed.

If you're going to use bittorrent to distribute the archive as a torrent, there's a major security issue to consider.

All torrents get "hammered" as it is called. This means bogus clients trying to clog your torrent with traffic to slow it to a crawl or using the open ports for the torrent to compromise your system. Many of these connections seem to originate from China.

My advice...never ever use a bittorrent client without PeerGuardian or a similar utility for filtering and blocking known bad IP traffic. Azureus has its own filter built in called SafePeer. uTorrent requires using an external filtering program like PG.

7-Zip should allow you to set a maximum size for an archive so that it will split the 2.70GB into multiple files that will meet the 1GB per file limit for FileFront.

RTFM, as the saying goes. ;)

Thank you again both and others for you willingness to assist me. That's really nice of you all. After a good night sleep I thought it would go better. I tried Utorrent, but I understand strictly nothing, asking me to imput current port number I have no idea of, telling me after a while the port is not good and what not...
No, I definitely give up on that, and I can't decently bother the whole community every 5 minutes on how to do this and that. :nope:

Now, checked in Filefront this morning, and saw that it would take 10 hours to upload 435 GB ( my first file ), so I'm giving that up too. It's far too long. And if I start cutting the main directories to make up a reasonable uploading time I will probably end up with 50 or 70 files... Forget it ! :nope:

Anyway from what Graf Paper says, it's really war out there... It's like in the real
world : A new weapon appear, and a little while after someone shoots you with a new counter weapon. No thank you. Plus It's becoming absurd, now you need a 3 years degree before you can use anything. And if you do, you still have to download 2 or 3 extra programs so the initial one is not bugged by an invisible "ennemy" or what not. :nope: PERIOD

But you're not over with me yet, Hehehe.. :p

What I will do :

1) Depending on my finances, I will send 4.7 GB DVD+RW' CD's to a few people. ( My e-mail address is in the "View Public Profile" clicking on my name ).
What I would like though, is that those people try to make it availiable one way or the other to the whole community. Under their own name, I don't mind.

2) I unfortunately can't satisfy everybody, for obvious reasons, but I have made up my mind about the following list :

A) Kpt. Lehmann : For his outstanding work on GWX, that I am using extensively, hoping he can pass it on to the other members of his team ( or more ) . I hope you will all agree with that.

For the others, I'm basing myself on the c o n s t r u c t i v e answers I received in this thread ( in the attempt of sorting out the hopeless noob that I am.. :rotfl:)

B) badwolf : 6 answers
C) j o nn y : 3 "
D) Firewall : 2 "
E) Graf Paper : 2 "
F) evan 82 : 2 "
G) medusa : 2 "
H) Myxale : 1 "
I) Jimbuna : 1 "
J ) bigboywooly : 1 "
K) Uber Torpedo : 1 " TOTAL : 11

Same thing here : What I would like though, is that those people try to make it availiable one way or the other to the whole community. Under their own name, I don't mind. For who's name it will be ( if a name has to be ), please make your mind between yourselves, preferably on this thread, so I don't have to search too long to see the outcome. And somehow it's still my idea. :smug:

My personnal preference would go to Cpt. Lehmann for I know he can do a very neat job, but He has the right to refuse, of course... Up to you Kaleuns !

So, if you are interested, e-mail me your address so I can send the CD's. Don't forget to mention your subsim name, so I can identify. ( Those trying to get one under an assumed name will be prosecuted. ) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
The CD's are not ready yet, of course, and I have a few "explanation.txt" or readme files to place here and there in the folders.

In your Post #24 you say :

"Abit ot but I see you have FSX too. Ispend too much time playing it and let my VIIB get rusty. :rotfl: Been trying to find any freeware mods for it. Haven't had much luck. "

Heeey ! How do you know I have FSX ??? Tis odd indeed, have you installed some spying device on my PC ? :nope:

I have 401 MB of docs, freeware, plane checklists, extra plane mods, etc... The biggest folder is 174MB.
A bit like SH3 but in less elaborate.

Interrested ??

Those ports uTorrent is asking for are the ports you choose. Typically, it's best to use ports ranging from 60000-65500. I'm assuming you're using a router, so let's say you choose 62500 as the port uTorrent will use. You have to set your router to allow this port so it will not be blocked by the NAT firewall in the router.

As for protecting yourself, PeerGuardian does a good job and the blocklists are updated daily to keep you protected. Shutting off that port in your router when you're not sharing a torrent is another thing to do. That's as simple as unchecking a box in the router's setup menu.

You could also just use FTP to allow users to connect directly to your computer and download only the files in your SH3 archive. Filezilla is an excellent FTP client and server that is free and open source. Just set a port and password and that way only the people here that you give that info to will be able to connect. After a few have gotten ahold of all the files, they can then share them by whatever means at their disposal. Your bandwidth will limit the number of users that can connect and still have decent download speeds, usually around 5 at once if you devote all of your connection speed to the task.

