Hello All,
I've been playing SH3 with GWX and OLC GUI for nearly a year now and SH3 for a bit longer, and I've just noticed a minor issue with the navigation map. I no longer see the labels of things like the Skaggerak and Rockall Banks that show up at the intermediate zoom levels. I still see the city/port names, and the names of the oceans. Has anyone else seen this and/or is there anything I can do about it? I did try reinstalling everything which didn't help. I've asked the same question over in the GWX and OLC threads as well and haven't gotten a response.
What exactly is it that causes the big labels to show up when fully zoomed out and for the intermediate labels (like "Rockall Banks," etc) to show up when zoomed in a bit more? Anyway, any help that anyone can give me to get my "intermediate" labels back would be much appreciated.
Adam
I don't know for sure (forgot to check it out for you when I played last night) so the following should be considered : "IIRC". But I think is is simply because SH3 switches over to a different graphic file, an image dat does not contain those names of areas in it's pixels because of zoom size. Are you sure they were there before? Names of ports and cities are different since they have an allegiance and thus changing color. They are printed rather than part of the image. Doesn't seem to me like there is anything wrong.

adamant, are you using the GWX English Navmap and Grid Refs modlet? IIRC that causes a problem similar to what you described. :hmm:

Thanks for the replies. In response to Pisces, I am sure that those labels were there before. Heck, look at your map and when you start fully zoomed out and then zoom in on, say, the south coast of Norway, you see that at a certain point, the labels for the Skagerrak and Kattegat "show up." My map doesn't do that. I definately recall it doing Same thing goes for Rockall. When fully zoomed out, the only thing that appears is the label "Atlantik Ozean." When I zoom in on the area where Rockall is, the label for this area should show up, but on my map, it doesn't. The city labels are fine and they all display their proper allegiances at the proper times.
In response to OLC, I do not have the English labels enabled.
Okay, I'm going to play around with a few things. I have one further question: where are the image files for the navigation map located and what are they called? Thanks again,
Adam

Okay, just on a hunch, I downloaded GWX 2.0 again and installed it to a dummy directory. Then I took the "Terrain" folder out of the "Data" folder and moved it to my real "Data" folder. That fixed the problem. I must have had a corrupt download or install of GWX. That makes me wonder, what else is not right?....
Anyway, thanks for your responses. If not providing the solution, you all at least got my two brain cells thinking in parallel. :)

I believe the map control is done via: \data\Terrain\TerMaps.cfg
This file defines the format and the resolutions at which they apply. They also specify the files.
For example, in my copy of TerMaps.cfg there is:
[Map1]
Format=raw
Resolution=4320,2160,10000; map width,height(in pixels) and density(meters per pixel)
ZoomLevels=40000,20000,10000,7000; meters per pixel
Tiles=1,1
File=data\Terrain\Maps\Map1\4320_2160.raw
[Map2]
Format=raw
Resolution=21600,10800,2000; map width,height(in pixels) and density(meters per pixel)
ZoomLevels=4000,2000,1000,500; meters per pixel
Tiles=1,1
File=data\Terrain\Maps\Map2\21600_10800.raw
As you zoom in (or out), and cross a ZoomLevel boundary, you will switch from one map to the other. Hence the change in lables.
