Hello!

I often log in to subsim, to see if I can find something interesting. Dont post often. But this time I feel I need some help. I play GWX 2.0 and I was wondering how I can increase the pings from the destroyers. In my games he almost never ping me. I searched the forum, and it seems that it can be edited in the sim.cfg file. But how? Anyone? I`ve changed it several times ( detection time, sensivity, waves factor, lose time) But all he does is giving a couple of pings, and then, as far as a can understand, only uses his hydrophone.

Some help here would be appreciated

The fact of you dont hear the pings do not means the DDs are not pinging you.

The range at wich you are able to hear the pings in the game, is an adjust of the sound file into the sh3.sdl file.

Try there. I made it long time ago, if i am not wrong you can loss other sounds due their priorities, and the capability of the sound card to reproduce many sounds at time, i cant remember.

Ok. Will try

Any suggestions which program to use when editing that type of file?

If you download my Mod it usually increases the Sonar pings in game.
I have found this happens in SingleMissions.

it also depends on what year of the war you're fighting in. Early war active sonar was not the best, and you could evade them fairly easily by just running deeper. At the end though, all you will hear is the chirping of asdic hitting you relentlessly

Yes, TimeTraveller's MiniTweaker Program... i was looking for to put you some screns but sadly this program needs some files templates, and the actual sh3.sdl files i am using sure was modified by another program, because the template file can not to adress the hexe lines. Sorry.

Any way you may try a manual edit.... use a Hexeditor and a Hexagesimal to Decimal/Decimal to Hexagesimal converter.

If i was not wrong there is a line for the max range at wich a sound is audible... i remember (if not wrong0 i made test increasing it up to 1.5km away... but you become crazy, ping...ping... ping.... ping... you can hear the DDs pings more far away... but then you hear more DDs pings... if you have 6 DDs or DEs pinging you you become crazy... if not wrong, stock was about 200m.... or some thing like that. The minimun radius silence the ping to not cover other sounds like the engine and proppellers of the DD raming you.

The problem may be the priority... the sound will silence all other sounds with a low priority value if not remember bad...

Hello again.

Well, I think I fixed the pingproblem. In fact, I am certain of it!
It wasnt the soundcard. Used the tweakprogram to adjust the AI sensors. And boy oh boy oh boy :o the destroyers pings me constantly now! Have tried several sessions to check out how the destroyers behave. And they are deadly! Every time they have destroyed my precious sub. It feels like Im in Das Boot movie!

Furthermore I increased the amount of depthcharges carried by the destroyers. From 40 to 80, and adjusted the depthcharges values. The result? A depthchargeattack can go on for hours. Just like it did in real life.

Can you post your Mod?
It's something that adds a lot to the game and I think its an effect most people are looking for.

I intend to do that. But as for now, my work keeps me away from the modding. Furthermore, I think this mod requiers more testing. I have read to many post here complaining of "pin point drops". It should be difficult to be depthcharged, and thrilling, but not impossible to escape. Even late in the war.

What I am looking for is the thrill, that always got me when playing Aces of the deep. I remember being depthcharged for over 12 hours gametime, but I got away!

p.s

Still got the kriegsmarinemap, that was included in the box when I bought AOD. Very handy when deciding where to go next :D

IŽll be back, soon

Fully agree! I am playing NYGM. By using free camera, I seen the DD change direction from search pattern to directly toward me from about 500m to 1000m distance. But my u-boat is fully silent and I can not hear the ping.

Before trying to edit file. I want ask does the ping from different distance DD have different volume? The SH3 hydrophone sound system seems have a Auto Level Control system. This ALC feature is very bad and let me can not distinguish the DD distance (except from bearing change). And the sound meter in sonar workstation does not work.

BTW, I guess in the SH3 hydrophone sound model, there are no terrain, and you change direction (so size is different form DD view), you sink on bottom (hope the bottom echo will cover you), you hide unde merchant ship (hope it's noise will cover you), the depth charge explode (make bubble stop sound transfer), but nothing can prevent DD found you. Only the depth and distance take effect.

Still have a question. Does the value in sh3.sdl of ping hearing distance aplly to both commander room and hydraphone. I think a good implement should let ping being heared in hydraphone much long distance and not too long in submarine interior to not let player crazy. But ......
