Hello there,

In the WWW and especially in this great forum I've found countless sound-mods, but none of them solves my 'problem': the german voice does not correspond with the text written on the machine telegraph. for example, if I choose "Halbe Fahrt" (ahead standard) on the telegraph, I hear "Grosse Fahrt", which is not the same. Or if I choose "Langsame Fahrt" (ahead slow), I hear "1/3 Fahrt". For a non-native german speaker, that may be acceptable, but for me as an (pedantic) german, that is a no-go. S**t.

so I analysed all samples from hundreds of sound-mods and took the best of them, I watched lots of submarine movies and extracted and edited adequate sound-samples. my mod is nearly complete now.

But something is still missing: "Kleine Fahrt zurück" (back slow) in normal and panic emotion. (ChE_K_Back_Slow.ogg and ChE_P_Back_Slow.ogg). I unfortunately only have that in whispering voice....

Now I ask the community for help. perhaps, one of you has the missing samples.

A small sample "ZURÜCK" (back), spoken from Juergen Prochnow would also be fine. with that, I could edit my existing sound samples in order to create the missing ones by myself

gretings & thanx

you have to be patient. first, a "zurueck"-sample, spoken from j. prochnow is hard to get. if you see one, let me know. and second, i have holiday for 3 weeks......

I decided to publish a pre-alpha-version of my machine telegraph sound mod, although it is not ready. there are still 2 samples missing. but perhaps i'll find one person who likes this mod and helps me to search for the missing sample........

download: see my signature.

the readme:

hs Machine Telegraph Sound German v0.1 Pre-Alpha (unfinished)
================================================

What does that mod do?

1) It makes the (german) voice echo (captain/chief engineer) correspond to the setting of the machine telegraph. If you choose "Halbe Fahrt" (ahead standard), you will now hear "Halbe Fahrt" and no other things. this issue has ticked me off for months!

2) It mutes the submissive "Jawoll, Herr Kaleun". This may be historically correct, but I don't like it, because my girlfriend newly often says "Jawoll, Herr Kaleun" in order to deride me.

Some samples come from countless known Sound-Mods (from Philip_Thomsen, Poul for example. sorry, I don't remember all the names of the authors).

Some other samples I made by myself by extracting them from submarine movies. So the voices unfortunately sound different, but they are much better than the unemotional R2D2-voice of stock Sh3. it's still not perfect, but for me it's okay.

What is left to do?

Soundsample for "back slow" is still missing. If you have one, let me know.

Hope you enjoy it,

Thanks h.sie, downloading now. I speak no German but it's good to know someone has taken the time to make this authentic

Looking good, H.Sie.

But can I make a suggestion?
If you know german, then why don't you record yourself saying those words?
That way, all the orders will have the same voice.
If you want I can help you with that. You send me the recordings and I can add some effects to your voice to make it a little different, cos hearing your own voice in game gotta be a kick in the nutz.

Anyway, if you want any help, you lemme know!

hi PT,

nice to read that, especially from you! thanks for your help offer and the idea.
i had that idea, too, but 1) i have no micro and 2) my voice sounds laughable, compared to that voices used in my mod.

but when i'm back from holiday and if i'm still not able to find the missing samples, then i'll think about searching for a person with a good voice. and then, perhaps you can help me with some effects....

thank you!

The game voices is something I've never been happy with too. The stock voices sound like robots, and I have mixed feelings about the various "Das Boot" sound mods. The voice are great, but there's always that bit of noise or music or something mixed in the voice samples that kills a bit the immersion. It would have been great if UBI had traded the 9 robotic-tones voices for a single well-acted set of samples.

Hi Mikhayl,

I fully agree with you. The movie samples I used are not optimal. but in my opinion they are much better than the stock voices. so I can live with that compromise. other compromises regarding sh3 are harder for me to live with (repair times, no wolfpack, extreme acceleration of big warships and so on.....)....

perhaps sh5 will be better??....no. surely not. this forum has so many competent people. if they would bundle all their knowledge and capacity, I believe, they could program their own free sub-simulator

Just an idea; possibly there are interviews, clips of other films etc in which Herr Prochnow uses the word 'Zurück' and there may be other useful words....

Thankx. I will "scan" the movie "Das Boot" or any other movie for the word "Zurueck", when I am back.

There is a scene in Das Boot where Prochnow says "Halbe Fahrt zurück". It's after they have finished off the burning frighter and the survivors are trying to get to U96. (IIRC...)

hi Schroeder,

this sample is already in my mod: ChE_P_Back_Full.ogg. but that "zurueck" sounds very emotional (panic) and therefore it can't be mixed with other samples......i tried it. sounds awful.

H.sie is it possible to make the acurate number terms instead of 1.1.0. meters to one hundred and ten meters...? But in German.:hmm: Or does the SH3 engine have a limit to what it can handle in sounds?

Thanks,

WH

hi wolfehunter,

I'm not an expert, but I think that's hardcoded and cannot be modded.