I don't have FSX, but I dearly love CFS 1-2-3, Red Baron 3D, and Fighter Squadron. I prefer flying sims/games where you get to shoot things. IL-2 '46, the combat flight sim of choice here at subsim, is currently outside my budget. SH3 was the last new game I bought.

1st Paragraph : Indeed interesting. Probably the best way so far. Will dig into that...

2nd paragraph : yes, I have CFS 3 too ( and Falcon 4.0 ) but the way they do it in FSX is close to "real Nav." ( GPS etc..) and well I like it. Falcon 4.0 is probably one of the best in its category. And the Manual ( that I printed ) is really something.

How could I forget Falcon 4.0?

I still have the deluxe edition I bought years ago for $5.00 at a thrift shop. It came with this big binder for a manual, with maps and pullouts, that has more pages than I care to remember! The few mods available update and make Falcon 4.0 look and feel like new, so well in fact that it makes you wonder why anyone would want to spend more money buying Allied Force (unless the poor soul was unfortunate enough to not have Falcon 4.0 :p). Open Falcon was the best mod, but the game maker shut them down prior to Allied Force being released.

I never did master the contents of the entire manual or the full features of the sim. It's on my short list of games to reinstall now that my computer is all fixed up.

A while ago they said "Full Spectrum Warrior" had been a training stuff for the U.S. Army, ( It's a DL for free now, just in case you don't know ) but what about Falcon ! They never were taken such as the previous, but I really think it's very near from the real thing. Never added any mods but you're giving me ideas... But I can't give up SH3 especially now, and what I have made my mind up to, until I find the answer, that is... and it's over. ( Yougave me a good advise though ) Sometimes I understand Kpt. Lehmann and the stress he must have had, and the thousand of e-mails and the thousand of answers he had to reply to on that forum...man !!
I've got to take a nap, because I had 3 pints and I must catch up a bit, as I was up until 6 A.M.
We're gonna be sacked if we carry on speaking about planes for too long. But I guess as Firewall, you might be another one interested with my FSX archives.
BTW when I said to Firewall I had 401 MB, that was not mentionning the MODS :rotfl::rotfl:
As for extra planes, for the moment 12.1 GB 229 planes. Houahahahaha
But if I leave SH3 and get back to it, I guess I'm gonna be completely lost. And it's extensively "feature modded".
See you in a while all. God bless.

Hopefully, rdp will be patient with three old guys rambling about while the main subject is discussed as well.

Falcon 4.0 has to be one of the more hardcore combat flight sims I've ever seen, but it's still a lot of fun despite the steep learning curve.

I have a few hundred planes for CFS 1 & 2, but I usually end up flying either a P-47D or a P-51B.

It will be a long time before any other game absorbs my life as much as SH3/GWX does. I'm just too hooked on it!

Well, time to make one last push to finish installing my mods for GWX. I've been at this for five days and I need my SH3! :88)

Rest well, kaleun.

Those "Archives" will contain documents from you all.
I have to know before I do anything else, if anyone of you is opposed or has any quiery about what I am going to release.
I am formally asking you all for your Permission, because a good many things that will be released are not mods, but are Pdfs-xls and stuff that have been made by some of you. ( I'm not mentionning things coming from outside the community, there...)
Please express yourself very freely, if anyone of you has any problem with that.
I will refer to that very post, if you don't say anything now, and complain after.....
I wish eveybody to play it straight on that matter.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding on that matter. :D

@SWCowboy : So sorry, I missed your answer. I was busy on my stuff, which is nearly ready BTW.( 4794 Files in 587 Folders-4.80 GB uncompressed 3.10 GB 7z compressed ):doh:

Be sure I'm not trying beeing snobby with you, and I do thank you and keep the option alive, but a member of subsim has kindly proposed to upload the files for me, a few days ago. The thing is that I would like him to check what I've done, before I take any further action, and tell me if it's done right, and if of good enough interest to you all. :hmm: I'm sending him the CD on monday, and will see first what he thinks about it. So, it will probably take a while, before I make my mind. Not a problem though, as I carry on updating in the meantime.

I tried to upload to Filefront, and actualy received an e-mail telling me I was registered, but when I try to log in, I'm denied access ?? :damn:

It's difficult to know what you must choose when you don't know about those things.
What I think, and I would wish you to tell me if I'm assuming right, is that with giving access to my Folders through remote access, you would get updated files in real time, as opposed to Filefront where I would have to replace the files regularly...

Gosh, it's seems it's more difficult to actually share those b****y files, than having the job done itself,... which is already time consuming enough. !! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

At the end may be I end up doing it both ways. ! Houhahaha :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Snobby? Not at all mate - didn't even think it to be honest with you.

