Hi everyone

Iīm new to this forum and was refered by tuddley3 (javascript:void(0)) from the Ubi-forums to ask my questions here.

I have a clean installation of SH3 and a installed GWX 2.1 in the apropriate way.

The runs perfect and looks great until I load a save-game on patrol it is very likely that the game crashes once the save-game is loaded. I come to the point were I read "not so long ago" and I even can see the instruments(still faded) and the coursor. Then, everything crashes to desktop.

It doesnīt happen all the time but Iīd say 9 out of 10 times I canīt reload the game.

If I wait some days it might even be possible to load a games I couldnīt load before.

I didnīt change my installation in the meantime.

Thatīs very odd to me.

Can anyone help?

P.S. here my system:
Athlon 64 4000+
X800 pro
1 gig ram
win XP

Welcome!

I have just recently experienced the same thing. Never had a problem before, haven't done any recent changes or anything (using 2.1 and a few of the most popular mods for the last couple of months now)

I searched around and a couple of solutions people have had is:

1) don't overwrite other saved games. (ie. if you saved during a patrol to file name "saved1" and then save during your next patrol to the same file name "saved1", and then overwrite it) They suggest always creating a new file name for each save.

2) Exit out of windows completely and then log back in. (although that hasn't seemed to work for me yet)

I am sure someone with more experience than me will get back to you with some more suggestions. :yep:

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

Since I've never had that problem I don't know what to tell you that will help. But, as planecrazydale said, someone will be along soon who does, and will get you sorted out. We have lots of folks here, and between them all they've experienced every problem you can imagine, and fixed most of them.

Welcome.:sunny:

Are you saving games near land or objects (ships & aircraft)? This is something else that SH III doesn't seem to like, along with using the crew configuration screen, saving while submerged, etc.

I had problems with this as well, but I've learned to follow these steps and the issue is solved:

1. Leave the boat on the surface and stay in the control room screen facing the helms station, as when you start. Use "save and exit" and create a new filename for each save.

2. Make sure there are no visible contacts, and move the time at least 30 minutes if you just sank a ship or downed a plane. Do not save near land.

3. Do not add or remove any mods or change any files in SH3 after the save. That includes SH3 Commander files if in use, uncheck auto roll back.

It would be of great benefit if you both could list exactly what additional third party mods you have installed...at least one of you have made reference to them. :hmm:

We will get you sorted, be assured of that, but a comprehensive list of what you are using would help.

In my opinion thats the most critical point. I got several nervous breakdowns :stare: before i found out that this is my most common reason for ctding after reloading a saved game. The animation of the sinking ship popped up long after the ship was gone loading it and bombed out as soon as the ship went under water. Closing the small win didnt changed the behavior so i guess it doesnt matter if external view is enabled or not. Mostly it happened when a C2 cargo was the last victim.

Not saving by land, nor when any contacts are present, seems to reduce the risk a lot. I also try to save now while on surface only and in good weather (for some weird reason that seems to help).

This was very frustrating for me too. When I switched up to GWX 2.1 it seemed like every other save game was crashing on me. It got so frustrating that now, if I have a good patrol going, I just pause the game and ALT-TAB out (leaving the game running in the background) and save only when I hit port.

That's the only 100% safe way to exit a patrol.

Yes, I have indeed.

And the message in detaol looks like this:

Hi,

I did save just after sinking a cargo ship. :nope: So, that's most likely my problem. And I don't actually get any error screens or popups...I see the words "not that long ago", then it starts to show the command room, then kicks me to my desktop.

I can log right back in, and load a naval acadamy mission, or single mission and it loads up and plays fine. I can then try loading up my career again, and I get the same thing again: words, quick pic of the command room, kicked back to desktop.

I guess I will just delete the career, and start over. (and make sure to always save with different file names, and always after 30 mins away from last contact)

Thanks all!

Dale

Well I think we do have a bug. I'm really p..... off because I've lost my whole career. My game does not load anymore :damn: :damn: even if I start from "in base" point. Earlier I had similar problems as you all described. (There's a certain solution but works only for a short period of time - delete all cfg. files from SH3 career folder and than restore all settings in menu after loading the game. The "huk" is you may loose some data f.e. captain's rank etc.) :shifty:
