View Full Version : Game Crash! Please Help!
Hello everyone! Please help me!
I have SH3 with GWX 2.1, no other mods installed. The game crashes randomly, when I try to load my saved game. When this happens I can no longer continue my career, because when I try to load an older saved game it crashes too.

Obviously a big problem here, could be a host of possibilities, even a corrupt file.
Your initial information is succict and to the point, but sadly, tells us little.
To save time and effort, consider a complete reinstallation.

Thank You for Your answer!
I tried reinstall several times, but the problem comes randomly again. One more info: when I try to use my saved files in an other PC, other game, that game crashes too. When I delete that save from the directory it works again.
Now I download the GWX again, and try it. I hope it works.

Welcome aboard, MRKLR.
Jimbuna's advice is spot-on.
Ensure that you delete using the "Undelete" option from the game Dvd; and that you remove all traces of your installation by manually deleting the SH3 folder in "My documents" and the SH3 folder under Ubisoft in "Program Files". It's also best to run a good "cleaner" program such as C Cleaner ( files and regisitry )
You can check the size of your downloaded GWX2.1 files to verify that they have been downloaded completely( see the GWX 2 site for details ) If in doubt I would downoad them again.
Hopefully a new install will solve the problem.
The most worrying thing is that you can't reload saved game (s). Sometimes CTDs are associated with a specific event in the game - e.g. when it's loading a convoy, or a harbour and point to a memory problem - either insufficient RAM, or insufficient video-card power.
But if SH3 is allowing you to save a game, then carry on playing, but CTDs when you try to reload the save, the problem is more likely to be a corrupt file.
More detail of the CTDs would help - How often they happen? Are there any error messages? Does your entire system have to be rebooted? Could they be associated with an in-game event which puts high demands on your system etc? And details of your system would also be useful
Best wishes,
VonM

Sorry, Crossed-postings:

It seems as though something is corrupting your Save Game files. To narrow it down, I suggest installing SH3 and playing a career "out of the box" without even patching to later versions. If the CTDs happen at that stage, you have a corrupt file on your basic installation ( which may be the result of a damaged file on the DVD itself )
If stock SH3 "out of the box" is fine, install the patches and repeat the exercise at each stage ( running a career and saving and reloading until you get a CTD, or you're sure everything's OK so far )
Install GWX 2 and run a test career as above
Finally, if everything's OK so far, install GWX 2.1 and run a career.
This could be time-consuming, but eventually - if it is a problem with the software - you'll know which bit of the program / patches etc is the cause.
Thank You for Your help!
I have to specify the story: the first crash comes in game, and after that crashes the saved game, when I try to load.

While youre doing all that, check to see if harddrive needs defragging. It probably won't cure your problem, but will speed up data transfer and your saved game will be in one block, plus less wear on your drive.

If yes, how?
