View Full Version : [REL] WB's Decks Awash Mod

Do you use Decks Awash as a tactic to lower the profile of your U-boat and let you approach closer to enemy ships?
Are you tired of setting the correct depth manually?

WBs Decks Awash Mod is another one that I made to make my life easy. It will replace the 'Snorkel Depth' (; key) setting for your U-boat to allow you to sail with decks awash.

Please read the Readme carefully.

A big thank you to the GWX team for allowing proper cruising with decks awash in their supermod.

Nice one http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

I will now go back into each CFG file (ingame) and set them back to the original settings before activating your mod

Cause and effect, jim. You made the nasty little Q-ships and I've made it slightly easier to approach the little buggers without being seen.

I've managed to resist the temptation to just rename them 'Watch Out' or 'Run Away'!

Your move.

Hi there

Is the snorkel depth important? Will I be missing out if I supersede it with this mod? I have never used the snorkel depth in the game. But I was wondering how important it is and if other players use it for a particular purpose. Just want to get this point straight before I replace it with this mod.

Thanks

Now if you can just figure out a way to have it run on the e-motors but still have the crew on the bridge. After all, part of the decks-awash approach is to be quiet as well.

WeeBubba, snorkel depth is there for use with the snorkel, so, late in the war, yes, it could conceivably cause a problem.

The mod is designed to be used before snorkels become available - once they become available and you've fitted them to your U-boat you need to disable the mod to get proper snorkel depth back.

Thanks WB. That makes sense.

By the way, I am currently using your mission orders lite, mission warnings, fuel economy and deck gun range mods. so thanks for your hard work. your mods are definetely being put to good use!

Cute, but hardly realistic.

Isn't it already possible to do deck awash in GWX 2.1? I've used this technique before...

Is their something that I am missing?:hmm:

You're not missing anything - the GWX team made it possible to sail with decks awash to lower your profile, all I did was create the mod that allows you to apply it using a single key rather than setting the depth manually.

Decks awash dramatically lowers the chances of being detected while still allowing you to keep a deck watch and use diesels for the greater speed. I've got within 500m of enemy ships (slowly, on a dark night) without being detected. It also reduces your crash dive time substantially - thanks to the GWX Team:up:

Thanks for the keybinding.

Now you don`t have to think. I am very glad with this.

Cute, but hardly realistic.

Steve, hardly realistic the depth set or the tactic wasn't used or use like this?

The only picture I could find was of a boat that seemed to be running in heavy seas so it is difficult to work out the depth it may be at. GWX decks awash has a similar effect in heavy seas. http://www.webshots.com/search?query=U-boat (fourth row from bottom, second from right).

The tactic was used, but I can't find a source to verify what the depth should be - if anyone can enlighten me I can adjust the mod.

Does anyone know if this mod conflicts with Venatore's 'crash dive' mod,I get a warning when I go to enable with JSGME:hmm:

It shouldn't do.

venatores mod gave you the ability to select a set of different depths when hitting the crash dive key.

WB's pre sets your surfaced depth to a decks awash depth (conning tower only, showing).

The good thing about JSGME is that you can easily disable one or the other if there were to be a serious conflict between mods...but in this instance, I doubt it.

I think the E-motors cant be engaged due to hardcoding into SHIII.

Even if being an "Old fart" I still remember this discussion way back in time.

SHII had the ability to run on surface using the E.motors but SHIII changed that.

Pity!:-?

Cheers
