Singapore
Game version: IL2:1946 - 4.09m (Modded, using the Unified Installer Version 1.0)
Current Campaign: singapore 1941
Flight Schedule: Monday, Wednesday (Probally), Friday
Time of Flight: 22:00 - 22:30 GMT+1
Instructions:
We seperate the pilots in 2 wings, Red wing and Blue wing playing as the Allied forces. We seperate ourselfs too in the Channels on Teamspeak to prevent radio confusion inside each wing, for the ones with a Microphone we shall instruct you how to Whisper to the other channel to give the necessary information in the Sortie.
The 2 Wing co-operate, with eachother but also the individual pilots in one wing have to co-operate to make the wing a powerfull fighting force.
I thereby turn also the Free camera off, so we are more aware of our surrounding then we usual do. Also all pilots of a wing take the SAME aircraft preferably by the Number/letters too (like RAF uses A,B,C)
In a wing you have a 1 Wingleader and the wingmen.
the wingleader has to inform his men of his Engine management Throttle, pitch, Wep On/off, Radiators so his men can keep up with his phase.
this also includes planned Hight, and heading (usually the waypoints)
in a fighters versus fighters the wing will most likely engage in a Circus try to cover eachother. but if there is a chance to attack unescorted bombers try to plan your attack all together.
so all in all, Teamwork all the way this time chaps!
Wings:
(these wings are by default, may there be a issue with the amount of players we may adjust the wings in order to balance both)
Red Wing -
HunterICX - Wing leader
Oberon - Wingman

Blue Wing -
Fincuan - Wing leader

Somewhere in France, 1940...

Dear Mum
I arrived 'ere in France four days ago, it's a funny sort of place, the people drive on the wrong side of the road, but Jerry wants it real bad. I've been assigned to 1 Squadron, our leader is a gent called Hunter, nice chap, looks a bit like that chap in that Frankenstein film I told you about. I'm his number two, there's another chap, Fin and an American loan pilot Taskforce, nice chaps, they fly Spits.
I was awfully anxious to get up and give Jerry what for, so imagine my delight when we got a scramble to escort some Blenheims. Hunter and I took up our Hurricanes, lovely old kites they are, anyway, we escort the Blennies to their target at [CENSORED] and they dropped their load. Meanwhile Taskforce and Fin in their Spits spotted a gaggle of 109s, so once we saw the Blennies safely on their way we dived down to have a go.
Hunter claimed a 109, I can confirm, I saw the smoke out of its engine! I took a couple of shots, but he did most of the work, I was busy watching his six o clock. Unfortunately a couple of Jerries got past me and he took a couple of hits, nothing too bad, these kites are awfully tough, but he was swarming in Jerries so he turned back for home. Something wasn't right with his control stick though, so his landing was a little rougher than normal. Hopefully the fitters will sort that out, Taskforce made it back alright, although his Merlin engine was a little worse for wear. I'm afraid Fin got shot down, I'm not sure if he's alright, they haven't told us yet.
I'm alright though Mum, there were some 109s over our airfield, and the old Archie was banging away at them, so I decided to join in the fun. But Mum, those 109s are fast little blighters, I gave him a couple of extra holes but he was able to get away, slippery little fish that Jerry is.
I'm afraid I might have also done my bit for Anglo-French relations, but their man in the control tower Mum, oh he is annoying. I tried to tell him to be quiet in French, but I don't think he heard me.
Anyway, better dash, we're taking the car into Bastogne to take a look at the town, hope Dad's ok.
Love Oberon

Hehe nice letter
I'm afraid I wasn't shot down though, I destroyed my engine by pushing the stick forwards and had to bug out.
I ditched on our side of the lines, but those damn Jarmins strafed and killed me.

