Right, I decided to do a new install.

So....

Uninstalled GWX.
Uninstalled SH3 Commander.
Uninstalled JSGME.

Re-installed SHIII.
Patched 1.4b
Installed GWX 2.0
Installed SH3 Commander
Installed GWX 2.0 SH3 commander files
Installed GWX 2.1 - ERROR!! WTF? Says there are JSGME files installed. OK, found folder and removed it. Ran GWX 2.1 again - success.
Installed OLC's mod - NOT the GUI part.
Installed OLC's SH3 Commander files.

Launch SH3 via the 'SH3 with GWX 2.1' shortcut......

Blue Screen of Death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something about trying to write to read only memory.

%#*(%^&@)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate this crap!!

Takes about 40 minutes to do all this, then the damn thing doesn't work.

I am about 2 seconds away from abandoning SH3 due to the fact that it is unstable and takes forever to install all the different files etc to get it to a point where it is a challenge.

So.....

One last try.....

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong, or what the probems might be?

It would be really good if there were a manual on how to do all this that is as good as GWX's manual i.e. clear order of what to do, screenshots on updating the various SH3 commander files and JSGME etc.

I've got to the point where I don't know if I have corrupted files and/or am doing something wrong, or if it's some other issue making it unstable. As an aside, I didn't have these issues with NYGM, so maybe GWX just doesn't like my system. Either way, the sheer number of things required to get the sim to the desired level is hugely frustrating, doubly so when it doesn't work at the end of it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HELP!!!

SH3 + GWX + mods is like a virgin young lady: you have to follow all the steps carefully, and even so you might screw it all.

Do what I do: once you manage to install it error-free, make a copy of it on dvd. SH3 don't have to be installed, don't need to have any entry at windows registry. You can just copy all the folders to your HD and it works like a charm. But the first install must be perfect, tho.

Good luck!

Yeah, I did that. Uninstalled everything then deleted everything (usually some residual folders) that remained.

Still crashed after doing it 'fresh'.

1 last ditch effort u can try:

Scratch ure existent virtual RAM by changing the size or location manually, reboot and reverse it back auto. The frigging storing of sh3 files into the personal folder is a real headache. The system tries to load part of it from the virtual RAM. I could notice it when it took a while to show me the saved games of a campaign. I had set virtual RAM to a 2ndairy HD which was set to turn off after 30s when not in use. The saved games screen popped up after this HD was ready to be used after the spin up.

A blue screen i have only if the driver of the gfxcard was messed up and recovery was unsuccessful or the onboard soundchip was irritated. Both are legacy devices.

Is it possible that you have change the configuration from SHIII.exe and set it to another window running system?

...and the basic check: Does SH3 standalone (i.e. no mods, only patch 1.4b) still work OK on your computer?

Sometimes you have inadvertedly done something that screws it, and then you blame it later to GWX or other mods. But its worth trying if SH3 still runs well.

SHIII runs fine, as does NYGM 3.0.
