DESCRIPTION
This mod adds animated fans to the interiors of all US submarines. Note that some control rooms have 2/3 fans, and some conning towers have up to 2. I therefor made a selection and didn't animate all of them, to avoid too much CPU load and also because I liked to keep some fans static (turned off).

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Extract to MODS folder.
2. Install with JSGME. With the TMO version, install after TMO.
3. Run game.
COMPATIBILITY
The title of this mod tells you which game version/other mods (if any) it is compatible with. Since I modified the interior files of all US submarines and also the SH.SDL file, conflicts may and will occur when other interior mods are installed on top. This may result in the animations being disabled again. In essense you should not install any mod that also modifies the interiors over this mod as this will disable the animations. Also, sound mods that modify the SH.SDL may cause CTD's if the fan sound entry is removed or vice versa.
Do not install an incorrect version of this mod either on other interior mods. This may lead to yet more CTD's. If in doubt, drop me a line.
If you play the stock SH4 v1.5/UBM game, get that version. If you play with TMO, use the TMO version. An RFB release will not be provided as it will be included in a future RFB patch directly.

Version 1.1 - 29-09-2008:
Some fans had an incorrect material assignment. This didn't cause any
critical problems, but the affected fans weren't accurately rendered.
TMO-version: The Gato CR fan was assigned a material that did not exist.
TMO-version: The map on the table in the Salmon CR had incorrect UV-data, causing incorrect rendering of the map. (note: this was the original object from which the static fan was removed)SPECIAL THANKS

It won't be compatible with any of the major mods as of yet (TM/RFB, sound mods, etc). I'll do my best but it would be great if some other modders can help out. I prefer working on S3D again now... :hmm:
Making it compatible would involve doing some exports/imports of chunks, and modifying the SDL file if necessary so if anyone wants to try, let me know.
what do you mean for fleet boats? cruisers? CT, CR ? carrier? player sub???

Is it possible to release this mod for v.1.4?
Currently I don't have access to a clean 1.4 install available. I may do it, but only after I made it compatible to some of the supermods.

Yes, that's the only downside which also means the mod may be less interesting for people that go for realism. I am interested to hear from players if they find the extra environmental sounds of the fans too distracting as well. I tried to keep it as subtle as possible.

To tell the truth ....the fans didn't do anything for me...but that Bikini Contest at the Buffalo Chip that followed after..well if you can mod that into my boat.... :()1:

i would like to help, but i have a question regarding importing 3d models into the game .dat within the silent editor.
the problem is that the model doesn't stay on it's node,
when importing it seems ok, but after saving and reloading the model is back in the root list.
i have the ID of the model correctly listed in the
"linked 3d model" window.

Verify that the index of the model is lower than the index of the node that references it (use the move chunk up/down buttons in the toolbar). That should fix it...

The RFB team will include it themselfs, so no worries about that.
If you want to try TMO out, be my guest. I'm sure people will be thankful.
All fans can be found by searching for the string 'FanBlades'. This will bring you to a child node. You will have to move that chunk together with all the children and it's direct parents (and their children as well) to the TMO interiors.
See the shot below as an example. All chunks from 594 to 609 must be copied and it replaces the 3 chunks (model + node + label) in the TMO interior counterpart file. In principle, nothing else needs to be done. Repeat for every fanblade.
Forget about the red text in the screenshot, this comment was directed to one of the RFB crew for another issue.
If you have problems, let me know. And if you release it, let me know too. I will then add it to the 1st post.

Oh, and don't forget to copy the SoundSource controller chunks from the DSD files too.
In the SDL file, the bottom most entry must be copied as well...

I finally got around to trying this mod..vanilla 1.5 version.
Only one fan..the one in the rear is working. I installed via JSGME..so why isn't the fan, the one on the overhead near the map table, not running?...:shifty:

Not possible afaik. Read, one of the devs commented on page one of this thread how they wanted to include this in the game, but couldn't due to timeconstraints.

The downloads have been replaced by version 1.1, which fixes some minor issues. Up to you to decide if you download the new pack. See first post for more details.

Sure it's possible, but I'm not going to. As posted earlier, since fans can't be turned off I decided to animate only some of them. Also, there's the trade off of performance (each animation takes up some cpu/gpu time) versus looks. So, I'm done with the mod...
But I'm not stopping anyone else willing to do so.

Nice idea, I don't like animated fans very much, but I have no choice, this is part of newest TMO patch.

It looks, that I have some stuttering with animated fans :cry:
Very unstable framerate, from +- 25 to +- 70 fps.
But.......mayby some environment mod added to TMO is reason, not sure.
It is possible to disable this fans? Animation is embedded in latest TMO patch,
too many files affected, I don't know how to remove animated fans without problems
with rest of Trigger_Maru.

The animations are not so heavy weight that they would cause a drop of 50 FPS. In fact, it should be barely noticable, so I suspect something else is the cause (but I can't know for sure).
I am not responsible for embedding the animations in the TMO interiors, this was Ducimus' choice. You can use S3D to replace the new fan stuff with stock yourself (if you search for the label 'FanBlades', you will find the relevant chunks). If you look a bit back into this thread you will find some more details on what needs to be done to include the mod in other mods. You just have to reverse the process.
I am not going to publish patches for other mods to remove the animations myself.

I forgot to say, it is not so hard to remove the animation, Just open the modded interior files and then remove all child controllers and properties of all the fanblade nodes. Animations are then disabled...

Wow this is a really great mod, i like it alot, i hear you mentioned something about keeping the fans off? So would there be a swich to turn them on or will they be on all the time?

I am working on a new release that will tie the fans to Silent Running mode (which you can control yourself obviously), and whether or not the enemy has detected you (see a couple of posts back). Meaning, if you need to be silent, the fans will be off ;)
