Hey folks , here for your surface ship playing pleasure is a fully functioning fully damage modeled (almost :|\\) playable version of the IJN Yamato.

First off I take no credit for getting her initially playable , I have mearly alltered the systems and given her a working damage model , with out further ado!

Damage screen all working :rock:

As this is a beta there are afew small niggles:

. I cant get the radar working for some reason , I 99% sure all the systems are there for it to work but for some reason it wont.
. When your engines get destroyed your top speed will decrease but you can still move
. Finally ive been having issues with flotation , Ive found that if you get much flooding you send to list more than I think you should. Anyone with expertise in this area and is willing to help let me know.

Hey guys ive been doing alot of testing and with help for the guys here on the sub sim forums (esp. Mikyal) Ive managed to get a much more realistic flooding mechanic.

You sink much more slowly.
Flooding times have been increased and will affect you less than before (fixing the if you flood you sink issue)
Ive changed the zone file to flooding is only effected by the 3 compartments that you can see , engine room , lower decks and radio room. Hopefully this should give you a better idea of how badly your flooding.
The radar issue has now been fixed!

I have changed the way you take damage trying to make the ships eventual demise based on sinking rather than loss of hull hp , to this end i have made the hull hp very large and made the crush depth low, so once you sink you will die quickly

Planned changes:

Im hoping to add more compartments to the ship so an even better flooding representation can be achived , as well as more realistic systems and things such as damageable fuel tanks , and possibly magazines :rock:

Hey folks , new version out with a couple of tweaks:

Firstly ive made it so it should be RFB friendly (ish) Ive been playing and not had problems ... yet :p. I recomend you play with RFB actually as the improved visual and sounds effects really add to things.

Secondly ive rebalanced the compartment flooding , I was having a problem where if the radio room flooded at the rear you when down like a tonne of bricks. Hopefully this has fixed that so you will list abit but not go down to the degree of before. Now flooding in any one compartment wont sink you but any more and you could be in for prblems unless its fixed fast! :arrgh!:

Shes german campagin ready , I use stock 1.5 with pe4 and rsm classic and all works smoothly. I have now managed to fix the radar bug and will upload a fix asap. Yep i used the ai yamato aa gun fix. Its amazing seeing them go off at night!

As long as you install it last you should be fine , as the zones file i used is included. There was a bug with the playable pocket battleship where using rfb the crew disappeared so im not sure if the same will happen here

Same bug unfortunately. It doesn't work over RFB. No crew, noone to shoot the turrets, the ship won;t move. It's a ghostly Yamato :)

Be careful with that one, it works, but if you do it too many times in a row without completing a mission or at least sink something they will retire you. Doesn't happen all the time but I have had it happen on the third "end Patrol" 4 times during some testing. (Not with the Yamato, but I assume the same could happen) Just some info.

So you might want to try to get some essential crew on board on the first and second times, then do a mission and finish the next time you dock.

I've done it 3 times in a row, and played the campaign. With a minimum ghost crew I managed to play and sink some American destroyers.

I miss the UZO, there is no compass :D:D, I just use the binoculars, but you have no idea about the bearing. All the enemy ships engage me from much further than my gunners do, It;s fun anyway :D:D, I rammed some destroyers like they were some dinghies.

Ill try and get a UZO on at some point , but atm the floatation issues are more pressing :damn: . Despite what i said before damage to engines does affect your speed. Ive not had any problem with any ships engaging me 1st (on a good day u should be able to shoot around 10km) Could be due to your skeleton crew? :hmm: Ninja edit The bino's should have your bearing on them ;)

yeah, unfortunately any playable ships made are incompatible with RFB.

in all of my cold war sub mods, i would justload up the boat with all the crew there, save, and reload the game, and do it over...

not too much work for the result!

well, i would really suggest getting JSGME.

it makes everything hassle-free, no need to backup, nothing, just throw it in your MODS folder, which it creates, and activate it, and go, if it dont work, unload it. done
easy pie, as a few of my friends say.

almost forgot, PE4 is an ENVIRONMENTAL modification by Kriller2 (props dude!) that makes many of the games environmental (sea, sky, land, i think) aspects more realistic. i highly suggest D/Ling it

1.- Para Realizar el Tiro Manual se Debe Calcular la Distancia del Blanco, por el Mapa de Ruta.
No Existe un Director de Tiro...
no asi como el SH III + GWX. Donde Existe un Director de Tiro,
para Calcular la Distancia y Asi Ajustar la Elevacion...
2.- Los Grupos de Batallas se Escapan... no Existe Señal de Socorro... para que Acudan a Prestar
Ayuda... como lo es en el SH III + GWX...

