Greetings to fans of the Type XXI (rivet counters and type XXI haters look away now.)
I have been playing around with the Type XXI sub and I’ve got it optimized nearly to my satisfaction. It’s not yet a ‘mod’ per se but for those who may be interested this is the procedure.
For this you will require certain mods listed below.
Timetravellers Mini Tweeker
XXI flak and Battery fix V2 by VonHelsching.
The files modified are:-
NSS_Uboat21.cfg
NSS_Uboat 21.sim
On preferably a clean(ish) install using JSGME enable XXI flak and battery fix.
(This provides a basis for modification)
NSS_Uboat21.cfg Set Surface speed to 20 Kts
Set Underwater speed to 25Kts
Engine Properties :- AllStop=0.00
AheadSlow=0.4
AheadOneThird=0.5
AheadStandard=0.65
AheadFull=0.8
AheadFlank=1.00
BackSlow=-0.26
BackStandard=-0.40
BackFull=-0.53
BackEmergency=-0.66
NSS_Uboat21.sim
Using Minitweeker open the NSS_Uboat21.sim file.
Select Diesel Propulsion Set max speed to 20
Select Electric propulsion Set max speed to 25
Personal preferences :- eng power to 4000
Miles submerged to 250
All above settings are a matter of my personal taste and it’s still w.i.p.
NB an interesting side effect…I set the schnorkel depth to 9m. this allows running with decks awash an extra couple of knots are achieved And allows me to run at 4096 TC @ 19-20 fps instead of my usual 4 !!!.

(now if only I can port a Type 21 into SH4___!!!!!!!!)
