and open the console using ~ then enter tm to turn off the menus, just don't forget to turn them back on again :D

Sergei, are you using an interface mod there? if so which one?

I also see a backpack mod of some sort

Here's some of the weird stuff you'll find if you pay attention

note how I forgot to turn off the menu :D

Hi KeptinCranky.
I've read your questions.
I'm short on time at the moment.
Will give you a full answer tomorrow :DL

The interface mod is DarNified UI F3.
http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1063937
A very good UI mod, highly customizable, and much nicer than Stock.
Needs FOMM and FOSE to work.

To change the aiming reticule into a dot I used the 'Larger Dot Crosshair' from here
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=240
I found the small one too small to see on my monitor.

And of course the Blackwolf backpack.
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2553
Be careful with this one, if you install the full mod, you get 6 types of backpack in 6 colourschemes, which means when you buy from a trader stocking them you have to scroll through 36 backpacks to get from A to B in their inventory. I found that a real drag!
There is a smaller option in the download to install just the default colour. So only 6 backpacks in trader inventory. More manageable.

F3 is a great game; love the character design and the rather interesting automatic targeting interface. It's a bit cheesy, like Matrix style special effects, but useful when it's late and you're almost fainting and can't aim straight.

But I stopped playing it a while ago - sure its fun but not very challenging at all. Like Morrowind, I found the game world a bit static because everyone simply waits for the player to make her move.

KeptinCranky
02-16-10, 03:23 PM
I'd agree with that, and Morrowind seemed bigger because of the relative distances, no fast travel to all sorts of locations....
it is a bit static, quest-wise, but ever since I installed the FWE mod it's suddenly become a lot more interesting, and a lot tougher to survive, initially one raider with an assault rifle or tommygun can easily kill you in one burst... not to mention a super-mutant...or three...The Pitt was also fairly hard when I went there at level 9 or so, where without FWE it was easy

It's almost GWX for fallout 3 :hmmm:

Sergei, I thought it was darnified... I haven't felt the need for it ever since I got my wide screen monitor, but I'd been considering using that before

I have FOSE and FOMM of course :D

What is FWE like?
Is it mainly a combat mod, or more comprehensive than that?

Snow White Sorrow
02-17-10, 07:40 AM
Oh, thank you so much for the introduction. I love mods like these (and if its new enough I'd even chip in some expertise).

Especially if its something like GWX...

Yeah, my overall goal is the quantum nuka cola challenge. I want to see what the chick does when I get 30 of them. I think I will just pop a bullet into her boyfriend for posteriety reasons. :D

KeptinCranky

FWE is primarily for making combat deadlier, but it has a lot of optional features that can be turned on and off as the player prefers, things like needing to eat drink and sleep regularly, alternate beginnings,

what it does mostly is up the power of all guns in a fairly balanced way and overhauls the damage resistances of armour
... no longer will you be more scared of a radscorpion than a super mutant...

it also adds a lot of weapons (for the gun-nuts among us) and uniqueify the unique weapons like ol' painless, vengeance and such as well as fallout favorites from earlier like the .223 pistol, the 14mm pistol, desert eagle, and so on

One of my favorite features is the fact that I can now use a lot of the junk I find to repair my stuff, wonderglue for example can be used to fix some armors and clothes, scrap metal can be used to make repair parts for weapons, and many of the weapons can now be used to repair different types

another mod that's a must have is the "DC interiors"

Dunno DeMezza, I don't have any of the addons so I can't help.
Hopefully someone else will be along soon to help you.

Just a thought, what are you patched to.
You may have to patched up to 1.7 for it to work.

DeMeza
02-27-10, 02:14 PM
OK - tried to update to 1.7 but when the update reached 100% percent this error appeared:

Fallout3.exe - Ordinal not Found

The ordinal 5360 could not be located in the dynamic link library xlive.dll.

Cannot start the game now.. :damn:

HELP! What to do?

Dammit. I forgot. That is a games for windows missing file.
To get the patch to work properly I had to update Games for Windows using this

I really hope I haven't screwed up your game DeMeza.
I am so sorry.

I was beginning to feel really bad, thought your whole game and all your progress was lost forever.
Glad it all worked out in the end

:haha:

WTH Dowly? :har: Be a slaver pimp!

Dowly
03-01-10, 05:03 PM
Well... my pimping career didn't start too well. My character, BigTittieSlut, decided to save Megatron and in process hire Nova as her first hooker. Then she got bored as she didn't seem to get any caps no matter how kinky she got and went on rampage and killed everyone there. Unfortunately, Nova the Hooker got killed in the following firefight.

Now, with no hookers to work for her and only crabs to show from the work she did herself, she is wandering the wasteland looking for moar hookers.