Dear Mum
I'm writing to you from a hospital in Bastogne, now don't worry, it's not too bad, just a few bumps and scrapes, the Doctor says I'll be back in the air in no time. I wish my Hurri was that easy to fix, I tell you Mum my fitter is in a right funk, he comes out with a dustpan and brush every time I come home now!
Another chap from the Commonwealth joined us today, name of Raptor, I'm afraid Fin is still missing, they found his burning Spitfire five days ago but no sign of a body, the ground had been strafed a lot by the 109s, bloody butchers, so we're not that confident, but you never know, he might surprise us. Tangled with Jerry a couple of times, Taskforce and Raptor took a chance to fly with the French the other day in their Hawks, they swear that they're never going to do it again. Taskforce had a nasty fall courtesy of Jerry but Raptor managed to take a 109 with him, so that's always good.
Kratos, a northern chap, he was our number three, but sadly Jerry got him too, somewhere over St Vith way, I followed him down and saw him crashland ok, I hope he's alright and Jerry will treat him properly.
On the way back from escorting Kratos my kite caught a packet from some Jerry Archie over one of their airbases, one of my elevators got shot off and my Merlin was riddled. I managed to get her most of the way back, it sounded like a had a canary trapped in my engine! Unfortunately she gave out just short of the airfield, I made it onto the taxiway (some Blenheims were using the runway) but rolled and had a little fire, I wish there was a tool for ditching the fuel before a landing like that ((Oleg...)) but I got out okay with just a couple of scorches...sadly my kite was a write-off.
They got me a new one though for the next go, and Raptor and Taskforce tried the Blenheims, they got caught out by some 109s though, so our wing came to the rescue, we stumbled across some Junkers and tucked in, Hunter hit one but then collided with the wreckage of the second. All I heard from him was "Oh [censored]" and that was it. He might have gotten out, I didn't see, time will tell when I get out of this hospital.
I followed a bunch of dots in the sky that turned out to be Stukas! They're faster than they look, it took me ages to close and when I finally got within firing range, do you know what happened? My Merlin stalled, of all the times! So I had to abort and return to base, I thought that I'd be gliding again, but thankfully she started up again.
You might ask, if my kite was in good shape, why am I in hospital? Well, Mum, some joker has decided to build two storey houses right next to the taxiway, and guess who clipped one while landing?
It has its up-sides though, these French nurses are awfully pretty, I'm going out to the riverside now with Marie, so I'll wrap this up and write again soon.
How's things in Blighty anyway? Love to Dad.
Love
Oberon

Dear Mum
Finally bagged myself a Jerry! But not after giving my poor old fitter another nervous breakdown!
Hunter had survived his mid-air collision, he was in good spirits as we took to the sky again, it was one of those slow days, you know the type Mum, where everything seems to drag past like a slideshow. Hunter said something about the Gods downloading something, but I'm not sure what he meant. Anyway, no sooner had we taken off into some horrible weather (I thought France and Belgium were supposed to have nice summers? This was like a holiday at Skegness!) then we ran into some Stukas and Ju-88s, twin engined bombers those 88s but those Jerries throw them around the sky like fighters, I don't know how they do it.
All this cloud though meant that it wasn't long before I lost Hunter, he went off and did quite well for himself, I found Fin and Taskforce in their Spitfires and followed them for a while and then stumbled across Hunter again. We closed in on some Stukas who were targetting our base, ironic really, they lead us home. We curved into the cloud to get them but as we did, Hunter hit one in the cloud and went down, he got out alright though but it was a horrible prang. I got up behind one of the Stukas and emptied my entire magazine into him, but he must have been too far away because it didn't do anything. His rear-gunner on the other hand shot up my cockpit, busted my flight panel and destroyed my elevators. I wasn't going to be able to land in that shape, so I had to bail. The fitter reckons that Hawker are going to run out of Hurricanes if I keep this up, I think he's joking...
Second sortee, we went up and headed out to find some Stukas over Bastogne, we found them just fine and both myself and Hunter got a kill each before we ran out of ammunition and had to come home. A group of Heinkels and 109s had had a spot of fun over our base, Fin and Taskforce had engaged them with their Spitfires, Fin did well but Taskforce caught the raw end of a 109. I tell you something about those Stukas Mum, something a bit fishy in my opinion, you see popular habit has us go at the Stukas from [CENSORED] and [CENSORED] but somehow the Jerries can pivot their guns downwards through their plane to shoot at you. I told the group CO but he doesn't believe me, called me a Flanders Stuka Murderer, whatever that means. One good thing about the He-111s visit though is that they demolished those two-storey houses I crashed into the other day. So hopefully I won't run into those again.
Hope you're in good health, funny you meeting Uncle Anthony again, send him my best regards.
Love

Dear British Comrades,
I couldnt help to notice all those holes shot in my Steamer, one of your Spitfires opened fire on my train. How can he miss such big red star on the front of the steamer who 15 underfed gulag workers paid there life for painting it!
The attack scratched the paint of my beloved Steamer, made holes in it....and it killed some insolent idiot officers (who I planned to execute anyway) Now I would like to invite this Pilot Fincuan who I guess was flying the Spitfire in question to one of my Paradise resorts in Siberia.

