The Royal Navy Mod



The Royal Navy Mod is meant to add the Royal Navy and its allies the Royal Australian Navy as a playable nationality. It will do everything my Kriegsmarine Mod (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=141629) will do but for the Royal Navy instead.




More info to come as I get started

Is there one in SH3/OM/or any of the GWX's? If not I need pictures of it, I would really love a Vanguard Class too.

Hi!

The battleships HMS Lion and Temeraire were never built. Britain started building them in 1939, but they never finished them and scrapped them in mid-construction in 1942-43. Something about needing steel for ASW escort vessels....

They are not in GWX V2.1.

This mods ETA has been pushed back in favor of making it a Total Conversion Mod. I and my team (if I can get a 3D modeler and a skinner) will be changing everything from the start screen to the start up movie!

Thanks! As of now, a member of the team is redoing the bridges of the ships and editing them to be fully functional! Were going to edit the crew management page to be more BB-CA-CL-DD style and adding more crew to the decks of the ships. What do you mean about the carriers?

well, being part of these mods...

i would comment that it would be very unlikely to make a CV work on the royal navy, and possibly USN mod... here are my reasons.
A.it looks fun, but in reality there wasnt much to do on a carrier. reason being
(subpart a.) you cant program planes to take off from the decks of carriers, you dont see it happen in sh3, 4 or UBM, its just not programmed into the game.
B. even if you did get the planes to take off...all you have left to do is wait until they all got shot down or came back....
C.leaving the only fun part to be if you got all that working...the management of bombs, shooting down enemy planes, and other little things that carriers have to manage...

just my thoughts on the subject, i can be (and usually am) proven wrong

I have to agree w/ Sledgehammer427 there, its not going to be the most action packed part of this mod. But if enough people want it I can include it I guess

I was using SWSM's RN Dido Class CL, in a mission I set up since the campaign is not ready yet*. I put her up against 12 Japanese DD's, I sank 4 of them fast! I then moved in to torpedo the 5th and 6th DDs, but recieved damage from a Jap CA I put as the 2nd test. so I turned away. I forgot I fired 4 torpedos and turned into 2 of them!!!!:damn::nope:. I took major damage, 81%! The Maya CA moved closer and sunk me!

the white ensign looks great!

all I ask for is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.....

one of this days I will take some of those for a spin.... like Cossack, Maori and the rest around Bismark... to relive Vians flotilla in Norway and the North Atlantic

Receiving hull damage and indicate as well as display it is not the problem… receiving system damage, indicate it and repair it that’s the problem!

Here's a question:

If I wanted to get a multiplayer general fleet action going between the RN and the KM, then would this be possible? Any file incompatibilities between users however will shoot down the connection. Thus would it be possible to have a multiplayer-only mod which combines both the RN and KM mods? Just curious (because it would be cool as hell to do so).

By the way,do you think would be possible to add movement to the anchor of these ships? ( raise and lower would be cool in order to get resting into a harbour). Also another interesting feature would be the adition of some exterior lighting.

in s3d, i believe you can make the anchor swing on those ships that don't have very secure anchors, i forget what the property is, and how to use it because S3D still don't work:nope:

Putting these here even tho it equally applies to the KM mod as well.

I don't know how much modding has been done of the various auxilary units which are available to you on-map. It appears that you have more control over these assets (i.e. more of them show up) as you move up in renown gained.

Thus would it be possible to give the player command control over other units? Say that you start your patrol in a surface raider (one of the pocket BBs), and a heavy cruiser is stationed right outside the harbor, with an ocean-wide movement circle. You just order him to tag along (or, rather, you order him to the next waypoint and you match his speed). For larger numbers of units it may be too unwieldly, unless you can set a full task force (i.e. more than one ship) to be attached to the AUX icon.

Then there's Condor search planes, and Sunderlands if you are a British H-K group looking for subs to sink.

I'm starting a related thread in the main SH4 mod forum.

I was just having a little fun with the KGV class, Dido class, and Fiji class warships in a pre-pre-pre-test release version:D! Here are my stories:

1) King George V Class BB: I left Pearl Harbour in 1942, heading towards my objective(randomly chosen! NO OBJ's yet in game!) After 2 weeks on sailing towards Cape Town I met my 1st enemy ship worth my 10, 14in guns. A Japanese light cruiser escorting 2 liners!(Newly added in T.S.W.S.M.) At a distance of 7591meters I opened up! The guns take some time to engage and they take way to long to reload!:x But the 3 ships were sent down within 15mins! After 15 days of raiding convoys and racking up 120,453tons of ships sunk, I turned home! and met my last target. A task force. At 1st the escorts were sent down fast but the 2 battleships soon sent me down:nope:
Total Tonnage sunk: 153.532t
2) Dido Class CL: I left Freemantle in 1943, and sank after repeated air and land attacks outside on German Norway!(Yes I traveled the whole way! and yes I used the Panama Canal!)
Total Tonnage sunk: 0t
3) Fiji Class CL: I left Freemantle in 1944, and headed towards Tokyo. I ran into a convoy with 1 CL and 5 DD escorts, sank 1 DD with 2 torpedos!:up:(YES! CL's, DD's and some CA's have torpedos!) and crippled 1 other DD, before sinking by the bow, and capsizing just before I fully disappeared.
Total Tonnage sunk: 5,671t

I have an idea: how about creating missions where you protect convoys? You could create a convoy route in the campaign layer and have the player spawn nearby. It would be up to them to stay close to the convoy at all times until it reached its destination. Air attacks & surface raiders could be spawned periodically along the route to keep things interesting.

On August 9, 1942 HMAS Canberra was sunk. Not many people know though her ghost kept haunting the Pacific for many more years, looking for Japanese ships. When encountering those she tried to ram them, her limited intelligence not enough for her to understand ghosts can't ram things...

Dont worry mate i havnt been able to solve the problem of the spontaniously combusting Admiral Scheer , although the kgv damage model seems to be rather sweet. Damage shots to follow :D
