Hello buddies,

Can anyone help to solve to reduce enemy flights attacking during mission?
It's always can't use the anti-gun on route water !

Many thanks for your help !

Depending on your location and year, constant air attacks are logical. Later in the war as the allies installed radar in AC, not even the dark of night was safe anymore.

There is a fairly easy fix (by adjusting the spawn distance from airbases to 0.1 you should be able to effectively preventing aircraft from spawning) but it will take away the realism of air attack which was a constant factor to U-boats during WW2.

If you're really that annoyed with air attacks, PM me.

Many thanks for your help ! Best to check the Air Coverage on your Map in your Sh3 Box,depending on when you start your career,After 1942 its best to Submerge during daytime,Surfacing at Night would be a better solution, though later on as the campaign comes to an end,You will need to be extra careful,on the Surface at night.:arrgh!:

Aircrafts are not always easy to spot.

ItŽs better to crash dive as soon as the IWO tells you "Flugzeug gesichtet!"

Welcome aboard Kaleun wowo668 http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

Air attacks are pretty unrealistic in stock/vanilla your right....and the weather often prevents you from manning the AA guns.

You have three choices here:

1) Take WB up on his offer

2) Heed Hanomags good advice

3) Try GWX and wish you'd taken up one of the previous two pieces of advice

Well, if you eliminate "air cover", game is not challenging so much...

You can stop engines South of Ireland for a days... and gain renown like Grizzly in a salmon creek...:smug:

If you eliminate or reduce the chance of air attack you remove a lot of the "danger" (fun) from the game.

Hi all buddies,

Thank you for your advises. Of course I do like the game in a much challenging environment, but when your u-boat patroling the water, it appears over 20 fighters & bombers in a hour, it's not make sense becasue I expect a VIIB type sub is not easy be detected in the great Atlantic Ocean, right?

By the way, how to get more renowns, is the partol location is the factors? I shoot all 14 topedores when contact the large convoy, thereafter I just got not more then 1000 renowns.

SH3 is the great game that I love, for me, it's much better than SH4 ! May be I love German navy for WW2. Of course I'm a young guy !! ;-)

Thanks

If you play with a VIIB I assume that you are at the most, in year 1941, when danger coming from the air is far less than in 1943-45. Perhaps you are approaching too much to the british coasts. The more you get near to the enemy coasts, the more enemies you will find, of course.

Concerning renown, what level of realism you use? If the realism level is low, youŽll get low renown also. Or perhaps you sunk a lot of neutral vessels in the convoy!:hmm:

Best regards.

Thanks Klaus,

Yap, I'm in year of 1941. I'm not set the realism at high, just 20% ! I like to sink cargo ships as get more tonages, it's wonderful when contact large convoy, C2 & C3 is the one that I like to get them on the sea bed.
Some protrol missions were set to near British shore, the order should complete, right? In the middle sea, I always face many flighters & bombers attack my sub. Is it reasonable ? In the game, I use some mod thru JSGME, but the skin, super tops, harbour mod etc. No flighter mod in use.

Well, low realism means lesser renown. Concerning aircrafts, 20 planes in an hour is really high. Who knows? Perhaps you were really near to the coast.

And yes, you get extra renown patrolling the Planquadrat specified in your orders.

P.S. As you become more familiar with the game and increase realism with GWX, youŽll enjoy also even sinking a humble coastal merchant:yep: :yep:

but when your u-boat patroling the water, it appears over 20 fighters & bombers in a hour An hour game time or real time? You can't possible have 20 planes per hour game time, because even in '45 I got 1-2. :D

Perhaps you are near a scort carrier or something like this.

i remember a convoy attack and was very difficult for the planes circling the zone, finally i sunk the carrier in a periscope depth attack at night.

As in real life an aircraft makes the submarine life a misery and the best is navigate in deck awash to reduce the dive times.or finally use a snorkel with radar detectors.

Dear Meduza,
I mean in game time, I experienced 7-8 flights attack my sub in a time, then I crash dive and, go up again after few mins, then the flights come again, this time 4-5 !! Sometimes 1-2 flights will crash into the sea that my sub has not shooting them. It's fantastic and make me confuse, I think it's a bud. Frankly, it's so many buds during my several missions (not at the 9 misson since 1939). But my ver is updated to 1.4b.

Thank you

Correct, in stock SH3 there is way too much unfriendly air traffic, than there was historically, especialy in the early stage of war. I tried the stock career once a month ago, and it really scared the sh** out of me.
With that 8 km atmoshphere, horrible crew spotting distance and all of those airplanes buzzing around frequently, makes me feel GWX is much more safer place to be :yep:

I think the trade off as far as stock SH3 is concerned is 'too much air traffic...but easy to shoot down'

Just a little tip.

Remember high TC will lead to less aircraft sightings.
up too 128TC you should not notice any drop off of aircaft sighting as the war goes on.
But any higher you start to have less sightings.

Hope this helps:up:

Rgds,

Again though, that is a consideration in the 'trade off'.

Do you remain surfaced and fight (some players actually 'tweak' the basic CFG file and give themselves extra ammo).....or do you remain prudent and dive upon sighting aircraft (as most Kaleuns did in RL....apart from a brief spell when Doenitz ordered them to remain on the surface and 'tough it out').

The choices are yours to make. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

Yes, I love to fight on the surface & don't wanna dive always when facing too much enemy fighters, how do I get more ammo? do you have any special mod addon ? Thanks for sharing.

Is the ammount and type of ammo in GWX 2.1 historic, or meant to prevent you from fighting on the surface?

Curiosity:

It's been that long since I looked at the ammo levels (most of my installations are 'tweaked' to taste) I couldn't honestly say.

As an example.

There are sources out there that state approx 130/150 105mm shells were carried, but Clay Blair states one particular Type IX carried 355.

Have a look at Uboat net etc and come to your own conclusion. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

Wreford-Brown

'Type VIIB and VIICs carried around 250 rds for the 88mm and about 4380 rds for the 20mm flak gun (or guns)... Later during the war, when the large deck guns were being removed, there was room to carry more anti-aircraft ammunition.'

U-boat Combat Missions, Lawrence Paterson.

Captains could carry additional ammunition if they thought they were likely to need it so tweaking your ammunition levels is well within the bounds of realism. Jim has kindly given us the ability to tweak these values to our own preferred amount.

Thanks guys. I tend to be a good shot in GWX, and make good use of the deck gun in fair weather. Such a captain would surely be entitled to an extra allotment of shells.