Dear Mum
Guess what? Back in hospital again! I know, I know, I've always been clumsy but this one really wasn't my fault...ok...maybe it was a little, but I stray ahead of myself!
The squadron was full today, and a new American pilot joined us called Cobra, he took a Blennie with Raptor and joined Fin over Frankfurt way, with Fin being the only Spitfire in the whole of Belgium it would seem.
Us Hurricanes, on the other hand, Hunter, Kratos, Task force and me decided to follow our nose and join Fin in his battle against the inevitable 109s.
I was somewhere in the back of the formation for a change, and started rather disorientated, like my world was upside down. Soon corrected myself and we took off. Hunter spotted two contacts, nice juicey Ju-52s, I took a burst into one and he went down, I'm not sure who out of our Hurris got the other. Raptor got attacked, we think by 109s, he got away but his aircraft wasn't feeling right, he suspected rudder damage. I spotted him from a distance fighting off a 109 and came in to protect him as he RTB'd. He asked me to take a look at his rudder, so I swung in behind and slowly crept up to his wing to take a look, and was able to confirm his fears that he had no rudder. He managed to land it though! As did Cobra, and I came in behind them, meanwhile, Taskforce, Hunter and Fin were grabbling with 109s far in the distance, Hunter was taken down, but I dare say he'll be back, nothing keeps him down for long. Kratos soon joined him.
As I was circling around our airfield waiting to land, I heard gunfire and saw explosions near our runway, I landed and then had a look around, and Mum, some cheeky Jerry had put an artillery piece on the crest of a hill no more than half a mile away and was shooting at the airfield! The cheek of it all!
Once I'd spotted the culprit, I turned my engine back on and took off from the taxi-way, determined to teach that Hun a lesson in battlefield manners. Unfortunately I tried to maneuver just a little too soon after take-off, stalled and came back to earth with a large bump.
So, I'm back with Marie again, sadly we can't go to Bastogne...ruddy Jerries have got it. Still, I'm sure we'll push them back again! They'll never get into France!
Hope things are well your end.
Love

T/F was just doing what a normal 13 year old kid would do.. he got excited and was showing off, but he picked a bad night to do it, he cut in on my approach for landing (should have fired on the tw*t then);) then he proceeded to circle the airbase and make strafing runs, and decided to fire on me while i was parked up and ready to go for a cup of tea... You sound like Fin, here's me lined up ready for take-off when
VVVVVROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!
WTF?!!
A Spitfire flew over me at about thirty-forty feet.
"Was that you Fin?!"
"Me? No...no...no..." *looks innocent in his cockpit*
Haven't got the umph to write a proper letter, it doesn't help that I'm in Stalag Luft at the moment  First run through I strafed up a Stuka which had been damaged by someone, I think it might have been Fin, and it started spewing black smoke, so I expected it to drop as I overtook it...I suspect it didn't because less than ten seconds later something took my port wing off... :hmm:
Second mission I dived into a gaggle of 109s, took down one and then lost my tail

Was a tad messy missions, atleast from my point-of-view.
First sortie, I was tasked to escort Stukas or Heinkels, gave them the finger and headed with my flight to the allied airfield to catch the landing Blennies who attacked one of my bridges. Raptor was kind enough to use his nav lights & smokes so I saw him from afar and lined up to bounce him. Got a good burst on him, looped around and flew past him and saluted as he was crashlanding. Some twut AI shot his plane while on ground, so no kill for me. Spotted 2 C47's over the airfield and bagged them, I think I got another blennie too as my total score was 60pts. Anywho, I was out of ammo and headed back to base. Nice smooth landing. Parked my plane and saw 4 dots coming from the west, at first though they were my flight but then the AA started to fire. SCRAAAAMBLEEE!!!! Off I went and got immediately jumped by AI and I think Fincuan(?). Got hit after hit, and just as I pressed the bail out key, my pilot got hit... tossers...
The second sortie began with me chasing Raptor over St.Vith, later on catching up his Blennie and peppering him full of holes. I think I downed few frenchies too, but along came Hunter in his Hurricane and ruined my day. My plane took some damage I think as it started to feel glumsy, so I headed for the clouds and bailed out.

