USS Sea Tiger,
I love you mate YES!   finally someone out there can create a WWI SH3 Sub mod game, I'm hoping the GWX team could join :hmm: you and help build a WW1 SH3 Sub mod game like the GWX addon mod.
I don't forget you have to set the year into WWI not in WWII years other than that ther picture looks really cool and the sub as well TOP job maybe Tomi could help you with sub mod.
Finally who going to create a WW1 complete ships mod addon? would be very interesting to see.

Hi
Glad to see there is some interest in this project. Thanks,, And a big thanks for any corrections.
There will be primarly WWI era vsl replacing the stock SHIII vsls. The Likes are USS Texas and of course Barham stays. The coastals will also remain . There are new tankers and passenger vsls out there already provided by some great modeling tallent far better than mine.
The Uniforms are out there too in the IGM mod.
I am altering stock SHIII as much as possible to be WWI but some things are just hard coded and still to work around. ,
My goal is to build the core system and subs, and warships, and allow you to chose which merchies ships you wish to include, be it mine or others,
Soon, In a week i hope, I will include more photos, of the Texas, and q-ships, and UCIII submarine. On the UCIII I am trying to develope where she can fire torps or drop mines.
The q-ships will get your interest. They look just like the others until you cross its set range line. (varies with boat to boat) They are packed with lumber so are very hard to sink, Then the guns come out and play with you,, test your reactions. dive or fight. So a warning,, a close approach on a loner merchie to finish it off with a deck gun,, not always a easy option.
Aircraft will be replaced too, I have the models all built or loaned to me,, now to texture and export them to the existing slots and rework their abilities. Aircraft in WWI were only a minr threat throughout the war. But,, they should still be there. One of the fun things you will see flying about is L-13 a early Zeppelin out scouting.
You can start as Germany or A-H Navy.
So,, just my thoughts, and the direction I hope to take her in,
Areas of trouble and need to be overcome,, Change the dates, Make the subs not crash the program when in the VII or iX 's slot. Deck 88's and 105's on type II slot,
Be able to carry two deck guns on the bigger subs. two 105s or 88's

I recommend adjusting the aspect ratio for some of the portraits so that they don't look squished.

Sea Tiger please take all the time you need to complete the interesting WWI Sub mod addon for SH3, keep in mind your never alone in the dark as their are many great mod makers are here to help you grow your dream goal.
You may know the GWX mod makers took all the time they need to complete the GWX v2.1 when this came out, so why rush in a week until you are happy with your mod and yourself very important is never get yourself stress out.
Just enjoy yourself creating a work of art until it completed just like Tomi when he modding the current u-boat, enjoy yourself and never rush.
Kind in mind all the great mod makers can help you do mod testing before this become a final release.
This WWI mod doesn't bother me if this takes 3 to 6 months to complete, I am 100% sure everybody will agree with me all the way just have fun and enjoy.

I'm so glad that someone has taken it upon themselves to start this project. As most others that have posted, I too am very excited about this. I think that a WWI subsim done right would be a great game.
The only WWI subsim available right now (to my knowledge) is "1914: Shells of Fury." And it seems to have its share of issues including, but not limited to: Poor graphics, performance issues, no random campaign (ugh, makes me shudder :nope:), etc...
USS Sea Tiger, visit the WWI section at uboat.net (http://www.uboat.net/wwi/). They have a whole bunch of neat info there that you might find useful.

Hi,
I'm not a modder but I would like to help with ,,theory parts" about Austro-Hungarian campaign. I red some books dedicated to this topic and some of the infos may be useful.
Hope KuK navy will have some other U-boats than UBs... Holland's U-5, 6 and Germania's U-3, 4... please:)
BTW did you knew that 33% of all the AH sub sailors were Czechs? Quite a lot for a inland nation, isn't it?

Hi
no new pics today but hope for some soon.
As for the AH Submarines I am looking for plans for them. still nothing solid but the holland boat and the UBI's I am wanting the plans for the french sub captured and sailed by Von Trapp very much.
Thanks to a Major breakthrough supplied by Mikhayl and Anvart there will be the Iron duke, the Dreadnought, some older cruisers and also include some very nice clippers and coastal sailors and paddelers. I am hotly busy making conversions even as we speak.
Stumbling blocks still to be overcome, when models are imported vis s3d to the vii or IX classes they will not appear unless I delete teh deck gun node.
Working on making Mines appear and explode when in contact vsls.
the year is seemingly hard coded, cant change that so it seems. I can make the year 1914 but the war is still years in the future to start.

Excellent news about the period ships. After all, the likes of "Rodney" and "King George V" would have looked badly out of place in 1914.
BTW, I will post info on WWI U-Boat ace tonnages tomorrow, if you haven't already obtained it from another source.
For AH commanders, submarines pictures, plans and details, look here:

the year is seemingly hard coded, cant change that so it seems. I can make the year 1914 but the war is still years in the future to start
That's sad. I would suggest then to edit the menus in a way that the year is not visible, only day and month. For the starting year/Flotilla screen you could try to change the labelling, that one would probably work. Also, have you tried if further years are possible? If you could have a campaign go from 1944 to 1948 you could then use only the ifnal number or even put a graphic overlay where the numbers appear hidding it and turning it into "191..." showing only the last number.

http://www.dreadnoughtproject.org/heinrich/main.htm
What were the characteristics of WW1 torpedoes? Speed and range, and did they have variable gyro angles or did they only fire straight ahead? They were able of angle shots except the very early types which were hardly used on u-boats.
The latest G/7 could make up to 37 kn and reached 4000 m at this speed. Speed could be also set to 27 kn and reached then 9000 m. All types had a good visible bubble trail. Calibre was 50 cm. Old types were of 45 cm calibre.
I am glad someone is finally making a WWI mod for SH. What's the status of it ? :hmm:

I live about 1 mile from Neal. Both of us live 15 miles south of downtown Houston Texas. Hurricane Ike came through and shut us down for a while.
I just today have electric back again. Some minor damage, but nothing I could not repair.
I have yet to get by Neal's area but They too suffered some storm damage. Some minor, Some worse.
I still have about 4 days of repairs and such to do (dealing with insurance persons) then Ill be right back at it again.

