I just realized that all Russian based ASW torpedoes(53 cm and TEST-71M) have only a maximum running depth of a mere 250 m.

This means that in the event of an attack by the Russian, the Los Angeles class or the Seawolf could well evade the torpedo by going deep passing 250 m mark. Could Russian based ASW torpedoes able to acquire and homing on deep diving submarine well past 250 m?

The stock non LWAMI maximum depth of the 53 cm is 1,500 feet or more than 400 m.

Where are you getting these numbers? Clearly, not from DWEdit or from the LWAMI readme.

The UGST (53cm) is rated down to 800m in LWAMI. The TEST, which can be outdived, still gets down to 437m.

It's when I tried to set them to run at depth deeper than 250 m in game, the numbers keep reverting back to 250 m.

Edit: Aaargh silly me. I forgot to set the floor setting. False alarm. Thanks Molon Labe.

How are maximum torpedo depths modeled in DW? As hard numbers or as test depth, with a deeper but random crush depth?

I think they just stop diving at the designated point. I remember in my SCX days watching UGSTs pass slightly overhead deep-diving seawolves--they were homing but wouldn't go deep enough.

Another possibility is that the weapon will just ignore a contact outside its allowed range, which is what happens when you use doctrine language to restrict targets (like an ASUW safety feature).
