1800hr, picked up sound contact of 5 warships passing in front, bearing 65. Was unable to close the distance to under 3000 before discovered by escorts, after sinking both escorts using 4 torpedoes, the 2 battleships and one cruiser were moving away fast. Offering very bad shotting angles. Two additional torpedoes at medium range fail to find target.

As the dusk deepened, surface at 13 knot, sight trailling battleship at 4600 meters. Fire 10 shots, making 6-8 hits. Return fire from both battleships begin after our tenth shot. After firing another 7-8 shots, were hit by one shell, cause flooding to 2 compartments. Dived to avoid further damage.

Both battleship are identified at Nelson Class, one of them seem to have a gun turret blown off and suffering numerous hits at water line.

Contact lost after repairs were completed underwater.

No casualties, no major component damaged, will continue patrol.

One 105 mm gun vs how many > 300 mm guns and much more of less caliber?:o

That's what I have always wanted to do, beat a battleship with small 88/105 mm gun.

Your badass

With the schnellboote I can sneak up really close to a British DD without be noticed.

Aiming & loading triple 300mm turret takes time

i think 1 single shell from a battleship can sink easy a submarine.

No need to sink....just pierce the pressure hull and it is no longer a submarine....more a sitting duck.

Trouble is that a Nelson class can do 23kts.....

They wouldn't bother firing the main armament: has 3 twin mounted 6" guns each side, so 6x6" vs your 1x3.5".

Also had a 24.5" torpedo tube submerged on each side, so you might face a torpedo coming back at you....:o

ANY hit from a shell of that calibre (6") would almost certainly leave you unable to submerge, assuming it didn't sink you outright.

As for a 16", one landing within 100m would pobably cause you som MAJOR issues!!!

Aiming & loading triple 300mm turret takes time

according to the USS Texas tour guide.... 14 inch gun reload time is about 45 seconds with a good gun crew.

At D-Day the Texas averaged a volley about every 60 seconds over the course of the bombardment.

so relatively speaking... those big guns load faster than you would think

Are you brave or just plain psychotic? I honestly can't decide. :o

A U-boat running away from a merchant @17 knots is hardly a serious/imminent threat....and a radio signal to any nearby warship or air patrol = Ain't ran away far enough before the party stoppers arrive. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/crazy.gif

I didn't say I sink her... I just hope to land a few lucky shots that will stop or slow the BB down. So I can finish her off with a torpedo at closer range. As soon as their shells start landing next to me, my preudence got the better of me,./'

BTW, the best deck gun duel I have is sinking a flower and a river in one battle without damage to the boat. As soon as I find a way to post the jpg's onto this forum... I will post a threat on how to sneak up on warships with deck gun (before they got radar, that is)

Of course the main problem is that a U-boat's gun would do absolutely nothing of significance to a warship of any decent size, let alone a battleship.

You might cause it some problems due to the crew being incapacitated by uncontrolled laughter, but otherwise.....

I'm just amazed his crew didn't mutiny and launch him out of a tube at those BBs!

BasilY, are you sure you do not have any relatives named, "Bernard"? :p

Still, good work!

Now lets hope BdU doesn't decide to reassign you to Shore Patrol!
