I've just recently downloaded the 1.5 expansion. I love the German U-boats, and I'd like to run some missions in one.

I've been a big fan of the NSM mod, but it's not 1.5 compatible. Very very sad. :(

Is there a mod that brings natural sinking mechanics to the U-boat campaign without going to a super-mod? I'm not really interested in going to that extreme yet, I just want to watch ships sink for now.

Thanks.

((I did do a search, but I only came up with 1.4 compatible mods, or mods posted prior to the 1.5 patch, and I don't want to jack things up without knowing for sure what works.))

Not yet. The Real Fleet Boat Team is real busy (everything they do is real) right now, but they do have plans to release a stand-alone version of Real Sinking Mechanics, or whatever they want to call it. Whatever they call it, it will be Real™.

This is just a guess, but I bet they will wait until they have the immediate release of the New RFB running very smoothly, then they will start work on the warships' sinking behavior. Once they get that, and release an update for RFB players, I'll bet they release the whole Real sinking Package as a stand-alone.

It's more important to get it right than to get it fast.

Yeah, I've read through the RFB manual a few times now, trying to decide if I want to install it or not. I like most of what they've done there, but there's a few deal-breakers. It's a little too real, and the rig for depth charge workarounds turn me off.

If/when I can get the stand-alone damage model, I'll certainly be a happy camper. Until then, I'll just have to be satisfied with all these fragile cargo ships that crack apart when I put one under the keel. Very annoying. I thought American shipbuilding was better than this.

I still have it enabled from my 1.4 days...I don't have problems with it....

Fortunately, NSM doesn't crash the game or anything. When it encounters a ship that is not in its database it merely sinks in the stock manner. There are some pesky smoke columns that might follow your sub around the ocean, but no real deal breakers. When the RFB Team gets done it will finally be time to dump NSM. In the meantime it is save to use, but NOT on top of RFB.

RFB's sinking mechanics mod will completely overwrite NSM, so it's completely pointless to use both mods together.

Thanks for that information. I will reinstall the NSM mod then, and happily go about my way sinking ships.

EDIT: If it only works for "modeled ships", and uses Stock for "unmodeled ships", am I SOL in my U-Boat campaign? That was my main purpose...