Quizas sea que Tienen muy Pequeña Estructura...

Putted the mod to the right.
Opend Mission editor.
Saw at german sub the yamato.
Putted it in whit human control.
saved. (battle of samar btw)
Opend game.

just finished a patrol in the yamato, (made a dark skin just cuz i can) and i raided Darwin harbor, and thank heavens i didnt have to load it up with men...:up:

looking forward to see what else you can do on the SWMT

Very cool looking makes it look stealthier. I wonder if the game takes into account that darker colors are harder to see and brighter colors are easier to see during the night but I highly doubt that it does.

NSM4 Classic, PE3,RFB and RSRDC_RFBv15.

Ive added the yamato last and it works fine.. for the most part. tends to crash a bit when I assume i am being sunk.

I ran into a rather large US taskforce and it was great, Shells flying everywhere.
1 US destroyer rammed me and was kind of sliding along the side of me when it just crashed to the desk top.

Alot of fun tho.. :D

Yeah the AI will need to be tweaked when those big surface mods go live. Right now the DDs think you are a submarine and attack you as if you were-thus the "ramming" attempts. You can even hear them pinging when they get close.

all of those mods are conflicting with each other....
RFB uses a better version of NSM, if you don't like how the mechanics work in RFB, its understandable, however, this will mess up how the other ships act in the game as far as collision mechanics go, it will also mess up the mechanics of the yamato herself.
RFB also has PE4 fully integrated. have fun!
the settings PE3 uses are different than the RFB "historical" settings. it has PE4 rigged for RFB so you dont lose historical accuracy, which i'm sure you want.

EDIT: ivank, it dont matter if you are a PT boat, sub, or a superbattleship, destroyers will attack you.
lets not forget the "tin can" attack on a battleline of nip cruisers and managed to sink or damage them all?
maybe have a shadowing option open so they stay out of your gunnery range? i love having Yamato's 18 inchers at my fingertips (evil laugh here)
but they are useless against a destroyer watching you outta range

To be honest , whilst slaughtering convoys looks pretty its not really how the Japanese used their bb in ww2 (the germans initially yes). It is fun to fight task forces , and if they include the newer bb (iowa , KGV etc) they will give you a serious run for your money. As its is entirly possible to take an unlucky hit to the engine room which will knock out all your engines and your fuel. I do take your point though, this was ntended as an excersise in making surface ships more playable. The next step (for the campgaign anway) is in manipulating the controlable units and making more realistic objectives for the BBs such as attacking task forces (with ai backup) and possibly support simulated landings and that kind of thing. There still some very good missions with this ships in mind , and a couple written for peabodys fuso which with the permisison of the author ill post that have been modded for the yamato. :up:

hmmmm, i am writing an alternate-history book about the yamato going off on its own after 1942 (because there is no way we would suspect such a thing) and just go about blowing the s*** out of everything...it will still explode in the end...

It is remarkable to see this splendid ship in game, indeed the IJN doctrine for BB was fleet to fleet that was their hope all thru the war, but they never really got a chance to see that happen as they had eliminated the BB squadrons that they had planned and wargamed against for years at Pearl. And by the time there were significant Allied BB assets in the Pacific the IJN BB fleet was decimated and tactics had changed dramatically due to the carrier task force coming to the fore in naval to naval planning. The IJN even had some very strange hybrid conversions part carrier part BB. Remarkable times.