Hello all, and USS Sea Tiger,
how i would love to have a real WWI U-boat/submarine sim ! I must say those screens look great, and such a sim with the playability of SH III ... :yep:
If you need translations, photos or any info about those boats just ask - i'm a complete idiot in modding and such, but if you need information about flotillas, which boat sunk when and why etc. just ask, and i will try to get the information.
Please do not let this project die !! Shells of Fury is, well, "nice", but it is lacking sooo much ... but o have a WWI sim in SH III style would be

Hi all.
Sorry for the lapse,, Job took me away for a few months. I am back and starting again. While gone I completed the U-87 model, Now I will start skinning U-Duetchland so kindly offered to be by Deamon. That will bring in a whole new phase or way to try to live through the war.
First up though I must kill the bug that is so damning this project. Why I cannot get the deck gun to work without CTD. If I leave in the attachment point for the deck gun, it CTD's every time and I am not smart enough yet to know why. To me this is a most important feature as the gun was used far more then the torpedo in WWI.
Wish me luck. And sorry for being gone, it came up and I had 3 hours to pack and go.

i'm almost sure you already saw this, but ...

there are some interior shots which would add to the atmosphere - too bad there is no real "torpedo" or "engine" compartment to "walk through" in SH III ;)
Additionally the german Bundesarchiv (State/Federal Archive ?) released a lot of photos that can be found here, some show actual photos from WW1 U-boats, if only a few.

Great idea, and good, work, but...
I hate to be the fun sucker, but using the models from Shells of Fury is technically illegal (I won't tell if you don't;)) because the models are under copyright. BUT if one was to make considerable change to the models (I.E. re-texture and tweak) then models, and give credit to the developer of Shells of Fury, I think you could get away with it.
Very Cool, Keep up the Good Work!!!!!

I can understand everyone's impatience in having a release of a truly good WWI U-boat warfare mod. Funny how the first modern use of submarines in combat has been so neglected by game developers. Aside from 1914: Shells of Fury, I can't think of any recent games that cover this historic and quite dramatic period for submarines.
However, you need to understand that this is essentially a one-man project done on a scale similar in scope to GWX. It took a team of several modders and years to develop GWX and polish it to the level it has achieved.
Perhaps if some 3D modelers, texture artists, sound editors, and SH3 file mechanics got together to help, we might all enjoy a great mod for the "Great War" a lot sooner. :hmmm:
Hello,
To answer a few questions. The following U-boats are completed,
UB-1 UC-II U-87, U-35 (my favorite)
The following U-boat is in the works thanks to Deamon.
U-Deutchland, both as a Merchant and as a raider.
several DD's TB are complete as is the ARGUS. The aircraft models are completed, not in the game yet . other ships are in the building process.
We are facing two major issues that have impeded this attempt since day one.
the M1 Marker, if not deleted when setting up the model parts will cause CTD 90 percent of the time.
On some high poly models, (in the range of 20000 or higher) can cause a ctd.
I am thinking that on importing, the model is showing correctly, yet is somehow flipped 180 across X, causing confusion on the video card,
we have flipped it all differing ways, and encounter this issue. Still exploring this but this is a great reason for slow progress.
So in short, we have the models, we have the data. we even have working traps that you will discover when completed.
What we do not have is a solution as to why M1 must be deleted to have the model show,
And
the importing problems on the target ships .
wish I had better news. but that is where we are stalled at.
programs used are Gmax for main model building, 3dmax too, exported using Karpos 3d converter to from an .IM mesh to .OBJ mesh
USS Sea Tiger asked me to post this as he has lost his password and cannot recall what email he used to sign in under to get a new password.

I am working on a naval project for another game that takes place during the same time period, so I have a few models of heavy units that could be useful. Let me know if Seatiger's interested.

I would accept any help possible to be honest.
A constant issue that is grinding it all to a halt is the deck gun issue.
On the U35 and others, I import the model, but the program, will then ctd when loaded or on rare occasion, run one battle but the ctd
I have tried hundreds of solutions, not working.
U-hai Graciously offered help on this, he is having the same results.
I have not hoisted a white flag yet on the project, however .......

Have you tried simply classifying the large calibre guns (88mm, 105mm) as AA guns? Of course that will break the automatic merchant targeting but that's much better than nothing at all, and I bet most people won't mind. Plus, some WWI U-Boats actually had deck guns with an anti-aircraft capability. Sorry if this has already been asked.

IMO, SHIII and even SH4 is better suited as a WWI sim.
WWII was a wolf pack war, for the most part or important part.
WWI was a single sub force much like SH series sims so would actually be a better fit.
I have always hoped the devs would see this and give it a go but alas.
It would be a nice mod that i would jump at playing if it was along the quality of GWX3

Im putting all my thumbs (the 4397 or so of them) up for this to succeed. A working Great War subsim would be the best thing ever
May the gods of modding be with you, gentlemen!

"Wolves of the Kaiser" is actually a separate mod, but there has been some cooperation between us. Thanks for posting the link.
