Hi all. Not as new here as my details suggest but had to re-register as it's been a while.

Firstly a huge thanks to all the various modders out there for improving this sim beyond belief. It's quite amazing having not played SH3 for a about 18 months to come back and find GWX and a host of improvements.

I'm trying to simply add some radio message files into the campaign/messages_en file. I open the file (using notepad) When I try and save the changes (or even save the original file without changing it) Vista tells me "Cannot creat the I:/SH3/data/Campaigns/campaign/messages_en.txt file Make sure Path and file name are correct"

The path is fine (I:/ is the right directory on my system) so I can't think what I'm doing wrong. Has this anything to do with enabling Admin rights on Vista?. I have to do that when running JSGME and SH3 Commander but that's easy, as they are programs and can be right clicked to run as Admin.

I'm sure this is simple, but if someone could give me a reason to say "Doh" it would be appreciated.

cheers and good hunting

Yeah, this sounds like it. I don't think this is related to anything in Vista otherwise since I'm playing/modding SH3 on Vista and this hasn't been an issue.

When the original installed Vista was released your required to install non certified vista software with administrative rights and also check off administrative rights to operated.

If your a solo dude using the computer you could turn off UAC but if not then you have to manually configure each program to work.

SP1 fix alot of this and makes it easier for administrators to just install and use the program without the headaches.

Best way to learn to control vista is link to the guide below.

Genius!!, thanks Phoenix and thanks guys. I knew someone would make me say "Doh". I was having a "senior moment" I think. Lol

For anyone else that searches this thread, I followed Phoenix's advice and dragged the amended file from "Documents" back to the SH3 campaign file. It said I needed admin rights to replace the existing file and let me authorize that (which it wouldn't do when I tried to manually amend the file within SH3 and then try and save it).

Thanks for the guide Wolfehunter. That will be useful in the future no doubt.

Thanks again, I'm back off under the Atlantic!