The final run of the Yamamoto was the IJN's final refusal to accept the deep change in the make up of successful surface combat, tho the BB lingered in the hearts of the Big Gun admirals even in the USN to see the New Jersey and Iowa return to service for one last curtain call, though partly altered to be missle platforms.

This and the other IJN BB's and the USN Iowa and I think i saw a Repulse but it may be for 1.4 and unplayable....there is hope still for some heavies to get into it. Is there a KGV? I saw that mentioned, i suppose that is in the game, but not playable ....

anyway, this is very wonderful to see, a magnificent ship indeed.

how do i add the japanese flag to the ship? i think it makes the ship more realistic.
or what about the sign on the bow of the yamato does anyone have an idea to put it on?

Tom - great work, downloaded this and am enjoying using it. I have also downloaded many of the other playable surface ship mods. I have extensive modding experience with Freelancer, and am trying to learn how to contribute to SH mods. I've been looking at how you got the damage models working (which I have to say works really well compared to the other BB's I've downloaded).

From what I can figure, you added some custom zones in zones.cfg ? And the index number of these zones is assigned to boxes in yamato.zon ? For example Box 50 is type 113 which is KeelBB ?
What I'm trying to work out is how these match up to entries in yamato.dat (or dop they ?). I'm guessing the only way to match things up is to extract the 3d model into a 3d tool ?

I'm either looking in the wrong places, or there is much less online information about how to get into the more detailed modding of SH than Freelancer. I'd love to be able to take some of the 3D work people do and finish it off in the way you have done so well. Any chance of any pointers as to how you've done it ??

Before you reply I'll point out my 3D skills are awfull (limited to creating cutom .SUR files for freelancer ships, roughly drawn around the 3D shape of the ship ... essentially just providing a collision object which matches the shape of ships). I've also had some success in touching up FL textures (speciality was creating illuminated textures). I really want to contribute but am struggling to learn.... any answers / help greatfully received :)

The crysanthnum cant be put on as the piece that is uses is use in several place apparently. The dat file doesnt really have anything to do with damage modeling , what you need is in the .upc or .upcger file , each damage box corisponds to a system added there. For example a bulk head id 198 in the upc file corisponds so the damage box with the same id in the zone file. The real trick with damage models is balancing the sinking aspect to be realistic and also balance how each system takes damage.
For the yamato I spent days sitting on a custom mission taking damage from 3 bbs observing till i sunk , then adjusting values till they felt right. At the moment I have a KGV with a working damage model which hasnt been balanced yet :up:

As this is a beta there are afew small niggles:

. I cant get the radar working for some reason , I 99% sure all the systems are there for it to work but for some reason it wont.
. When your engines get destroyed your top speed will decrease but you can still move
. Finally ive been having issues with flotation , Ive found that if you get much flooding you send to list more than I think you should. Anyone with expertise in this area and is willing to help let me know.

Hey guys ive been doing alot of testing and with help for the guys here on the sub sim forums (esp. Mikyal) Ive managed to get a much more realistic flooding mechanic.

You sink much more slowly.
Flooding times have been increased and will affect you less than before (fixing the if you flood you sink issue)
Ive changed the zone file to flooding is only effected by the 3 compartments that you can see , engine room , lower decks and radio room. Hopefully this should give you a better idea of how badly your flooding.
The radar issue has now been fixed!

I have changed the way you take damage trying to make the ships eventual demise based on sinking rather than loss of hull hp , to this end i have made the hull hp very large and made the crush depth low, so once you sink you will die quickly

Im hoping to add more compartments to the ship so an even better flooding representation can be achived , as well as more realistic systems and things such as damageable fuel tanks , and possibly magazines :rock:

Hey folks , new version out with a couple of tweaks:

Firstly ive made it so it should be RFB friendly (ish) Ive been playing and not had problems ... yet :p. I recomend you play with RFB actually as the improved visual and sounds effects really add to things.