"I would wish you to tell me if I'm assuming right, is that with giving access to my Folders through remote access, you would get updated files in real time, as opposed to Filefront where I would have to replace the files regularly"

FileFront has a nasty tendency to delete un-popular files so you run the risk of constantly re-uploading the same files time and time again. Not only that, but those ads and extra garbage floating around that site is just unsightly (to me at least).

With BtS-Mods.com all you need to do is upload your files once and that's it. I create your FTP access, walk you through FileZilla if you need assistance, and you simply upload your work to your folder and leave the rest to me. Once you're done, you let me know and I'm usually pretty good at putting files up as soon as I get wind of them. If you ever run into trouble, like you can't upload your files, you've got live support on-hand and your problem is solved as soon as I learn of it. If I can't be around to help there's almost always someone browsing our boards at any given time that may be able to.

I don't delete files to save space, filefront deletes them if they get too old and aren't used. With BtS you've got a site that's run by SH community members who are pretty dedicated to the place, so you really can't go wrong.
Another great thing about BtS-Mods is your files are right there with 450+ other downloads so it makes it really simple for new guys and everyone else alike to find what they're looking for based on category and not having to sift through FF profiles.

I know this sounds like a red-blooded sales pitch, that wasn't my original intention, but the pros are stacked in BtS' direction, you really can't go wrong with a site that's passionate about putting the SH community first and not their sponsors. That's just a site owner's biased opinion though

Ok, I'm at a complete loss here, and I'm very sorry to bother again, but despite the offers that have been made to me for uploading my files, I'm still wondering about a few things. : :damn::damn:

As I said before, :

1 ) I tried to upload to Filefront, and actualy received an e-mail telling me I was registered, but when I try to log in, I'm denied access ?? :damn:. I realise also that if there are no D/L for 30 days, they erase your files... That's not what I need. :nope: Plus
I have 4. 8 GB and it takes too long : about 10 hours for half a GB, or so. :nope: Plus there is a size limit...My biggest file is 1.17 GB. :nope:

2 ) Then I had CWCowboy at bts-mod.com, telling me that he could host my files, and that my files would stay hosted with no time limit. OK, that's better, but I just don't understand how it works. If I want to upload files with him, do I still have to download Filezilla Server and go through the setup, as I think I understand I should ? If yes, problem is, I'm not sure how to handle the setup. As I said in my post #69, The main thing I don't know is :

Screen 4 :
http://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?i...nstall3dp1.jpg (http://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=filezillaserverinstall3dp1.jpg)
How server should be started = default
Port Number : Should I put the same number or choose another ?
(between 1 and 65535) ?

Screen 9 :
http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?i...nstall8it5.jpg (http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=filezillaserverinstall8it5.jpg)
Server Address = Should I input the number 127.0.0.1 as suggested ?
or my server address ( which I don't know where to find )
or Subsim address ( which I don't know where to find )

+ Screen 10 and 11.

4 ) Then I was told to use Utorrent, but didn't understand nothing. :nope:

3 ) I was also thinking at giving free access to my PC and to the big folder I was
planning to upload. As I said in post #71 :

"What I think, and I would wish you to tell me if I'm assuming right, is that with giving access to my Folders through remote access, you would get updated files in real time, as opposed to Filefront where I would have to replace the files regularly..."

Am I assuming right ? :ping:

4 ) So, Graf Paper at Post #58 tell me to use a FTP like filezilla as a free access media. But CWCowboy tells me that for uploading my files with him I have to go through Filezilla as well ??? So there I don't understand. :stare::damn:
Free Network access or Upload = Same process ??

5 ) Then I realised short time ago, that I have a NETWORK SETUP WIZARD on XP.
Wouldn't that be the best way without looking too far away ? But no joy there either :damn: ,when I select my folder, clicking on "Properties" and then "sharing", the "share this folder on network" is not clickable. Probably because I'm on a LAN ? ( just my luck !! :rotfl:) or can I go round the problem, just by running the set up wizzard. If I can run it, didn't dare trying yet. Also went into "my network places/entire network/Microsoft windows network/workgroup" I get a message saying Workgroup is not accessible, you might not have permission...list of server not availiable". :damn:

Accessorily, If I manage to find a way to let you have those b****y files on a free access base, ( which doesn't seem very likely for now :rotfl:), how can I do that in such a way that you could get access to the files, of course, but not erase or modify them ?

