Hi all
If I understand correctly, some work was done to 'improve' the weather i.e. reduce the shocking weather that lasts for weeks at a time in 'stock' SH3. Just wondering what experiences people are having with this. Here's a comment on some of mine:
I had started a patrol in 2.1 and noticed 2 things:
1. the visibility range seemed poor, by which I meant ships were being spotted at around 4km max, even in 'unlimited' visibility. That made me think the visibility was at 'stock' level of 8km, reduced by conditions and crew attributes.
2. the weather was much better. I encountered a storm or two, but they lasted around a day at most, and usually less than that. The original weather tended to be crappy for days on end.
I then installed the 16km mod and started a new patrol as I was only part-way into the other patrol, so needed to delete that career before installing the mod etc. That took care of the visibility range (and I'm used to 16km from NYGM). I noticed, however, that the weather seems to have gone back to the 15m/s, heavy overcast and rain (on and off) that lasted for as many as 4 days without interruption. Either I've been very unlucky, or I figured it might be possible that the 16km mod altered the weather in some way.
In my recent patrol, I've had a period of 13 days where the BEST weather I've had was 9m/s winds, clear overcast sky and 'moderate' visibility. Much of the time had rain and 'poor' visibility. It makes it all but impossible to do anything, so I tend to dive to 30m, set speed to 1kt, put TC to 1024x and check the weather every 4 hours via external view (bit of a 'cheat' but it saves coming to p-depth). I do this as rain and poor visibility makes any kind of attack really difficult - even if you detect people through your sound gear, actually sighting them an getting a shot off is all but impossible.....
Any comments? What are other people finding? IS there a difference in weather between 8km and 16km vision ranges (don't expect there would be, but.....)?
As an aside, enjoying GWX 2.1 very much.
Cheers
