Would it be possible to implement the fido on allied ships and planes? Adding some more close-to-modern-ASW aspects into the game? :)

Not really, no.

The only units that can fire torpedoes are human-controlled ones. That is... U-boats. There is no mechanism in SH3 to fire torpedoes from AI controlled ships.

The best you'd be able to do, would be to replace a U-boat type with a British Destroyer Class (e.g. like the Admiral Hipper replacement) and then play against a U-boat in a multiplayer game.

However, implementing depthcharges would be difficult (possibly impossible due to the aramining limitations).

@Dietrich

Thanks for replying :) Well, okay, that stuff about substituting a DD for a sub is way too problematic for me so I'll leave it at that :lol: What about the air planes? Aren't they able to launch torps. either?

Sadly not. (And here, there isn't the same sort of option of creating a DD unit.)

At least they launch torpedos in SHIV. Maybe a possibility further on?

there is an AI torpedo mod somewhere out there, and it works. as far as i know they managed to get torpedoes to launch from surfaced and submerged subs and IIRC surface ships too.

the only problem with it is the AI torpedo has a speed of about 90 or 100 knots and they couldnt mod them to go any slower. its somewhere in this mods forum, i think work on it was abandoned after the beta stages.

Well, there are issues as to how a torp is
'presented' with some mods.

A TRUE torp can be done with trickery.

But under visual inspection?
It does not pass mustard.

Every Top Notch Modder I have talked to?
Refuses to release a so, so fix.

I also refuse to release a so, so fix.

Others may not be so picky.

"Pass mustard?"

That brings up some unsettling images.

@Goldenrivet

:rotfl: 90-100 knots? Well.....it might be a good missile add on unless of course it refuses to leave the water

@Privateer

Well....I wouldn't mind trying one of those so so fixes, after having purchased DW some months ago nothing can upset me anymore :lol: god I miss SHIII, but I would like some more modern ASW aspects, wish we could make a cold war gone hot campaign for SHIII with more modern submarine warfare

...there is an AI torpedo mod somewhere out there, and it works...It's Sergbuto's Wolfpack Mod and PT Boats Mod. These AI units are able to launch virtual torps.

For my own purposes I managed to apply this ability to additional AI units like the US S Class Sub [submerged & surfaced version].

Those links are dead for a long time now..

Has everyone gone crazy with that cold war stuff? :rotfl:

SH4 offers a possibility to fire torpedos for AI controlled ASW Aircrafts. For more info see SH4 forum and stories about player controlled BB ships. Maybe the trick could be done by converting bombs into torpedos and than to configure their speed, dive angels, etc. Just putting in some ideas ... I'm not a modder. Maybe it could be done something alike mines that could be lunch from sub. :hmm: See more there:

Interesting idea, as I mentioned the other thread:yep:
