Besides, messing up with SH4 may have given them a lot of new ideas for SH3.

Who said We were messing up?

You?
:nope:

No, I mean the other meaning of "messing", not from "ruining it", but more like "working with" or "looking into".

Like what I say when someone ask "will you fix this?" and I say "yeah, I'm messing up with scene.dat to try finding the solution".

I don't know it there's a better expression for that. Here in Brazil we speak something like that, and I translated the pure meaning of the word, so it might sound wrong. What would be the right expression?

C'mon Privateer, get with the program :lol:

Hi Thomsen

the expression you want is just

"messing with" or "messing around with". "messing up" usually means "damaging"

Can I make a constructive suggestion here? Would it be possible to make GWX' radio messages an optional mod (like the the Lite Harbour Mod for example) that could be enabled by JSGME at the user's discretion? I'm asking this because, like a lot of people, I don't have all that much time to play & while I really appreciate the immersion factor that the messages provide, sometimes I'm just inundated by message after message: sometimes I get 4-5 messages in a 2-3 (real time) period and it gets a bit frustrating slowing to 1x TC every time that a message comes in.

Thanks for listening & like I said before, no criticism is meant.:)

The GWX crew strive for realism and the constant receipt of radio messages is a realistic factor of the U-boat war.

There are a couple of Radio Message Lite mods out there that either cut down the number of messages that you receive or pare them down to the bare minimum. They are easy to install via JSGME and should give you what you are asking for.
One is by emaluzer and reduces the total number of messages to 75. It's at: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=133074

I got the following idea from the tips and tricks thread. I found it quite useful to set a key (in my case Num*) to increase time compression, but repeat as it does it. This means that a quick press (or holding it down) will set you back to high or max compression very quickly. Quite handy to speed things along.

Just saw this..
Great news..

Only thing that worries me IS that gwx doesn't become graphic demanding like wac. As I said in one other thread(:rotfl:) many optional mods for gwx let us, players with low end rigs choose the level of detail we like and in the end can play.. That was one of the main qualities of gwx so far, if I understood gwx manual correctly.. I hope it will remain..

When it comes to gameplay(more realistic behaviour of ships, planes, guns, subs) campaigns(to improve it or as I saw the other day, to try to add an optional "no delete on last waypoint" campaign files to test it out - that meaning nondissappearing ships, although it can be done by anyone with sheditor, better to be done by a pro)..

In the end..

Cheers!
:rotfl:

p.s. who said sh3 is dead? I tried to play iceland mission the other day.. Just for fun I startet shooting on convoy.. 3 destroyers atacked me on 40m depth, with wrecked hydrophone and damaged fwx batteries.. After lot of sweat and work and whispering of my crew, one of destroyers decided to leave(I know that because I used outside camera only for overall observation, 85% on olc ubermod).. Alas 2 more come.. It lasted for 2 hours more, shaking, screaming, kicking, swearing.. :arrgh!: And ofcourse screaming "not yet" and stuff like that.. Then I realized it was 3 am :88)..
Jawohl, herr kaleun..

I think it fair to say that those at GWX do their level best to ensure the mod is playable for as many people as possible.

A good example would have to be the number of additional mods that come as standard eg:

16km and Merged Campaign mods.

Any future additions (should there be any) would always be 'optional' choices for the player and not mandatory. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

If you are referring to ships 'zigging and zagging', that is what happened in RL and even more so when they were aware of U-boats in the vicinity. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

I do have all incidents (radio, plane, ship, etc) set to 1x, but all the keymapping does is make a quick press of the key jump several TC settings, and a full second of pressing goes to full TC. This is due to the key just repeating the Num+ key very rapidly. To drop to regular TC, you just need to press enter, switch to a 3D camera, or pause/unpause. With incidents at 1x, you can just hold it down when leaving port or slipping away from a contact. Each time your crew spots a contact, the TC drops to 1x and then flies back to max again.

For those that care to know, pressing backspace for pause definatly has a higher polling rate than other keys (such as enter for 1xTC) or prevents further calculations that would otherwise occur. This means that if your computer is sluggish at high TC, pausing and unpausing by holding backspace is more effective than using enter.

i don't disagree in main lines with you jimbuna but the 'idiot' part of ship's behaviour is that although they are zig-zaging their main line of this zig-zag is their first course and some time later they stop manuvering and travel again at the first course.
i have some doupts that this was exactly their behaviour in real life (when i give a shot to the first ship [90-degrees tactic at about 1.5km range] the only thing you have to do then is set the target speed 1-1.3 lower and you got and the others when zig-zag,try it..)

If you are referring to ships 'zigging and zagging', that is what happened in RL and even more so when they were aware of U-boats in the vicinity.

And if anyone had the ability to correct tha behavior in Game?
Don't you think it would have been done by now?
The Grey Wolves are not Wizards.
They CAN NOT change the standard AI as it is hard coded!
Can people change the Hard code?
Yes.
But you'll not see them doing it for GWX 3

i understand this for the first moment but maybe there is a tricky way to minimaze a little bit that behaviour.i think that maybe the idea of philipp thomsen will do the trick.put INSIDE a convoy at critical places some large ships which their movements abbilities will be tweaked ,as thomsen said ,to be slower than the others.this will cause for sure a mess at the convoy.just think about it,maybe this is our tricky solution

Could well be a solution or maybe it'll turm out to be just another way of breaking something in GWX....and we've all witnessed plenty of that in recent times :hmm:

I very much doubt that sort of experimental investigation/tweaking will be undertaken for GWX3 prior to its release.

Perhaps you'd like to try it yourself and feedback your findings to the community. :sunny:

We had the pleasure of meeting Dan Dimetrescu of the Silent Hunter Development team (I hope I spelled that correctly.) in Houston recently. We had some interesting discussions.