Please, will someone tell me for once I'm pissing off the whole community with me damned files. ? :rotfl::rotfl:

Your hopeless noob. JMV

@SWCowboy : sorry again, it's becoming a habbit, I just saw your answer when coming back from writing my long post. Let me 5 mn to read it. JMV

@ SWCowboy : Yes, I must admitt, reading you it looks pretty simple, but with me you don't know what you're running into... :rotfl::rotfl:

So, OK I take you as a very good option, what remains for me to know is if it would't be actualy easier to establish a direct access to this folder on my PC via Network, BUT
as I said above I don't seem to be able to do it, at least with XP network access wizard. also as I said :

"Accessorily, If I manage to find a way to let you have those b****y files on a free access base, ( which doesn't seem very likely for now :rotfl:), how can I do that in such a way that you could get access to the files, of course, but not erase or modify them ?". Also :

"What I think, and I would wish you to tell me if I'm assuming right, is that with giving access to my Folders through remote access, you would get updated files in real time, as opposed to Filefront."

@ SWCowboy : You said :
"I know this sounds like a red-blooded sales pitch, that wasn't my original intention, but the pros are stacked in BtS' direction, you really can't go wrong with a site that's passionate about putting the SH community first and not their sponsors. That's just a site owner's biased opinion though "

Never thought that, and have no doubts about your good intentions for the community, as well as your professionalism.

Now I'm just trying to evaluate between your option ( upload ) or free access. Though it doesn't seem I can do the second one anyway.

I'm pretty much like a brick wall, right ?

Tomorrow between waking up and going to bed I'll send you a PM and we'll get the ball rolling for you. It's so easy to get your stuff on BtS you'll be amazed, believe me, if I can understand it anyone can  I'll set you up in the morning mate and help you out  Take care mate, I'm off to bed!

@ SWCowboy :
Thank you, you're very kind, :D But hold it a bit.
Why ? Well, I sent you a PM where I explain, but it doesn't seem you got it. But may be the PM is your home PC, and you're not home yet... I still have to polish my stuff a little bit.
I won't miss to let you know and will come back to you in due time. Wrote that letter to the person I was mentionning, and send him the CD tomorrow, so he can have a look, and possibly give me a piece of advise.
I still have quite a big Readme file to polish up anyway.

@ SWCowboy :
Well I don't know which would be best in my case, that's the very thing I've been trying to know for a few posts now. :-?

I have a NETWORK SETUP WIZARD on XP. But no joy there ,when I select my folder, clicking on "Properties" and then "sharing", the "share this folder on network" is not clickable. Also went into "my network places/entire network/Microsoft windows network/workgroup" I get a message saying Workgroup is not accessible, you might not have permission...list of server not availiable". That's probably because I'm on a LAN ?

I don't know if that's the reason ?? and if can I can go round the problem ?
Wouldn't a free access thing be the best way, rather than uploading and having to reniew the files from time to time ?
I have tried Torrent, but that looks so b****y complicated, and didn't understand nothing... JMV

Network sharing has nothing to do with uploading files to a server. What you're looking to do is use an uploader or an FTP to get your files on the web.

@ SWCowboy :

I know it's a different method, but my point was :

Would Network Sharing be the best way, in my case ? rather than uploading and having to reniew the files from time to time, as would be the case with bts or Filefront.
That's what I'm trying to know.

I have a NETWORK SETUP WIZARD on XP. But when I select my folder, clicking on "Properties" and then "sharing", the "share this folder on network" is not clickable. Also went into "my network places/entire network/Microsoft windows network/workgroup" I get a message saying Workgroup is not accessible, you might not have permission...list of server not availiable". Is it because I'm on a LAN ?
I don't know if that's the reason ?? and I don't know if can I can go round the problem ?

So, IF Network sharing is best for me, I guess I should use Filezilla, but my problem is, I'm not sure how to handle the setup. As I said in my post #69 and #73, The main thing I don't know is :

Screen 4 :
How server should be started = default
Port Number : Should I put the same number or choose another ?
(between 1 and 65535) ?

Screen 9 :
Server Address = Should I input the number 127.0.0.1 as suggested ?
or my server address ( which I don't know where to find )
or Subsim address ( which I don't know where to find )

+ Screen 10 and 11.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To recapitulate, I'm trying to know ( before I finish my stuff ) what would the best system in my case ???
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry insisting and repeating myself but... I can't seem to get the answer.

Ok, Kaleuns, I understand, when you're too noob, and can't understand the basics, and ask stupid questions, get out of heeere !
Sorry, for having bothered many. ( It's a bit of a complicated thread to follow, I know, plus I had a purely settings problem right in the middle )
I'm as much tired as you all are following it, trying to make myself understood, and we'll see what "some" member (to which I have sent my DVD ) will say about the therelevency of the whole thing... ( DVD sent today )
So, Waiting for his answer... Ho !, this guy knows...he tells me...
But To you personaly, SWCowboy, Thank you for having been so patient, will get back to you, when I ever get a clearer wiew about what's the best way.

Der Teufel sei loss, Brudern !! Himmelarsch und Wolkenbruch !! Fette Beute alle !!

Love you all, had a good time here.