Here comes Hunter To Ruin your daaaaay!
:p
Well, I must say the fist sortie was rather O.K, took the stuka's long enough to show up so I could have a shot at them.
the 2nd sortie, flying into that slaughterhouse dominated by the 109's I was looking around me to find a suitable target, tried to chase some but failed to catch up and didnt want to lose my altitude advantage by chasing these diving 109's far away where other 109's where present as well chasing 1 hurricane/spitfire, till I saw a lone one chasing a smoker. getting closer I noticed a different skin from the default..:know: well look we have there closing on his six till his plane got big enough I decide to ruin his chase, and succeded making him bail out..but the AI wasnt happy with that and made me pay dearly on my way home by shooting off some parts of my Hurricane.
landed roughly tearing the aircraft apart but still alive.

Yup, one moment the Germans were still in their old Bastogne-Houffalize-Manhay line, the next they were already outside the west side of the map with only isolated pockets near the Antwerp bridge and the Manhay airfield (I'm surprised this one wasn't overrun, actually)
(I'm surprised this one wasn't overrun, actually)
Aye, that's weird tbh. Tho, I saw some defences there still when I visited the AF trying to find you on the last sortie. Just south of it, there's some bunkers, dont think anyone have blown them up. I was tasked to bomb them earlier on, but I went for the airfield instead.
Raptor1
11-30-08, 09:24 AM
Even if there were defenses, I would expect the Germans to just roll right through the place, they did the same thing to Houffalize (~3 Red Tanks vs. ~10 Blue Tanks + field guns)
Ah, well, I guess they just let us keep the airfield for the sport of shooting us down

Fun sorties last night. It was especially refreshing to fly the Stuka and actually survive. Me and Cobra did that twice, the other flying and the other gunning, and raped two airbases in the progress. The dogfight that followed, oh well... :rotfl:

I find that the Stuka, as long as it does not have to resort to it's secret Flamethrower attack and afterburners-of-escaping, is a very accurate bombing platform (Assuming you don't dive from too low)

Yup, the sparkles when hit by MG have been there. I had a few occasions last night where I shot my enemy from uncer 50m, so I got a good view on them. They are the default ones. I remember that the cannon hits have been modified, but not sure if it's included in the unified installer.
EDIT: Oh wait, now that I think of it, not all MG's had those sparks, now all have, so yes, they have been modded for all MGs.

I'm pretty sure that the sparkels have been there way before the mods came out. I even would go so far as saying they have been there in Forgotten Battles and maybe even in the original Il2.

We need Hunter's word on what he wants to do about it.

Our BoB missions take like 45min and we hardly see anyone, depending on the PAcific mission, it shouldnt take any longer.
you should at least have a minimap , otherwise it's impossible to find your way back, in real time the pilots have a map to

Was it a frech movie?`I rememver the Pianist having that same actor? A young boy is with the giy and in the very end the "pianist" get's shot?
Ah, shame if we don't continue, but understandable. I was just getting used to my old Hurri. Tried my Battle of Britain campaign I downloaded from M4T (I forget the name of it, Hurricane summer or something I think) intercepted a flight of Stukas harrasing a convoy, got one claim, RTB'd and found on finals that I had three fleas shadowing me. The following conversation went a little like this:
"Red Flight loiter here."
"Roger that, Red Two loitering here."
"Red Three holding position."
"Red Four patrolling here."
"This is Red Four, I've been hit!"
"Red Three, Mayday, Mayday"
"Red Four watch out you're shooting one of ours!"
"This is Red Two, I've been hit, I'm going down!"

