White 5. Ng1-f3

A 60-page thesis on contemporary piracy!? What nazi gave you that assignment?
I can't imagine how anything about modern pirates would occupy 60 pages. They come from poor countries, they steal stuff and kill people. Their only distinction from their land-based contemporaries is that they use boats. :arrgh!:

What is the assignment, exactly? Maybe I can help you do some research or review your work, if you would like that. Other than that, good luck:up:

I'm not too sure yet. It's not due til sometime in March, and I've got a well-informed Commander willing to supervise me. Though when it gets rolling I may need a hand. Sorting through maritime law and the situation on the strategic policy level is easy, but I struggle in the 'nitty gritty' of the tactical and operational strata.

Sure thing. I'll start looking in the morning. I have to go to work in about 15 minutes here.

I'll have to post my next move in the morning, too. I need more time to think about it. I have something special planned for you, but I need to gain tempo to do it. I want to make sure I don't mess it all up by acting in haste. :D

Damn, you're giving me a run for my money, here. I did better in the match where I kept mapping the moves wrong:D . Maybe it's time for some crazy exchanges:p

As far as your piracy study goes:

Here's a book ;
http://www.maritimeterrorism.com/2007/08/19/book-review-contemporary-piracy-and-maritime-terrorism/

A "Wired" blog with a little persepective on Somali piracy. Skybird touched on this in another thread. Maybe he could help as well. He sent me an excellent essay on Islamic militarism in Afghanistan, and he may have some valuable perspective on the relationship between contemporary piracy and African Islamic states.
http://blog.wired.com/defense/2008/10/somalia-piracy.html

A news story concerning the economic damages inflicted by piracy
http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/411319/2172111

Once again, it deals with Somali piracy, and I don't know if that is what you are looking at specifically. Contemporary piracy is a broad subject. PM me with a detailed description regarding the state of your thesis and exactly what kind of information you are looking for, as well as what kind of a point you want to make. Or you could just assign me to look at a specific aspect of contemporary piracy. Economic damages, history of piracy, current pirate organizations, pirate tactics, etc. etc.

Search results for "contemporary piracy" mostly yield artcles and blogs about internet piracy. Searches for maritime piracy tend to yield results concerning international law.

Give me a slightly narrower search area, and I'll get you some info.

Outstanding. I wish you could have been there. It was very rewarding to see the battleship Texas and assist with the recovery of items from the Cavalla. Even more so, it was great to meet everyone.

I'll need some more time to consider my next move. I might sacrifice my bishop for your knight, or I might trade my rook for your own. Sorry for the delay. Expect my reply later tonight or tommorrow morning.

Good game my friend. I think it's okay to hope for mistakes. I had a few traps set up that way. It's just important to be careful about how much you have riding on them.

I used Chessmaster rather than my physical board to plot out the moves this time. It helps a lot for working out things 3-4 moves down the road and avoiding the dreaded blunders that I was making last time.

Anyway, baggy if you are still up to play go ahead and start a thread with your move and I will jump in.

Enjoy your game with baggy, but expect another challenge afterwards. The way I see it, we still have a tiebreaker game to decide. :D

And don't expect another attempt at easy mate from me. When we next meet , I will be as intransient as the night, as imperturbable as a mountain, and as baffling as a cryptic metaphor!:D

@ Sky- I can't promise that I won't make the same mistakes twice, or even three or four times, but I'll learn, eventually.;)