Secondly ive rebalanced the compartment flooding , I was having a problem where if the radio room flooded at the rear you when down like a tonne of bricks. Hopefully this has fixed that so you will list abit but not go down to the degree of before. Now flooding in any one compartment wont sink you but any more and you could be in for prblems unless its fixed fast! :arrgh!:

Use program Generic Mod Enabler(JSGME) http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products/jsgme_setup.exe. Download and install jsgme. In game directory you will find MODS folder. Download and unpack this ship in MODS folder, then run jsgme.exe you should see the “yamato”. Activate mod by pressing ">" button. Run the game and in the single mission or career choose Yamato.

Hiya! The yamato looks great and the main guns are awesome but I was wondering about all the port/starboard weapons. Are they all AA? I'm asking because none of them would fire on ships in the one mission I've done so far and there were no aircraft. It made for very slow firing and I had a hell of a time tracking destroyers circling around me. I've played the Bismark and that ship can throw a ton of lead. The side guns will take out destroyers before I can even train the main gun on them! I love the yamato and her 18's but it doen't seem to match up to the Bismark in terms of rate of fire and amount of fire it can throw into a broadside.

PS anybody ever try putting the cannon info from the yamato 18's onto the bismark? I would really like to see what the bismark would be like with 18 inch guns :)

Open the sim for the playable bismark main gun and paste this value into the node for the gun under ammo storage AP 0x184e4d13c98196cc. The gun will then be firing AP round for the yamato

Hi all. Been having a blast trying out all the excellent BS mods but I have one very big problem. I can't repair any damage and my hull integrity gauge is always 000. This happens with all the mods I've tried, Graff Spee, Bismark, Yamato and Iowa so far.

Any ideas on what may be going on? I'm running SH4 with the uboat expansion v1.5

I also remove any mod before I try another one with JSGME to avoid any conflicts.

With the yamato its an intended feature , you can die but only if you sink. Which will happen if you flood too much. I felt that hit points you couldnt repair where a poor way of damage modeling as a ship will continue to fight untill it sinks or its guns are destoryed , not when it run out of hp!

Graf spree is probably the zon file but the others the armor levels are high enough that only a battleship can cause any real damage other than a torpedo. the zon files are not set up with fleet boat zones in most cases.

Tom - agree high hp value gives a chance for the dammage caused to zones to be reflected. What I'm trying to work out now is a suitable hp value such that when your zones take a hammering - you would see between 30 and 40% damage agains the main hull .... to avoid questions / queries like the one above and also to make the whole damage experience consistent.

All others .... patience ... the damage modelling for the TSWSM is coming along nicely, lot's of damagageable / repairable equipment, damage zones which your cause ship to sink slowly and in many different ways. Also different layout of zones for differnet ships and to match a ships topology better than the standard U-boat type zone names. Only trouble is it's very time consuming. I reckon it's around 40 hours to damage model one playable ship.

Great the Yamato is awsome... BIG cannons and tons of AA. In some ways she's poorly armed. There are no middle guns for "rapid" fire; only supercannons :D

Btw in some missions you start underwater or sinking. "normal"

Is the ammunition for each turret separate? If so then it might be the case that you're running out of ammo. I get the feeling that if you sustain a hit, and the ammunition store explodes (without destroying your ship), you lose some of the ammunition for the gun that whose ammo was destroyed.

I only asked because I tried that mod out, and each gun slowly stopped firing. By the time I'd come out of Fremantle harbour >.> I only had two turrets working out of the five. After I went to the mid-ocean refit tanker, and got refitted, the problem disappeared.

Your first post you asked for a file that was not available on filefront and then you found it, no more problem, this is your second post and you complain people don't help?

A lot of members are in areas that this is summer and they go on vacations and spend time with their families since the children are not in school, so a lot of members are not available to answer the questions.

Also you will see a lot of "new" members will post in a thread from over a year ago and want to know why the file isn't available and wait 1 day and complain they didn't get an answer. This thread you are posting in now started almost a year ago in 2008, a lot of members have stopped reading it.