Time to get the show back in the air again,
Battle of Britain will be skipped, there is nothing on the web that replaces this campaign so here's a list to pick out (1941 campaigns)
Barbarossa 1941 Fincuan
Crimea 1941 Task Force
Finland 1941 Fincuan
Guam 1941
Hawai 1941 Dowly
Kiev 1941 Xabbarus
Leningrad 1941 Raptor1, Task Force, Tarjak, Xabbarus
Lvov 1941 Oberon
Murmansk 1941 Kratos
Normandy 1941 Tarjak, Kratos
Riga 1941 Oberon
Singapore 1941 Raptor1, Tarjak, Fincuan, Oberon, Kratos, Xabbarus, Dowly
Make your choise (you may vote 3 different campaigns) the campaign with the most votes will be played.
Flight schedule, the days and time we fly will be known after the campaign has been picked.

Lenengrad
Crimea
(third pending) might keep with two.
Normandy
Singapore
Leningrad

Barbarossa, Finland and Singapore
Hmmm, trouble with Finland is, as Dowly pointed out, it's shoot down the same three bombers every mission, ala Battle of France for the Lolwaffles.
Hawaii 1941 sounds nice, but depends on the amount of long distance flying involved. It's a shame there isn't an RAF desert campaign or something out in Greece, guess I like my odds slim
Anyway, getting back on subject, my choice:
Singapore 1941
Riga 1941
Lvov 1941
Murmansk
Normandy
Singapore
But really i dont give a t*ss let's get something started again,or i'm going to need some good old WD40 (fine lubricating oil) to get the damn wheels to move. ;) come to think of it, I might need some... to get me moving again

Singapore 1941 is the clear winner.
about the flight schedule, not planning to overfly ourselfs like the last time (almost every day)

1. Kratos, Fincuan, Dowly
Monday
Wednesday - Maybe :hmm:
Friday

2. Oberon, Xabbarus
Tuesday
Thursday
Friday - Maybe :hmm:

I'll go for Option two as well.
At least I'm already practiced at setting fire to Zeros in a Hurri...just have to do it to the enemy now, and not my own team...
friday i'll have my new PC , maybe i can join next week :)

HunterICX
Fincuan
01-13-09, 12:46 PM
It is possible to set an individual "Max action radius" for each squadron, but there's only so much you can do with it. If the action is gonna be at place X and the nearest airbase isn't within a squadron's action radius, there's nothing DCG can do but make you fly those extra kilometers.
Dont count on the action radius thing, it hardly ever makes any difference.

01-13-09, 01:30 PM

The thing I dont like about jungles it that the planes just explode if you tap a tree while attempting to land, and if your too low, you cant safely bail out.
Simply, theres no where to land your plane on its belly safely.
Well, considering the theatre of operations and the enemy, I'd rather not bail out unless over friendly lines :hmm: Likewise it is more honourable to die than to be captured, etc.

You nae missed much this time ;)
First mission was general transfer, Buffalos and Blennies for all. Hurris were on a airspace guarding mission so in order to get the first mission over and done with we skipped those. Oberon crashed on take-off, Hunter nearly did, no real idea what happened after that as I disconnected to make sure it was the plane that was useless and not the joystick.
Second mission was a spectacular raid on one of our airfields. Task force, Raptor, and Hunter took Blennies, Fin and Oberon and Kratos took Buffalos (They stole my Hurris!! :stare: :damn: :nope: )
Raptors aircraft decided to try and wrestle control from him and crash, and Task force relocated his aircraft around the airfield. Lick of paint here and there, some new wings, some wheels, some silver tape, it'll be fine!
Oberon followed Fin to the target, staring into the constant nuclear explosion that was the sun, although it did look a little like someone had pre-empted the Enola Gay.
The RAF airfield Hunter and Kratos were bombing was firing flak at something, and despite the Buffalos best attempts at finding out what that was, there was no sign of the enemy. Obviously the Japanese don't fly in the rain, although something must have been happening because when Sir Schultz started his 'Runway not clear' business, Oberon tuned into Tokyo Rose to listen to Schultz-san, who soon started up his own monologue.
Fin made it down alright, Kratos sounded like he might have slid off the side of the runway, the visibility was terrible so it was hard to see anything, let alone where you're supposed to land. With this in mind, Oberon just 109'd his Buffalo across the runway and left it to Task force to pick up with the other pieces of his Blenheim.
