Hello,

Not sure if this is the forum to post it. (EDIT: Now I'm pretty sure it should go in the other SH3 forum, mods, please could move it? I'm sorry).

After long time away of Silent Hunter 3/4, now I wanted to come back to SH3+GWX. So, following the instructions on the GWX topic, and download page, I installed (for the first time, I had not it yet installed) SH3, the patch 1.4b EMEA DVD (I have the DVD copy), and the GWX2.0, and then GWX 2.1, when launch the game it asked me to reboot, then it asked the serial, and finally it ran, and it ran awell, very well.

Later I wanted to change the intro logo for the original one (Ubisoft logo), and find that I had lost it when GWX have installed itself over the SH3 installation.
So I have uninstalled 'GWX shorcuts', through its Start menu link, and then uninstalled SH3 from the official uninstall SH3 link. Rebooted, and reinstalled all SH3+1.4b patch.

Now when I run the program (it doesn't ask me no more for the serial neither to restart the pc), it runs in a fake full screen mode!, I mean, it is full screen but the WinXP start menu bar is there and I can even use it without quitting SH3. I can go to options in SH3, video settings and I see that full screen, synchronize and event camera are disabled, as well as the music too.
No matter how I try to activate them, it let me to enable them it says that they will be activated after restart of the program, but it is not true, when I restart SH3 all is exactly the same; no true full screen, no music, etc

Moreover, if I try to run the game, I get a black screen, except for the hud (menus, etc)

I have tried to install it quite a lot of times, and uninstalling it from the DVD, from Control panel, from start menu link, etc, also to restart just after installing it but I get always the same. My only guess is that maybe GWX has left something there that produces this.

Please, I don't want to format my hard disk and reinstall ALL another time, could you help me?

Thank you very much,

Darkbluesky

Update,

I have erased a blank file named SH3 in My Documents, and reinstalled, now I got true fullscreen, but I have lost the menu, after the loading screen I get the mouse pointer and a black screen, the menu is there but I can't see it (I can hear the music, and if I press 'Esc' I got the options (text only) 'Yes' and 'No' when I over with the mouse). Moreover, the mouse pointer leaves trail (?).

Tried to install DX too, but no success.

Any ideas? I don't know what to try more...

Thanks a lot!

Put your disc in and perform the 'uninstall' operation.

Delete the SH3 folder in C/MyDocs

Thank you very much for your answer, I have uninstalled it with the disc, as you say, and the SH3 folder in MyDocs is gone too automatically, although appears then a SH3 doc without extension in MyDocs, I delete it anyway, and I finish just with the problem I explain in my last post...(!?!)

I have used now CCleaner and cleaned the registry, but no success neither...Maybe it is due to that, the first time I uninstalled it, I did it from the start menu instead of the dvd? Anyway, which could be the solution now? questions, questions...

The disappearing menu is usually because of a certain codec pack, cant remember which one it was that made it happen to me but it was either K-lite Codec Pack or FFDSHOW. :hmm:

THANKS A LOT! That solved my problem. I had installed the XP Codec Pack 2.3.7, I have uninstalled it, and the menu is back.

So, the first problem was the dumb file SH3. (without extension) in My Documents, and the second problem was the codec.

Now solved. Thank you very much to all.

Yeah, same problems with k-lite here. Thanks for the hint.
