View Full Version : Why all the XXI mods?

I am curious to know: why are there so many XXI mods? Is the one currently in the game or GWX not accurate? Is there something that everyone is wanting from the sub?

I've never even driven one yet, so I don't know much about the whole issue.

The XXI is an awesome sub but is not available until late in peoples careers. The ones that exist in SH3 and GWX work perfectly but are only available from their historically accurate dates, however a lot of people have used the XXI in single missions and like it.

A lot of modders have their own versions (there are threads referring to it that go back a couple of years) but it's only in the last few weeks that it's come to the front of peoples minds.

The XXI mods out there are great but there are still a few oddities that need addressing, and pooling our resources and brainpower seems to be the way ahead.

Give the XXI a try in a single mission and you'll see what the hype is about!

I've read plenty about the boat around here, and see why it is such a nice ride. What sort of oddities need fixing?

I've always wanted to drive a uboat with battleship guns merged into the conning tower. Man would that look cool! Kinda hard to turn though.

XXI mods - a option for those who like XXI sub - it's simple. :yep:
Most players do not understand how someone can like XXI.

When I took a XXI at first time it was strange feeling. But later...

I like XXI because I may atacking task forse with this boat. I do not need to use periscope anymore. I can chase the lonely tankers underwater. I can go to 3 - 4 months patrols. And You know what? I never let myself feel safe.:yep:

When i atacking a convoy with 10 elite escorts I can be everywhere. :ping:
I love this feeling.
They think I am at the other side of convoy, and they lost ships. When the destroyers dropping bombs on me in the correct place, 2 of them goes to the boottom of the atlantic in the other sector of the battle. And if I start feeling to strong, I have serious troubles belive me. In the waters near the land - serious troubles sometimes:yep:. For me goood mixture.

XXI in 1939 - yes, this is not a historical fact, but also type VII and IX technology was to old for WWII after 42. [a technology from first world war mostly]

But what I know? I'm not a hardcore 100% player.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Everyone of us see this game diffrent, some of us the same, but everyone has right for individual point of view:yep:.

The one issue that is left is trying to get SH3 to generate patrol grids for the XXI.

IXB, 50kts underwater, 70 on the surface. 41 nuclear-torpedos. Deckgun with 4 thousand shells and a rate-of-fire of 300 shells per minute (5 per second). Diving capability of 500 meters, and longer periscope, you can stay at 25 meters deep and peek above the waves. The torpedos can run at 200kts. The nuclear warhead on them can vanish any ship in a radius of 3.000 meters. The fuel lasts twice as long as the IXD2, and the batteries can last so long that the XXI would feel ashamed.

Some details about the Nautilus, just in case you're curious.

Not bad, but not realistic a little. I know. I have no right to say this:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I've tried the Nautilus but lost interest after a patrol - you may as well use a Los Angeles or Akula class and being invincible soon loses its appeal. Having said that, the same could be said about using a XXI in 1939. Each to their own - this is just my opinion.

I think Philip made the Nautilus mod for the BIG UNREAL FUN. The XXI in 1939 is more realistic for me, than IX type with Philips parameters , realy:rotfl:. Technology before WWII allowed for creation something simmilar to the XXI type, but it was not need at the start of the war. But for example: 50 kts for sub, mostly for IX...
But why not if someone like "underwater speedway", or the "80's Cigarette Boat" on the surface:rotfl::rotfl:

Of course!:yep:.I agree with You :yep:. Thomsen's Nautilius mod is "to strong a little" - for me:yep:, that's all, but Philip Thomsen made many wonderfull mods.

But to the point. I am interesting about this patrols grids. How about this problem?
I know - this is not a great problem, but is wonderful, when the all things works good.

We're about to deploy the big guns - JScones (the author of both SH3 Commander and JSGME) has kindly agreed to take a look for us.

...and has responded with the solution, including an attachment courtesy of my Flotilla file creator/editor application. :know:

Unfortunately, I can't find my "Fantasy Flotilla" mod anymore, or I would have just sent that to you...already done and barring some minor tweaking to torpedos, ready to go. Que sera sera. Anyway, you should have enough now to get you going. If not, you know how to contact me. ;)