*sigh* It isn't easy to be a pimp in a post-apocalyptic world... :nope:

Is it easy to add and remove mods from this game?

Kaye T. Bai
03-04-10, 05:01 AM
I heard it can be a spot glitchy in the animations.

It was for me at first on PC, but then I upgraded my GPU and RAM, in that order.

The GPU upgrade didn't do much, but the RAM upgrade helped a great deal across the board. From that assessment, I can make the conclusion that Fallout 3 is a very RAM-heavy game.

I have Fallout 3 on both XBOX 360 and PC, (bought in that order) but the PC version is superior (as always), as the graphical quality is vastly better, and the ability to download user-made mods is a plus. Pretty much the same with any multi-platform video game.

Is it easy to add and remove mods from this game?

DLC, yes. User-made mods, yes and no. Fallout 3 wasn't really designed with user-made mods in mind, so it can take a while going through program folders and files to do so. Not to say that it isn't impossible, because it isn't. I am currently playing the game with several mods, with no problem at all.

Got F3 Game of the Year Edition yesterday - game and 5 addons and patch 1.703 - for 9.99, new&sealed. I think they stamped a wrong pricetag onto it, the other four copies they had in the store all costed 29.99.

Big post-christmas smile on my face. :D

Had many crashes initially, but today updated my graphis driver (from 176.xx to 260.xx :) ) Now it runs like a charm on my old rig, as smooth as Oblivion does.

Much gaming world for very few bucks. Great deal!

Enjoy, Sky! F3 is pure awesome.

Skybird
12-28-10, 02:31 PM
Well, the gameworld may be awesome, but the technical implementation is not. I am not suffering CTDs due to rendering issues anymore since I updated the gfx driver, but I still enjoy many CTDs, mostly when opening doors or boxes. This is easily the most unstable game I played since many, many years. While my CPU exceeds just the minimum specs (P4 2.4 demanded, P4 3.0 I have), RAM (having 2GB) and GFX (having nVidia 7950, 512 MB) are clearly at or beyond the recommended specs.

For 10 bucks it may be considered fine - but I am happy that I did not spend more money on it.

Skybird
01-03-11, 06:59 PM
I managed to drastically reduce the CTDs (whjich locked my system and forced a system reboot). After a lot of research via Google, I tried what occassionally, rarely, was mentioned, that is that deinstalling Live! solved issues for some people. So I did, and found that the game did not start anymore. I reinstalled Live!, but now using a download (not the game DVD)for Live! which maybe is a better, later version. Since then, the number of CTDs has drastically fallen. The game still crashes occasionally, out of the blue, but not often, and certrainly not as often anymore as that the frequency of crashes made it a show-stoipper (which before it was). Also, the system must not be rebooted anymore when a crash occured.

This way now, the game is playable and enjoyable (but still not the benchmark of stability). I like the game, though I liked Oblivion better due to the romantic forests, it's special charm and lovely music, and the more diverse light and weather effects. But taken for itself, and regarding the "Omega-man atmosphere, it is a very impressive game indeed.

I pass on any mods, due to the stability issues. I do not want to put the current way it is at risk, making things worse again.

Glad that you got it working. No, you won't see the beauty and charm of Cyrodiil in the Capital Wasteland. F3's landscapes range from the disquieting wastes, to the nightmare interior of shacks and tunnels, and to, in the case of the Pitt, hell on Earth. The atmosphere is one of desperation, and Bethesda did a great job of giving the impression that people are a meal away from starvation. For me, F3 is just so much more evocative than Oblivion; the latter being spectacular in it's own right, but somewhat bland by comparison.

Just to be safe, if I finish the main quest now, with the addons installed (GOTY edition), I can continue to wander around even when "dying" at the end, did I understand that right?

Most inhouse-locations do not have baddies respawning, like in Oblivion, right? What about box contents, ammo?

Have been to Old Olney, btw. Damn place to stay around, with all those deathclaws there. Currently searching for the Rangers in the SouthEast.

Most ammo crates and boxes do not respawn, so in the end game, you'll have to either rely on vendors (Flak 'n Shrapnel's in Rivet City is the best in-game, but let's just say that I can't use them anymore) or mods, for which I use this: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2519

Selected containers respawn. There is another that makes all containers respawn, but that also included the once secure containers in my Tenpenny Suite. Needless to say, I was right pissed when I came back to find all of my cool unique weapons and armor gone. :o

Sure, you can add any lost ammo and weapons that way. The issue with Flak 'n Shrapnel isn't from a game bug; Shrapnel won't have anything to do with me other than Fat Man target practice ever since Flak permanently 'relocated' to Paradise Falls. :D

I did not mind the deathclaws. It was being down in the subways hearing ghoals and other crap. I wear headphones when I play. Being in the subway systems hearing the noise let's ones mind wander. :o