I must tell you, that Dan really cares about the work they are doing... and I must also tell you that Ubisoft really piles the pressure on the Silent Hunter devs. Generally speaking, Ubisoft is more concerned with how much money they can squeeze out of a project as rapidly as possible. (As is ANY game-developing company.)

Without the Silent hunter Series, there can be NO Grey Wolves Expansion.

Not only that, but the GWX Dev Team doesn't have to deal with a few of the same restrictions that the Silent Hunter Dev team must follow. If we need more time... we simply take it. If they need more time... they have to fight for it.

If anything, Ubisoft should throw the Silent Hunter Dev Team a banquet... and pay them so much money that they'd never want to go elsewhere...

I know that people mean well when such things are said about the Grey Wolves Dev team... but our relationship with the Silent Hunter Devs would be better described as a 'partnership.'

We can't do what we do without them.;)

An SDK would very likely not be the cure-all that people seem to think. Odds are that it would not be able to change hard-code, and so some limitations we'd still have to live with.

i am realy trying to understand here,

you said that you have a meeting with the sh devs (which is... very impressive) and then i am reading your post and you don't say the point of meeting or if something good came out of that.
all time here i am reading about this legendary sdk and you say that have a 'partnership' relationship with the devs and you don't say a word about that.i don't realy care about this(becuase my knowledge at programming is very low ) but others i am syre are very interested.
don't take my message as an attack , i am only interested at the goals of this meeting

If you want to skip the non-relevant parts, the discussion was Saturday night and there was some more Sunday afternoon.

The only dev there was Dan (Elenaiba is his screen name here). The point of the meeting was just for as many Subsim members as possible to get together and meet each other. I can't tell you anything more than that (I'm not hiding anything, I just don't know any more.

what did you asked about SH5?

Truthfully?

We Asked Dan what he does now as compaired to his past duties.
We asked his thoughts on how UBI looks upon ALL modders.
We sorta teased about why reflections were as they were.
(We mentioned Vampires)

For the most part?
All of us were there just to meet everyone.
Not to Bug people.
Dan is a really cool Guy and I'm glad I got to meet him.

But I did not want to bug him much about SH stuff.
We had a few good chats,

Actually I live in Brazil at the momment.

I plan on going to Canada on foot next year, to live there.

I won't stay on a specific place foreven, I plan on go lurking around the world on foot until I die. I don't want a carrer or anything like that. I might work in different places for short periods of time, knowing new people. Easy life, as I don't plan to get married or have children.

I would love to go in one of those subsim meetings, but it's much easier to go into canada then into usa. But I'll find a way. Even if I have to illegally get in the country and walk my way up to the meeting place.

So you think no water at all looks better? :hmm:

How the water looks can be modded to fit the best and most realistic visual.

Water doesn't look like water in sh3. Why should the water stream look like water stream?

This is an old game. Anything that looks close to the real thing is already good enough.

Not pushing anything here, just my 2 cents, no pum intended.

Right. For the time being, I think the available water stream mods do not look good enough to be included. (Though users can always add them later if they like.)

Also, they are very hard on system resources. Forty-plus particle generators makes for heavy FPS impact on marginal systems.

Final pre release announcement.

The files are ready and awaiting one last final build test by the testers.

This will happen as soon as Kpt Lehmann has had a chance to receive them.

Kpt Lehmann is currently temporarily unable to receive them because of RL and work related pressures.

I would imagine his soonest availability at The Lair will now be tomorow (24th)

It is therefore a possibility that our intended release date will not be met.

Barring any unforseen setbacks....let me categorically assure you on behalf of everyone at GWX.....the release will be as soon as humanly possible.

I have the files but Kpt Lehmann must be afforded the courtesy of overseeing the final build test and release.

I thank you all for your patience, we at GWX believe you are all worth the effort and sincerely hope you all feel that the wait is worthwhile.

On behalf of everyone at GWX may I wish you all the very best for the coming festive period. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/santa.gif

Just got back from my shift at work. Thanks for the good thoughts guys. I'll be right as rain in time.

(Practically everyone at work is ill so I am in good company there LOL!)

My apologies to all... a few days ago I missed several days of working on the project, so we are racing to make up lost ground. My fault guys.

What it looks like to me is that we will make our release before midnight Christmas Eve U.S. Central Standard Time... IF all remains on target as it is now.

Getting this release together has been rather tough for a number of reasons. (LOL, we thought this release would be easy to pull off.)

My personal thanks go out to those Grey Wolves team members who are giving up time they could be spending with friends and family right now... to see the success of this release through.

~SALUTE!~

Alright. Enough talk. Back to work with us.

Privateer, am hoping to catch you on TS if possible.:arrgh!:

Its hard to put into words just how much respect and the thanks we all here owe to you Greywolves team for giving us this wonderful simulation which has given us all here so many hours of joy and at times sheer terror. Have a great Christmas with your loved one's and again thank you one and all.

Jimbuna, apologies that you were stuck with the unfortunate task of holding the wheel and communicating for me remotely.

@Wildhawke11,

Thanks for your good thoughts. We hope you have a Merry Christmas as well. With all due respect though, we would have no Grey Wolves Project without the Silent Hunter Devs.

We can't do what we do without their work being there first.;)

No problem Kpt....please ensure my efforts are adequately reflected in the January pay check. A few extra pesos would not go amiss

I was going to ask for a % increase in the royalties but I'm not too sure :hmm:

I am sure the Devs are amazed, and happy, at how far their work has come from what was released. Those of us who were around at the beginning know they were rushed to get it out, and could not include, or do everything they wanted to it. What the Grey Wolves team has done is to take a good simulation and make the best it possibly can be. I salute the whole team for their outstanding work on this project.
