May be it's for Google SketchUp ...?
I tried to import this model into 3DS Max 9 using plug-in ColladaMax_FREE_3.05B ... and I have received the submarine taken to pieces which have been far located from each other ... Autodesk .DAE plug-in does not import this model absolutely ...
But you can find this model in VUE format ... :rotfl:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=957896#post957896
and in Maya binary (little bit other model):

Was anyone interested in any of those models? I was able to get the typhoon and akula exported to an obj file with the pro trial version.

Sweet, I really like the look of the Akula. However, the xxiii is also too cool.

Keltos, that really wasn't the PT109. The 109 was painted forest creen with red anti fouling paint underneath. The boat is a PT 103 Class ELCO. The dazzle paintjob was tried but found to require too much maintenence time to keep up. So it didn't last long. Actually it should look more like this 1/20 scale R/C model paint job.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll37/Conrad_B/pt109.jpg

The paint is a little too light though on this model. If you see the movie PT109 with Cliff Robertson, they get the color right in there. I do like the dazzle paint myself, and was going to paint my Dumas 1/20 scale R/C model the same. Too bad they don't make it anymore. It was a great kit with a preformed fiberglass hull. If I ever get the chance to build another one, that is how I'm going to paint it up. In the dazzle camo, as it is just so cool lookin'.

personally I would LOOVE to see the biber as a playable sub and the Carrier as another target!

and more...

I saw the movie Crash Dive filmed in 1943 (I have started a collection of submarine movies ), it starts with PT boats attack and sink a german U-boot, has nice shots of submarines leaving Groton, Fleetboats type S ? have fore and aft tubes, 4 forward.

The models come from a patch of 500+ 3ds models I got, includes airplanes like the catalina etc... but no I-52 submarine ! :nope:

@Gimpy117 : try the Ko Hyoteki then ;) too much work for only two torpedoes I'm afraid.. And people noticed it playing the Ko Hyoteki...

The guns on Shinano (in that model) are pure fantasy.

The IJN had no triple DP mount in a turret, and sinano carried none. She had 8 double 127/40 89-shiki mounts. The triples were the 25mm type 96 that we see all the time.

is the rest useable ? it's not like I plan to implement those models myself, but I have them. I might put some like the Shinano on FF ?

The guns would be removed and placed with the eqp and sim (for firing arcs) files anyway.

When I see stuff like that it makes me wonder about the rest of the model is all :)

Actually, looking at a diagram of Shinano, that model is pretty bad. The funnel is the wrong shape. The gun tubs along the deck are wrong. The rear elevator is the wrong shape.

Still, good enough for SH4, perhaps.

Would it be possible for the model to be altered to be more historically acurate? Its gotta be a good basis if nothing else

Hi, Keltos01.
Do you have Swordfish?

It's not that bad. No one should be seeing the elevator or the gun tub shapes, or the funnel from above from a sub anyway ;)

Afaik sword fish never had floats or it was never widely used as such

Hylander_1314
12-22-08, 09:28 PM
Oh no, there was a floatplane version. But no it was not widely used. Kinda like the Spitfire, and F4F Wildcat / Martlet had floatplane versions. Also the Zero Fighter floatplane version called the Rufe by the US Navy.

The trouble with floatplanes is the drag from the struts, and floats and the extra weight of the structures and bracing to reinforce the basic airframe to support the floats and struts. The success of the PBY Floatplanes the US Navy used, and the one floatplanes used by RAF Coastal Command made the efforts for different designs to at least be tried in that configuration for the possible potential it could prove to have.

The Swordfish floatplane was used if I remember correctly like the Walrus was used. Either set on the water by the ship carrying it, or it could be catapult launched if the seas proved to rough for standard takeoff from the water.