A couple of things I am looking for help on:
1. I am looking to speed up the swivel on the 18" guns just a lil' bit as they seem a bit slow after watching some old clips on them.
2. Also, does anyone have a fix for her 12 - 5" guns? I want to correct mine to engage other ships and not aircraft. Any clues or help on writing this in would be greatly appreciated. :)

If you have the real environment mod , there is a section in there with warships retextured. The skin i used for the yamato is in that. You just need to copy it into the texture folder of the mod and your ready to go

yeah, i was looking at that.

I played a lot more with it and im slightly, SLIGHTLY less impressed.

While most of above deck systems work pretty good, theirs still that problem where, when enough damage is taken, EVERYTHING dies at the same time. The engines, Guns, and bulkheads all die and the flooding starts with seemingly no way to stop it. Also, throughout all battles the pumps and compressor go offline and online many times in a row, and its annoying to keep hearing the same message over and over again. Sometimes i can get flooding to start before everything dies, but it only ever works in the radio room, so i list straight backwards. the list side to side mentioned earlier in the thread never seems to happen. The "holes" that you see when hit by a large caliber gun seems to be limited to 4 Max then no more spawn. How can i fix this? None of the large or small guns besides the flaks ever "die". It would be nice if the broken ones were replaced with a "damaged" model, or, if thats too hard, just remove them. (they got blown off) Finally, If the fires that start when your hit would go out after about an hour or so of game time, that would be cool, its very unrealistic how they burn forever.

P.S. theirs also a weird bug that happens sometimes, i cant figure out what triggers it but it seems to have something to do with being damaged. When it occurs the entire yamato just vanishes and stops and you can still control the engines and "man" the deck gun but the controls dont actually do anything after you activate them. Its weird.

1. If the room gets destroyed everything in it gets destroyed simulating a critial hit!
2. I tried to adjust the repair rate , can be done in sh3 but havnt worked it out in sh4.

4. You cant replace with damaged guns. Also in real life they wouldnt really change much, most of the damage is internal

6. ive also had this problem but only after youve sunk enough to drag along the shallow bottom for along time under time compression.

The TSWSM damage model polyfillers mainly responsible for does work as a more refined vresion of mine. Poly has made damage of equiptment more realistic and now deck guns can be damaged and repaired there are more flooding comartments so flooding is more realistic etc.

I'd like to say thanks to the author for such a great damage model. I'm learning how to make these myself and it's good to know I'm on the right track. Tons of hitpoints, a bit of armor, and a bunch of breakable/flooding stuff. :up:

I downloaded v1.15 of the Yamato.

This mod is only compatible with 1.5 as it uses the German career.

I would strongly reccomend that you get U-boat missions as it allows you to use most mods out there without having to make or get someone to make a dedicated mod for a specific version. It saves much time and effort, believe me.

Now since I have Notepad++ I can now edit the UPC Files to add the Yamato into the game without disturbing my NSS Blackwolf and NSS Red October mods that I have in place currently. Also I plan on inputting the NSS Titan Superfortress and the NSS Shark in my game if the answer is yes.

The Yamato uses the German side wich is only in 1.5. I don`t know what happens when you use a 1.5 mod when playing 1.4 or lower. This issue is something you have get outside opinion on. Axis playable ships normally doesn`t interfere with Allied ships.

It's in the downloads section go into SH4 then graphics mods than ships and it's in there it could also be in gameplay mods though.

Hello.. just want to find out.. the file hosted on subsim.com is v1.2 or earlier.. because i downloaded this mod.. and when i view yamato ingame.. it has unprotected flak guns and somewhat less aa mgs. And how do you replace guns destroyed.. cause one of my flak was destroyed by point blank dd cannons and I can't fix it in damage control...

This ship and the Iowa(the one with a some dmg ability) is all I play in this game.....Still...Im so LAME:) The bismark was pretty good to but I cant use it and the Yamato. Love the Surface Ships!!! Wish it would get updated though:) :rock:

Been a long time since I've poked my head out into a Surface Ship mod.
Only Question I have is how's the Ai's accuracy at Longer Ranges? I'm talking out to 13 thousand plus. I remeber that being my one Sticking point with the Iowa,where the AI couldnt hit the broadside of a Battleship at anything longer that 8 Thousand.
