View Full Version : TMO Plot V 1.0

Simply put, this mod is meant to be applied over RFB (or any mod really) to make the attack map and navigation map mimic the plotting system found in TMO allowing the player to use the O'kane targetting method brung to popularity by Rockin Robbins.
This version is not complete as future versions will NOT display the speed and vector information. I hope to have a new version which I and Rockin Robbins feel is as close to historically accurate as is allowed without modifing the code in the game.
Good Hunting.
Edit: If there are any specific changes anyone would like, I'll help all I can.

TMOplot 1.0 is aimed at two groups of players. The first is players moving from TMO to RFB, recognizing that RFB is where the action is now. Personally I find the submarine superior to TMO. The interior is nicer, including animated fans, the orders bar dials enlarge when your mouse is using them for more precise input that is much easier to read. I love the stopwatch and the huge amount of work that went into making the torpedoes as historically accurate as possible. All this, in my judgment, is better than TMO. Then at some point you are in battle and look at the RFB plotting system.
Yike! You say. This has to go. But how? Well, if you think about it one of the greatest parts of TMO is the plotting system. All contacts are black spots, not colored silhouettes. There are no velocity vectors to tell you at a glance what the enemy course is. When you click on an enemy contact it doesn't say course and speed. Passive sonar vectors look like stock but they are all black. If you're worked with it, you love it.
TMOplot 1.0 plugs almost all of that wonderfulness into RFB and because it comes from the RFB Team it is certified not to break any of the other features of the supermod. In fact you don't even need to return to port to install it! There are two gotchas in there right now that we're working on but they're not deal breakers.
Right now, if you click on a contact, the @$@# velocity vector pops up. You'll also still get "course nnw, speed slow." These two are doomed, I say! But it's plenty good enough to release while we puzzle this out.
The last thing is that the torpedo silhouette on the attack screen isn't working yet. That's a minor thing that just slipped past us and will be fixed quickly.Edit: it is working now in TMOplot 1.0.
The second group that will be interested in TMOplot is everybody else. If you're playing stock or Fall of the Rising Sun, you can plug in TMOplot and have the great TMO plotting system instantly! Players of the stock game may be complaining that just because they spot a ship hull down at 11 miles, they shouldn't instantly know whether it is friendly, neutral or enemy, they shouldn't know what kind of ship it is and they shouldn't instantly know the course by inspection even with radar. Well if that is all that's bugging you or if you like to roll your own SH4 this is a perfect mod for you to try out. It will give you appropriate information within the hardwired capabilities of the game and really contribute to your feeling of accomplishment when you sink that tanker that was too easy yesterday.
Stay tuned for the last tweaks. There are other people working on a stock plotting plug-in for RFB and TMO. That will be equally exciting!
What? You actually wanted to download it? We should provide a link? OK. The Link (http://files.filefront.com/TMOPlotV10rar/;11854151;/fileinfo.html)

Rockin would you like me to cut it off quick and easy for ya mate  have a BIG LONG rusty sharpe knife ready, but you have to keep your head dead still.
exactly what i was looking for, take a bow!
possibly slightly on topic: one thing i do love about TMO is the detailed map with all the names but i'm too scared to just copy a file from one supermod into the other. any tips? or is it really just one simply file which i could copy without drama?
cheers,
bos

Interesting, I had the same issue of not having a detailed map, with key places like Iwa jima and things missing. I reinstalled from fresh then installed RFB and the maps were back to detailed.
If you know where iwo jima is, go there and check, if its not there then the file is corrupt if it is there then the maps local is okay.
I wouldnt advise replacing "that" files. I think those files are stored as .dds files and then placed on the map. I remember looking over it, thinking of adding more info and found it a little out of my ability and will to do. Other then that most of the map is failsafe. Either you get black squares, or the game will fail to load saying "Cannot find Blah Blah"
Sorry I can't be of more help.
nope thats not the problem, iwo jima is there just fine, but i'm talking about all the annotations on the map, like corregidor I & II, Convoy College etc
just a minor thing of course, but i get radio reports indicating that a taskforce is about to head down the SLOT to guadalcanal and i'd like to be able to find that SLOT on the map.
basically, i suppose RSRD gives me TMO locations which i cant find on the RFB map, but i could be entirely wrong. but i guess RFB means rowing with the same oars which the real skippers had

First off RSRDC for RFB assigns patrol areas regardless of what kind of map you use. Second the new RFB release will be coming out with a new map. Thirdly the TMO map is the one that included "Convoy College", annotations. It was the developers choice and on what to add to his mod.
Since I am a bit geographically challenged when it comes to the Pacific Rim I just Pause and Alt-Tab out to the internet for a quick look up of the area I am being asked to go and patrol it works everytime no problem. I think the map part of SH4 is very moddable so you can pick and choose. My opinion I could be wrong.

Okay, sorry I misunderstood. I myself am not sure what controls those locals on the map, I'll look into it, as I kind of liked em myself. Right now the best info I can provide is that the "slot" is the streach of water between Guadalcanal and Savo Island.
I used to do like Wilcke and Alt+Tab out, but everytime I do that I lose control of my silent running and CO2 so I keep a HUGE map over the PC :p

Except the link for the TMO keyboard layout for RFB or stock. Actually it works for any installation of SH4! TMOkeys! (http://files.filefront.com/TMOkeys7z/;12062058;/fileinfo.html)
ok :)
like i said it's just a tiny tiny issue, and if i had activated 2 braincells i could have gathered that Slot just means slot and was likely to be the long narrow space between the islands, lol
anyway i'm eager to find out what the new RFB map will look like.
PS I have found that alt tabbing does not cause any problems if I do it from the control room in 1x

The interior is nicer, including animated fans........
Just out of curiosity, do you have any other mods installed that might animate the fans? I downloaded RFB so I could have a nicer interior too, but my fans are all static.
I feel like I'm missing out.

The animated fans will be in the next RFB release, which should be in a couple weeks, if not sooner. We have a few little kinks to get worked out.
I think RR is using the beta currently as am I and thats why animated fans are included in his post...

Thanks.
I figure the worst RR could do is unleash a virtual fleet of nuclear deck gun fleet boats, good thing I can hear him explaining the importance of proper deck gun maintenance and usage ' to the overworked crew of the USS Kraken from here to Singapore.

I certify that TMOplot Final is ready for release whenever Orion2012 is ready. I've tested it pretty thoroughly and it IS Trigger Maru. Import it into RFB and nothing changes at all but the plotting system, which now makes sense and works predicatably, exactly as Trigger Maru does.
It can also be used in any game configuration, changing nothing but the plotting system into Trigger Maru plotting. You can even install this mod in the middle of a cruise without any problems at all.My job as crash test dummy on this project is done. Now I won't play SH4 without it. Great job Orion! And just in time for Christmas! Available in stores everywhere!
